Background
Chen Jue’s father died early. He was raised by his mother, He Yin, while his maternal uncle He Yuanshan and aunt Chen Yun treated him as close family; He Yuanshan regularly collected him from Riverside Martial High School in uniform, preventing him from being bullied as a fatherless student 1 2.
Although his aptitude was above average, Chen Jue wasted much of his martial-high-school period on online games and later regretted watching less-talented classmates enter martial universities ahead of him. He subsequently trained intensely during three years at martial arts college, developing his Primordial Stance Art to consummate mastery 3 4.
While serving as a newly appointed Patrol Inspector, Chen Jue was shot by a Rat Gang member. The bulletproof lining supplied by He Yuanshan saved his life. While recovering, he awakened the Diligence Rewards Log, an innate talent that transformed effort, medication, and cultivation practice into multiplied returns 1 2.
Appearance
Chen Jue is a tall, upright young man with refined features, star-bright eyes, and a notably handsome appearance. He commonly wears the black uniform of the Patrol Inspectorate with a saber at his waist 6.
- Tall and straight-backed, with an athletic martial artist’s build.
- Fair-skinned; intense excess blood qi has at times left speckled blood marks across his body 8.
- Frequently carries a long saber or horse-chopping saber.
- Later bears pale silver saber spirit patterns along his right arm, including traits associated with chopping, upward slashing, thrusting, and cleaving 39 40.
- Has accumulated visible battle scars, which he openly displayed upon returning to the Guard Station 41.
Personality
Chen Jue is fiercely diligent, ambitious, and deeply conscious of how easily weakness can be exploited in the outer city. After nearly dying from a gunshot wound, he commits himself to cultivation with obsessive consistency, treating time, money, medicine, and combat experience as resources to be converted into strength 2 3 30.
He is protective of his family, especially He Tang, He Yin, Chen Yun, and He Yuanshan. This instinct drives him to confront Room Fire Cult abductors, eliminate Rat Gang threats, and prioritize gaining enough strength to move his family somewhere safer 10 19 36.
Chen Jue is also hot-tempered and vindictive. He refuses to accept extortion or humiliation from Zhang Wei’s faction, retaliates through recorded evidence and superior force, and holds grudges against those who threaten him or his relatives 7 14 41. Despite his ruthlessness, he does not seek indiscriminate killing; he expresses reluctance to slaughter innocents even when forced into lethal black-market conflicts 26.
Abilities & Skills
Diligence Rewards Log
Chen Jue’s innate talent awakened when he was near death from the Rat Gang shooting. It records his daily effort and returns additional “perfect experience,” allowing his cultivation gains to exceed what his actual practice alone would provide 2 5.
- Multiplies gains from training, meditation, medicine, recovery, and martial-technique practice.
- Can provide up to three measures of reward: Chen Jue’s own effort, the Log’s reward, and external spiritual energy 2.
- Treats practice as if it were performed in his best condition, such as converting nine intermittent hours of stance work into eighteen hours of perfect practice 5.
- Grants combat insight and can facilitate the fusion of martial techniques after sufficient practice 19 30.
- Is Chen Jue’s greatest secret; he deliberately attributes his abnormal advancement to talent and comprehension instead 2.
Five-Element True Qi Cultivation
Chen Jue originally chose the Little Five-Element Art, a demanding method requiring simultaneous cultivation of fire, metal, wood, earth, and water qi. Its fivefold true qi produces exceptional raw power but consumes immense time and resources 9.
- Possesses above-average five-element aptitude with flourishing fire 9.
- Cultivated all five elemental qi in parallel, causing his total reserves to greatly exceed ordinary martial artists of the same realm 9 37.
- Publicly feigned crippled meridians and changed his official record to the dual-attribute Burning Wood Technique to escape the Zong family’s scheme 38 40.
- Began cultivating the Five-Element Body-Tempering Concordance after exceeding 1,000 strands of true qi, intending to temper his physique and expand his meridians 40.
Lesser Pure Yang Physique and Blood Qi
Chen Jue has unusually abundant qi and blood, later identified as a Lesser Pure Yang Physique. His physical strength consistently exceeds the expectations of his cultivation realm 18 22.
- Reached a qi-and-blood value of 117.5% shortly after entering the True Qi Realm, giving him strength comparable to a third-layer True Qi martial artist 12.
- Reached 161% blood vitality, with an estimated combat ceiling around the fifth True Qi layer—or sixth against martial artists using three-element true qi 29.
- Reached 199.99% qi-and-blood value but encountered a bottleneck preventing advancement into a true Pure Yang Body 40.
- Can sense weaknesses in opponents through his unusually potent vital blood 25.
Setting Sun Blood Reversal
A self-created blood-burning secret art developed while Chen Jue recovered from severe injuries. It ignites qi and blood through his Dantian Furnace for temporary bursts of power 20.
- Officially recognized by the Diligence Rewards Log after Chen Jue learned to consume 0.1% blood qi in a single activation 20.
- Can be stacked to increase his physical power; one full-force activation raised his strength boost to 15% 35.
- Consumes qi and blood, making sustained use dangerous for ordinary martial artists 19 35.
- Chen Jue’s exceptional physique allows him to recover from this expenditure far more effectively than most cultivators 18 20.
Six Directions Saber Art
Chen Jue’s principal combat art. Though initially incomplete, the Diligence Rewards Log allowed him to comprehend its missing principles, including the Inner and Outer Six Harmonies 3 5.
- Reached minor mastery after gaining insight into the Inner and Outer Six Harmonies 5.
- Developed Six Harmonies as One, allowing each slash to deliver the technique’s maximum force 8.
- Gained extensive real-combat insight during the Rat Gang battle and simulated combat experiences 17 19.
- Reached mastery by Chapter 37 and later perfection, allowing him to integrate heart, intent, and qi into a personal saber true intent 37 50.
- Named his true intent “The Eight Wastelands and Six Directions—let ‘I’ reign supreme,” allowing the saber art to become increasingly mind-driven 50.
Saber Spirit Patterns
By perfecting basic saber arts, Chen Jue manifests pale silver spirit patterns that draw upon ambient spiritual energy to reinforce specific blade actions 39 40.
- His first spirit pattern emerged from the perfected Wind-Splitting Saber Art and increased cleaving power by 30% 39.
- Developed distinct patterns for chop, upward slash, thrust, and cleave 40.
- Identical saber traits do not generate duplicate spirit patterns 40.
Movement Arts and Technique Fusion
Chen Jue obtained and trained the mid-grade movement techniques Silent Step and Wandering Dragon Body Technique after being cornered during the Rat Gang incident 24 28.
- Uses Silent Step and Wandering Dragon Body Technique to improve stealth, mobility, and escape options 28.
- Reached minor mastery in Wandering Dragon Body Technique by Chapter 37 37.
- Discovered that perfected techniques can be fused into higher-grade arts through Diligence Reward fusion experience 30.
- Successfully used the Wind-Splitting Saber Art as a test case to accelerate his Six Directions Saber Art’s development 37.
Alchemy
Chen Jue learned Basic Alchemy and refined Spirit Sprout Pills despite Jiao Fengchun’s initial skepticism 32 39.
- Uses modern equipment and a modified thermostatic chamber to cultivate spirit grain sprouts 33.
- Successfully created forty flawed experimental pills, which he named Yellow-Sprout Pills 39.
- Later refined transparent, near-flawless Spirit Sprout Pills with a completion rate approaching one hundred percent 43.
- Sold forty Spirit Sprout Pills to Jiao Fengchun for 300,000 and agreed to supply him regularly 43.
Concealing Spirit Technique
A concealment technique supplied through Pei Qingying’s plan to protect Chen Jue from the Zong family 38 40.
- Conceals true qi, innate bones, and aptitude from examination.
- Enabled Chen Jue to fake damaged meridians and deficient gold-and-earth aptitude before Tang Shuo 40.
- Cannot conceal him from an examiner whose cultivation exceeds his by more than two major realms 40.
Equipment / Weapons / Items
- Patrol Inspectorate saber — Standard saber used during his early cultivation and Rat Gang battles 5 17.
- Horse-chopping saber — His preferred heavy saber in later combat; used against Du Kui and the black-market swordswoman 27 35.

- Steel pellets — Hidden weapons used to fatally wound Ding Ze 35.
- Body camera — Used to record Zhang Yaozu’s extortion attempt and reverse the situation against him 14.

Relationships
- He Yin — Mother. Their relationship is teasing and argumentative, but Chen Jue values her deeply and worries about placing her in danger 4 19.

- Chen Yun — Aunt by marriage and biological eldest aunt. She has treated Chen Jue as her own son since his father’s death 1.
- He Tang — Cousin. Chen Jue acts as her protective older brother, intervening when the Room Fire Cult targets her 3 10.

- Lin Shoucheng — Fellow inspector and trusted colleague. They fought together during the Rat Gang siege, and Chen Jue later protected him from being transferred into Team Four 17 41.
- Wu Nanyuan — Team Four partner and former black-market opponent. After recognizing one another, they develop cautious trust; Chen Jue promises not to exploit her secret cultivation level 43 47.
- Tang Shuo — Director of the general office. He approved Chen Jue’s Foundation Establishment Pill, later helped alter his cultivation records, and believed Chen Jue had become a fallen genius 6 40.
- Jiao Fengchun — Divine physician and alchemy business partner. He diagnosed Chen Jue’s exceptional constitution, supplied alchemy materials, and purchased his Spirit Sprout Pills 18 32 43.
- Zhang Wei — Team Four captain and hostile superior. Zhang Wei framed Chen Jue after Zhang Hu’s defeat, extorted money from him, and later attempted to burden him with undesirable patrol duty 7 42.
- Zong family — Former sponsors of Chen Jue’s Little Five-Element Art cultivation. Their method is designed to exploit cultivators who reach the Spirit Planting Realm, making them a concealed threat to him 12 38.
