Background
Tashigi served as Smoker's adjutant in Loguetown and was known as a knowledgeable appraiser of famous swords. Her fixation on renowned blades made her vulnerable when Kael used the Fifty Grade Blade Frost as bait; she identified it from a notebook of blade records she had copied from the Marine library, then was drugged and abducted. 9
Kael used her as a hostage to escape Smoker, then convinced her that the kidnapping had been a test of Loguetown's Marine defenses. After revealing his claimed intelligence-agent identity, he had Fleet Admiral Sengoku order her to assist his undercover operation within the Dusk Pirates. Tashigi accepted while under Kael's implied threat over the secrecy of his identity. 10 13 14
After joining the crew, she was made compatible with and loaded with the Rukia Kuchiki character template. She gained spiritual energy, Soul Reaper knowledge, and an A-rank Zanpakutō, then devoted herself to the Tiga's Training Room and rapidly surpassed her former limits. 15 16 18
Her experiences against corrupt Marine officers changed her view of Marine justice. She helped defeat Colonel Morgan's forces at G-153, later led the assault on Marine 16th Branch, captured Colonel Nezumi, and discovered evidence of his corruption. By then, she had chosen to follow Kael in order to see more civilians freed from oppression. 27 28 48 49
Appearance
Tashigi is a short-haired young woman with square-framed glasses, clear eyes, and a slightly baby-faced appearance. She initially wore a plain plaid shirt and tight jeans, but later adopted a black Soul Reaper uniform and began growing out her hair. 9 27
- Short dark hair, later grown longer. 9 27
- Square-framed glasses, which she frequently adjusts. 9 27
- Initially carried Shigure at her waist. 9
- Later wears a black short-skirted Soul Reaper uniform with white stockings. 27
- Keeps her Zanpakutō at her side and favors it over Shigure. 16 18
Personality
Tashigi is gentle, earnest, and deeply committed to justice, but she initially lacks caution and worldly experience. Her excitement over famous swords overrides her suspicion of Kael despite sensing that something was wrong, directly leading to her abduction. 9
She is highly diligent once given an opportunity to grow. Tashigi eagerly studies the Haki and Six Powers journal, trains to the daily limit, and becomes increasingly enthusiastic as she discovers the scale of her new Soul Reaper abilities. 17 18 23
Though naturally kind, she is ruthless toward pirates and especially hostile toward Marines who exploit their authority. She killed and severely wounded members of the Alvida Pirates, yet spared Nezumi after capturing him. Her loyalty to Kael is strengthened by the Partner System, though she still retains moral limits and would not readily harm innocents or Smoker. 16 23 49
