Background / History

Yamadai was born amid the Third World War, a conflict that lasted 120 years. Raised on the battlefield, he did not know his parents; the soldiers in his unit were his family. He received no formal education and learned of prewar civilization only through fragments passed down by others. 11

He joined Azure, a salvation organization that emerged during humanity's most desperate period and possessed prewar technology and a plan to save Earth. Despite being a battlefield veteran, he was an ordinary soldier at the bottom of the organization. 11

During a battle against a gigantic bioweapon, Yamadai suffered injuries that emergency treatment could not permanently sustain. In recognition of his service, Azure placed him in cryogenic hibernation, making him a “Future Person.” He later awakened as maintenance personnel on Gaia. 11

After awakening from hibernation, Yamadai questions Wu Pifu to understand Gaia, the Dream World, and the nightmares threatening maintenance personnel. His Level 2 body makes him a valuable ally, but he lacks a cultivation art. 11 12

Xuanhua Prefecture and the Funeral Manor

Yamadai accompanies Wu Pifu and Xu Shilan into the Dream World. He helps defeat an ambush in Xuanhua Prefecture, proposes mercenary work as a means of earning money, and later assists in defending Yijia Funeral Manor from supernatural threats. 13 14 18 19

When Lin Heier arrives seeking Xu Rongyu, Yamadai confronts her alone. He fights her with improvised weapons, nearly forcing a mutual kill, and continues attacking despite injuries from her hidden force. 19 20

Battle Against the Paper People

Yamadai applies his technical knowledge to construct a launcher intended to send Wu Pifu toward the circular opening linked to the Unborn Mother. He continues working on the device even as the Half-Paper Man attacks the group. 23 24 26

To prevent the Half-Paper Man from destroying the launcher, Yamadai grapples it despite the creature freezing and necrotizing the parts of his body that touch it. He sets both himself and the monster on fire, then is hurled into Xu Shilan with catastrophic spinal injuries. 28

Hibernation and Recovery

With his lower body paralyzed, Yamadai chooses hibernation rather than risking an immediate rescue attempt. He urges Wu Pifu to prioritize survival and wait until he has sufficient strength or companions to help safely. 31

Wu Pifu later wakes him and brings him to a medical base, where a treatment pod completely restores his body after nearly three days of hibernation. 41

Peace Hotel and Bianliang

After recovering, Yamadai continues to support Wu Pifu’s plans, though he criticizes Wu Pifu’s decision to spend an upgrade reward on raising his maintenance-worker title. 41

He helps plan Peace Hotel’s construction and defenses, repeatedly framing the project in military terms. He later travels with Wu Pifu and Xu Shilan to Northern Song Bianliang. 44 46 48

National Preceptor and Iron-Refining Manual

After the Immortal-Mortal Oath, Yamadai, Wu Pifu, and Xu Shilan are recognized as National Preceptors by Zhao Ji and receive a lavish Bianliang residence, servants, and wealth. 55

Yamadai obtains the Iron-Refining Manual and rapidly advances it to the Accomplished stage. He identifies its potential to absorb Gaia's advanced alloys, strengthen his body beyond the method's original descriptions, and create modern equipment through metalworking abilities. 55

During the group's investigation into Grand Preceptor Guo Jing and the Golden Warriors, Yamadai provides the practical suggestion to seek information through the retired emperor Zhao Ji. 56

Man-Hunting Butcher Counterpart

In another Dream World, Wu Pifu encounters the Man-Hunting Butcher, a half-robotic bounty target who strongly resembles Yamadai. Wu Pifu concludes that the figure is a parallel-world counterpart rather than the Yamadai who had been his companion. 210 212

When the counterpart and other Man-Hunters, whose consciousnesses have been eroded by grotesque modification, plead to be killed, Wu Pifu grants their request. 232

Death and Temporal Restoration

Yamadai and Xu Shilan are killed during the battle against the Hearer Body. Although Wu Pifu survives and uses his final strength to reignite the remnants of their lives, they remain dead until he later gains access to temporal rewind. 722 725

Wu Pifu eventually uses a Level 7 Shelter temporal rewind after killing four Roots, restoring both Yamadai and Xu Shilan. Yamadai learns how far Wu Pifu has advanced in their absence and chooses to continue adventuring beside him. 725 726

Ocean Dream World and the Dog Egg

Yamadai joins Wu Pifu and Xu Shilan in entering the Ocean Dream World using clues to the Dream Compass. The trio determines that its celestial layout proves it is not Earth. 734

He helps build the original Dog Egg from island resources, locating natural substitutes for materials needed for adhesion, rope, and sails. He later helps retain and refit the vessel, refusing to abandon the ship because he and Wu Pifu built it themselves. 735 742 747

After the vessel's ownership-recognition ritual, Yamadai gains its shared attribute enhancement, increasing his already considerable strength. 749

Trade, Sanctuary Development, and Further Training

As Xu Shilan develops the Dog Egg into a trading operation, Yamadai serves as her assistant, bodyguard, and frontline defender. He protects her during the Ship's Curse and while the group confronts the fog-shrouded ruins of a fallen technological city. 748 752 755

He devotes much of the group's peaceful trading period to strengthening his body and refining metal control. 756
