My Life Is Over... Huh, a Cheat Arrived!

After picking up the Spirit Ashes of Stormhawk Ancient King, Lucian entered the door on the terrace.

This door connected the terrace to the second floor of the starting room.

At the end of the second floor sat a treasure chest, emitting a cold white glow.

Lucian stepped forward and opened it. Inside was another set of Spirit Ashes: Stormhawk Tinnie.

Stormhawk Tinnie was a fierce eagle from the distant past, one of the Stormhawk clan's strongest warriors second only to the Ancient King. It had accompanied and served the Ancient King until the very end.

Lucian pondered.

He had collected all the items. Next, he had to face the terrifying Grafted Scion.

Lucian turned to leave, but suddenly heard a rustling sound.

It was like something crawling rapidly closer...

Before Lucian could react, an enormous figure came crashing down before him.

Its huge body was stitched together from countless limbs. To support its weight, it had many legs, each with more than one foot; some legs were even made of several arms twisted together. Its body, a grotesque fusion of parts from different races, was covered by a dark blue peacock-feather cloak. It resembled a massive arthropod. Of that strange body, only its head and one arm were its own. The handsome, pale face of a nobleman looked incomparably eerie atop such a hideous form.

Two right arms gripped a pair of Ritual Straight Swords, while a thick left arm held the Beast Crest Golden Greatshield before its body.

Lucian swallowed. He instinctively wanted to run, but his legs no longer obeyed him.

Why had the Grafted Scion, which should have been stationed behind Marika's statue in the distance, come looking for him?

Was it the storm just now? Or the sound of the door being smashed?

Swish! Swish!

The Grafted Scion's thrusting swords lunged at Lucian before he could think further.

Lucian instinctively raised his shield to block, but the tremendous force knocked it aside.

The sword in the second hand followed immediately, stabbing straight into his left shoulder guard.

Though the strike failed to pierce Lucian's armor, the impact numbed half his body.

Lucian drew his straight sword and slashed at the Grafted Scion, only for the Greatshield to block it firmly.

The gap in strength is too great! If this continues, I'll die!

This could not go on. The Grafted Scion was blocking the doorway, preventing him from kiting it into an open area. He definitely could not win through brute force. In that case...

Lucian backed against the second-floor railing and focused entirely on the Grafted Scion's movements. He would wait for an opportunity.

The second move was a horizontal sweep with both swords, which Lucian ducked beneath by taking advantage of their difference in size.

The third move was a shield smash, devastating enough to make the floor tremble. Fortunately, Lucian rolled away in time and avoided being crushed into pulp.

Amid the constant danger, Lucian finally got one of the moves he had been waiting for.

The Grafted Scion turned sideways and rose upright, raising both swords high and pointing them directly at Lucian. Then it suddenly charged forward, its twin swords thrusting like a torrential downpour.

But Lucian had been prepared. He rolled beneath the Grafted Scion's crotch and slipped behind it. Borrowing the momentum of its thrust, he slammed into it with an Iron Mountain Lean.

The impact sent the Grafted Scion crashing through the railing and down to the first floor.

The Chapel of Anticipation was cramped, especially for a monster of such immense size. After falling, the Grafted Scion could not get back up for the moment.

Seizing the chance, Lucian drew his halberd and stood on the second floor, repeatedly stabbing at the Grafted Scion. Black, fetid blood sprayed everywhere, while the axe blade occasionally severed small limbs.

The opening for damage was brief after all. While using its shield to protect vital parts of its body, the Grafted Scion scrambled to its feet.

As it turned over, one sword-wielding right arm emerged from behind the shield. Without time to think, Lucian swung with all his strength and actually chopped that arm off.

Seeing the Grafted Scion lose an arm, Lucian was overjoyed. At last, he could see the dawn of victory.

Yet that joy was shattered before it could last long.

Whether from rage or pain, the one-armed Grafted Scion let out a furious howl. The power contained in that roar slammed straight into Lucian's mind.

The roar made blood gush from Lucian's eyes, ears, nose, and mouth, leaving him unable to stand steadily.

Even worse, the Grafted Scion used its enormous size to claw its way directly up onto the second floor.

As he watched the Grafted Scion draw closer and closer, Lucian despaired.

Through those furious eyes, Lucian could already foresee his fate: being chopped into pieces and grafted onto the Grafted Scion's body.

Lucian backed away. He was going to jump off the cliff. That way, just like in the original story, he might still find a slim chance at survival.

But the earlier roar had battered his brain. After staggering back just two steps, he fell.

Lying on the ground, Lucian was filled with anguish and despair. He did not want to die, but he could not survive. In the end, he was simply too weak.

If he truly possessed the Tarnished's level of combat skill, he probably would not have been at a disadvantage even in a direct confrontation. Not like now, when all his schemes still could not bring victory.

The Grafted Scion came before Lucian and raised its only remaining sword high, determined to pierce straight through him.

Lucian closed his eyes in despair.

Swish!

Clang!

The pain of flesh being pierced never came. Instead, he heard a familiar sound.

Lucian opened his eyes and saw a black panel before him. It was the interface of the Wind Spirit Moon Shadow modifier!

The thrusting sword was now stopped by his body, unable to move even an inch farther.

Function 1 - Invincibility Mode (Activating automatically, 2 seconds remaining)

Lucian smiled in relief. He knew he had survived.
