| Mastered time stop | 29 | By his battle with Jotaro, The World could stop time on a global scale; Jotaro's shorter active time gave Dio a two-second advantage when escaping. 29 30 |
Background / History
A century before the Cairo confrontation, Dio met Jonathan Joestar, whom he regarded as his destined arch-nemesis. He destroyed Jonathan's body but took its flesh for himself, gaining the Joestar bloodline and its connection to Jonathan's descendants. 28
Before acquiring The World, Dio possessed a Stand comparable to Joseph Joestar's Hermit Purple. He used its information-gathering capability to locate and recruit powerful Stand users; as he gained control over Jonathan's body, The World emerged and consumed Hermit Purple's energy. 29
Dio cultivated a close friendship with Enrico Pucci and discussed his concept of “Heaven” with him. Anticipating his own death, he entrusted Pucci with a bone from his body and left behind a notebook connected to his plans. 31
Personality
Dio is driven by an obsessive hatred of the Joestar family, viewing their bloodline as an obstacle that must be exterminated. He treats his conflict with them as personal and inevitable rather than merely strategic. 28
He possesses immense confidence in his own superiority, interpreting The World's time stop as evidence that he alone could dominate the entire world. Jotaro's ability to move in stopped time deeply unsettles him because it overturns that belief. 29
Dio is also ruthless and pragmatic. When gravely injured, he immediately absorbs Vanilla Ice's blood—given through Vanilla's self-sacrifice—to restore himself. 30
