Background / History

Zhang Daosi rose from Everharvest City as an exceptional prodigy born with an Yi-Wood Dao Body. Before Lu He's rise, he had long held first place on the Scorching Sun Golden Ranking, and the Dao Palace regarded him as a rare Heavenly Being seed. His emergence was noted alongside the sudden appearance of other major geniuses across the Treasure Toad Realm. 63

As a Dao Palace probationer on Prodigy Island, Zhang organized an expedition to the submerged water palace beneath White-Scale Lake. His objective was the Violet Firmament Origin-Spirit Ascension Pool within the third-layer Demon City, an opportunity capable of altering a cultivator's fate. 120 127

Zhang's plan relied on splitting the group into teams, infiltrating the Demon City with Demon-Transformation Talismans, and using cultivators from other cities to divide the Demon Race's attention. He personally led Lü Gaoyang's team while Lu He led the other. 127 128

During the struggle for the Sixth Spirit Vein, Zhang fought beside Lu He's Five-Element Dao Body against multiple demon generals. Though wary after learning that the immensely powerful five-colored cultivator was merely Lu He's Dao Body, he cooperated with it to secure demon crystals and survive the battle. 143 144 145

Lu He later offered Zhang two top-grade and ten high-grade Sinblood Demon Crystals, drawing him into a deeper alliance against the Aquatic Race. Zhang accepted, intending to use the resources to break into the Divine-Communion Bridge Secret Realm before confronting the Soaring Firmament Sect's Dao Child. 148 149

In the deeper Demon City, Zhang fought alongside Lu He and Huang Qiu against demon marshals, but he and Huang Qiu were forced to flee after encountering an overwhelmingly dangerous demon child. The experience convinced him that remaining in the Demon City posed an extreme risk. 162 165 166

After passing the Dao Palace probationary assessment, Zhang became an official disciple and was accepted by Azure Kui True Spirit. He later entered the Dao Son ranks as the Tenth Dao Son. 180 262

Appearance

Zhang is a very young-looking cultivator with a composed bearing and a faintly domineering air between his brows. His presence often carries dense vitality and a life-and-death Dao resonance associated with his Yi-Wood Dao Body. 235 256

  • Usually wears blue-gold or azure-gold Dharma robes. 162 235
  • Has emerald-green eyes and an aura of life and creation when manifesting his power. 120 235
  • Wears the Jianmu Azure Emperor Crown after becoming Azure Kui True Spirit's disciple. 235
  • His Yi-Wood Dao patterns resonate with the phantom of a heaven-supporting divine tree. 256

Personality

Zhang is calculating, composed, and willing to undertake dangerous gambles for major opportunities. His Demon City infiltration plan deliberately used outside cultivators as distractions, accepting increased chaos in exchange for a better chance to penetrate the enemy city. 127

He possesses the confidence and competitiveness of a top prodigy. He repeatedly seeks to overcome stronger rivals, including the Soaring Firmament Sect Dao Child, and treats retreat from a crucial opportunity as a potential flaw in his Dao heart. 137 160

Lu He's rapid growth repeatedly unsettles Zhang, especially after Lu becomes a Heavenly Being and then takes first on the Hidden Dragon Ranking. Nevertheless, he recovers his composure, accepts Senior Brother Xi's counsel, and turns his envy into renewed battle intent. 241 256

Abilities & Skills

Yi-Wood Dao Body

Zhang possesses an innate Yi-Wood Dao Body, a rare special physique capable of naturally nurturing cultivation phenomena. Its affinity complements the World Tree Azure-Realm Marvelous Chapter, his primary cultivation method. 126

  • Manifests a World Tree phantom and green immortal light. 120
  • Draws upon principles of vegetation, vitality, decay, and cyclical life and death. 256
  • Gives him an aura powerful enough to inspire fear in lesser cultivators and rival Lu He's Crimson Palace Sea presence. 120 126

Withering-and-Blooming Dharma Realm

Zhang can create an Azure Wood Dharma Realm in which vitality and deathly stillness cycle continuously. 160

  • Uses Withering-and-Blooming Divine Radiance to seal routes of escape and support allied attacks. 144
  • His Withering-Bloom Calamity-Annihilation Finger forms a massive deadwood-gray phantom finger that strips vitality from its path. 160
  • The Dharma Realm can be strained by sustained combat against demon marshals. 162

Demon City Infiltration and Strategy

Zhang is an effective field leader who plans around information, misdirection, and controlled risk rather than direct force alone. 127

  • Possesses Demon-Transformation Talismans that mimic the form and aura of corresponding Demon Race creatures, deceiving divine sense below the Violet-Gold Gate realm. 127
  • Split the expedition into two teams to scout routes into the deeper Demon City. 127 128
  • Brought other-city cultivators into the operation to create confusion and dilute the Demon Race's attention. 127
