Background

Lin Heier practiced the Yellow Lotus Holy Mother Scripture and had visualized the Unborn Mother for more than a decade. When she later witnessed the entity controlling the paper people, she immediately recognized it as the Unborn Mother. 21

Despite her title and scripture, Lin rejects the Unborn Mother as an “evil Buddha.” She instead professes faith in a compassionate Buddhist Mother who saves the people, and regards the paperification crisis as a potential catastrophe for all of China. 23

By the time of her encounter with Wu Pifu's group, Lin had been renowned across northern martial circles for five or six years. She had met more than a dozen Hidden Force masters, but only three Transforming Force grandmasters. 20 She later states that she is twenty-nine years old. 44

After Wu Pifu's departure from the original Peace Hotel incident, Lin and Xu Rongyu remain in the Peace Hotel Dream World. She is subsequently brought under the Unborn Mother's control through Yellow Lotus Fragments and appears among the controlled people surrounding Peace Hotel. 65 68

Her compassion is tempered by resolve. Lin initially falters when forced to burn a paper figure that speaks in her sister Ju'er's voice, but regains herself after recognizing the entity's deception. 22 The loss of her sisters strengthens her commitment to destroying the Unborn Mother's influence rather than abandoning the crisis. 23

She is fiercely protective of her followers and offended by the suggestion that she would act solely for money; she accepts compensation only after Wu Pifu explains that it is meant to support the people working under her. 44

Under the Unborn Mother's control, Lin is compelled to oppose Wu Pifu. She appears grief-stricken when confronting him, but the apparent return of animation and normality in her expression is only an illusion created by the controlling force. 69

Lin arrives at Yijia Funeral Manor with the Red Lantern Society to recover Xu Rongyu. She duels Yamadai with the Red Soft Spear before Wu Pifu interrupts their confrontation and reveals that her sisters are becoming paper people. 19 20

After escaping partial paperification, Lin recognizes the Unborn Mother and joins Wu Pifu's group against the paper people. She offers him the Yellow Lotus Holy Mother Art in return for attempting to destroy the circular opening through which the Unborn Mother's threads descend. 21 23

Battle Against the Half-Paper Man

Lin helps defend the funeral manor with torches, drives off tiger's ghosts, and uses the Red Soft Spear to reinforce the fireline with Hidden Force. 26 She is severely injured and frozen by the half-paper Xu Zhenshan's supernatural strike, but Wu Pifu intervenes with Lotus-Seated Force before the creature can kill her. 26 27

After Wu Pifu's breakthrough, Lin protects him while he practices and later witnesses the phenomenon she identifies as the legendary “Lightning in an Empty Room.” 29

Peace Hotel

Following the battle, Lin accepts Wu Pifu's extraordinary origins and remains behind with Xu Rongyu when he returns to Gaia to treat Yamadai and Xu Shilan. 30 She keeps her word to wait for his return and helps manage the aftermath at the charity graveyard. 42

Lin later assists Wu Pifu's plan to build a higher-level Peace Hotel shelter by exchanging technologically produced gold for local currency and leveraging the support of her subordinates. 44

By the time Wu Pifu returns to the Peace Hotel Dream World, Lin has been controlled through Yellow Lotus Fragments. She stands with Xu Rongyu, Li Shuwen, Sun Lutang, and a vast crowd of controlled people surrounding Peace Hotel. 65 68

Although she retains her former appearance, Lin speaks on behalf of the Unborn Mother and confronts Wu Pifu as one of seven selected martial artists.
