The Thunderbird's birth temporarily diluted Hoffa's obsession with breaking through the bottleneck in Transfiguration. Every day, he made time to help Joey feed Maya. For some reason, he felt a strong affinity for the newborn creature. Whenever he looked at her, it felt as though he were looking at his own child.
This bird was completely different from the ordinary magical creatures in the Forbidden Forest.
In just one week, her frantic eating had made her as large as an owl.
However, her body was far slimmer than an owl's. She had long tail feathers, silver-gray wings, pale yellow eyes, and a brown beak.
Without a doubt, she was a beautiful and elegant creature.
She could already fly, but unlike Talas, she did not have three pairs of wings. She had only one pair, like a long-tailed hawk.
Joey explained, "Thunderbirds live for a very long time. As they grow older, they gain more pairs of wings. It is a sign of their maturity and development."
Every day, Hoffa observed Maya while she ate. He stroked her smooth feathers and gently felt her slender bones.
At first, while she was still small, Hoffa could do that.
But another week later, when she had grown as large as an Australian wedge-tailed eagle, he could no longer do so.
She no longer stayed beneath Hoffa's palm to beg for food. Instead, she stood high atop the tree house, and Hoffa had to raise his hand to bring food to her beak. She was very proud, and intelligent as well. She rarely cried out, but she could clearly distinguish her own name and understand Hoffa's intentions.
Logically speaking, the bigger a bird became, the more it should eat. Yet after the Thunderbird's feathers gradually filled out, Joey reduced Maya's food.
