Appearance
Chu Yu is described as fair-skinned and athletic, with long legs and broad shoulders; Ding Shi initially reads her as a sporty person. 47
- Usually takes a practical, active role in the team’s travel and field decisions.
- Has received ten years of Jeet Kune Do training. 47
Personality
Chu Yu leads by rules rather than personal influence. When forming the Fishy Team, she rejects contribution-based privilege: even a member who invested less retains an equal claim to shared necessities, provided they treat teammates as allies rather than competitors. 40
She is cautious but willing to act under pressure. She weighs the risks of no-signal-zone shortcuts, questions whether the team is morally prepared to rob or harm NPCs for resources, and ultimately chooses to take the route after hearing everyone’s views. 44 She also takes responsibility for the team’s mistakes, immediately paying Brother Kai’s fine rather than abandoning him. 42
Although she demands equality and rules within a survival team, Chu Yu believes broader society cannot operate through absolute equality. She favors systems that promote outstanding individuals while preserving room for less capable people to survive, and supports policies that disperse entrenched elite wealth and power across successive generations. 58 59
Chu Yu is strongly principled in her treatment of companions. Even when the rest of the Fishy Team wishes to leave the dangerous Ding Shi behind, she refuses to abandon someone she recruited, holding that she may remove a member from the team but cannot simply discard him. 51 Her resolve is tempered by empathy: she grieves intensely for Mu Mu and Brother Kai after their deaths, while continuing to make difficult decisions for the surviving team. 55 59

History
Peach Haven Village
Chu Yu completed a version of the Peach Haven Village instance with a B rating. 48 During that instance, she identified and captured a wanted criminal by noticing the criminal’s portrait in a newspaper on the minibus; this earned her a $300 reward. 41
Home
Chu Yu meets Ding Shi while organizing transportation toward Far North Province. She invites him into her group despite his comparatively small contribution, explaining that the team must cooperate against outside threats rather than compete internally. 40
As captain, she recruits and directs Wang Ritian, Wang Kai, Mu Mu, and Ding Shi. When Ding Shi proves skilled at map-reading, she assigns him as the team’s navigator; after Brother Kai is caught driving without a license, she pays the 300-yuan fine and the team obtains C1 licenses. 42 44
Chu Yu leads the group onto Nameless Road, where they investigate a stranded red sedan and the apparent child Yingying. She supports splitting the team to investigate Yingying’s claimed emergency, though Mu Mu later exposes Yingying as a disguised dwarf. 45 46
At the farmstead, Chu Yu restrains Yingying’s male-dwarf accomplice after he attacks her. 47 When Ding Shi reveals that he accepted the dangerous Rapid Delivery mission, she facilitates the group’s discussion and helps arrange the team around the members’ differing choices. 48 49
After Stupid Dagger attacks the Fishy Team at a self-service gas station, Chu Yu takes charge of the withdrawal, purchases three medical kits, and orders the team to leave before AI agents or war police arrive. 50
When Brother Kai and Mu Mu argue that Ding Shi should be left behind after the attack, Chu Yu refuses to abandon him on principle. 51 Soon afterward, she performs emergency surgery on Sun Heaven after an axe ambush leaves him unable to walk. 52
Chu Yu and Ding Shi enter Whitewater Gully Village to locate rope needed to clear the blocked road. They retrieve a seventy-meter cotton rope from an abandoned elementary school, though they are unable to recover a possible playing card from the top of its flagpole. 53 54
During Stupid Dagger’s ambush on Blackwater Gully Road, Mu Mu is fatally shot after helping Ding Shi kill Stupid Dagger. Chu Yu is devastated by Mu Mu’s death but assumes responsibility for deciding how to dispose of her body and protect the surviving members. 55
Chu Yu subsequently helps dismantle the black car, destroy the fish truck, and fight Feilang. After killing Feilang with a stone, she is overwhelmed by the experience of killing someone for the first time. 56 Ding Shi later secretly destroys Feilang’s card to increase the team’s completion rating rather than claim its bounty or safehouse reward. 56
During the final pursuit by Stupid Dagger, Chu Yu shoots down his car, but Brother Kai is killed in the process. 59 She remains with Ding Shi as he escorts the injured Sun Heaven toward North Shang County and then takes her toward Far North County. 59 60
Chu Yu and Ding Shi ultimately complete their respective objectives and part on good terms. Ding Shi later acknowledges her as the first companion in Ita World whose character and abilities he truly recognizes. 61
Post-*Home* Activities
After the instance, Chu Yu arrives at Ding Shi’s island residence and becomes his friend through the newly available friend system. 63 She receives an A-rank evaluation for the Return Home instance. 64
Ding Shi later tells her that he destroyed the Feilang Card without consulting her and offers $50 as compensation for her presumed half-share. Chu Yu criticizes his failure to communicate as captain but accepts that his decision benefited the entire team; she also learns that Mu Mu has entered a revival instance and been revived. 64
Chu Yu clears a Hard-difficulty ocean-raft survival instance after being pursued by a great white shark for a day and a night. She then invites Ding Shi to join her in a Nightmare instance and gives him the City Lord Card she obtained from a Facility Scratch Card. 85
She becomes the city lord of Kindling City, joins the Kindling Tribe, and marries its chieftain, Yu Yuan. 136 As Kindling City develops, Chu Yu and Yu Yuan reduce their dungeon participation to focus on municipal construction, production, and logistics. 161
Feudal Age in Miniature
In the Yong’an County instance, Chu Yu serves as Yu Yuan’s assistant magistrate. Together they audit accounts, receive local gentry, prepare flood-control work, manage labor and finances, and navigate the hidden importance of Princess Yong’an’s favor. 138 139
Chu Yu argues that Su Su should show tactical flexibility regarding the county examination, even though Su Su rejects any form of cheating on moral grounds. 138 She later handles a looming conflict between pottery workshops in Little Pottery Town and assists with the county’s financial and military planning. 140 147
During Princess Yong’an’s first assassination attempt, Chu Yu warns the group that archers are stationed on the roof. She is seriously wounded during the subsequent night raid but survives after receiving treatment. 141 Following the failed assassination, she is assigned to destroy crossbow-wound evidence on the decoy princess’s corpse. 143
Chu Yu works with Yu Yuan and Hong Yi on the successful Yong’an Pass defense simulation. 153
Role-Playing
For the final no-death-penalty round of the Feudal Age in Miniature instance, Chu Yu is assigned the role of Empress and director of the Office of Prudent Punishment. 154 Her authority includes administering the imperial harem, selecting the emperor’s nightly companions, protecting pregnant consorts, and exercising absolute authority over the Office of Prudent Punishment. 154
Chu Yu is overwhelmed by repeated miscarriages caused by poisoned medicinal powder and seeks Ding Shi’s help investigating its origin. 155 156 After Wang Meng’s death, Yu Yuan appoints her commander of the Imperial City Office as well, adding responsibility for the capital’s security to her existing harem duties. 158
Princess Su Su ultimately poisons Chu Yu to maximize her own reward, causing Chu Yu’s death within the role-playing round. 158 As the round carries no death penalty, this does not end Chu Yu’s continued participation in the Kindling Tribe. 154 161
