Background / History

Monster Secret Realms, Monster Dungeons, and raid-boss calamities appeared across the world and devastated human civilization. Conventional firearms and heavy weapons proved largely ineffective against the strongest monsters. In response, Spirit Contract Masters with spiritual power emerged alongside Primordial Contract Spirit Card Pools. 5

Spirit Contract Masters use Spirit Stones earned from monster kills to draw otherworldly beings from these pools. By forming contracts with Contract Spirits, humanity gained the ability to clear dungeons, purge monsters, and stabilize society. 5

Historically, many Spirit Contract Masters exploited their control over spiritual-power supply to threaten or enslave Contract Spirits. The Imperial Capital's Contract Spirit Equality Law later established the principle that Contract Spirits are humanity's partners rather than slaves or subordinates. 72

Races and Forms

Contract Spirits come from numerous races and can possess radically different appearances, abilities, and temperaments. 1

• Human-shaped spirits — Commonly considered desirable because they can communicate easily, are generally easier to cultivate, and are popular among Spirit Contract Masters. 1
• Non-human races — Documented examples include elves, dragon-kind, beast-kind, undead, robots, and spirits with unusual or monstrous forms. 1 30 74
• Form changes — A Contract Spirit can change form during a breakthrough, as demonstrated by the Black Cat Spirit becoming a cat-eared spirit girl. 21

Contract System

Soul Connection and Contract Priority

When a Spirit Contract Master draws a Contract Spirit, the two initially form a soul connection that sustains the spirit's basic existence. The person who made the draw holds the first right to form a full contract. 2

• A dissatisfied drawer may retain the connection and sell the spirit or transfer it to an organization. 2
• Severing the connection leaves an uncontracted spirit without a source of spiritual power. 2
• A Contract Spirit that remains uncontracted for too long will dissipate and cease to exist. 1 2

Spiritual Power Dependency

A Contract Spirit's strength is limited by both its own level and its Spirit Contract Master's spiritual-power reserves. 5

• A weak or inexperienced Spirit Contract Master can restrict an otherwise powerful Contract Spirit's output. 5
• High-consumption abilities can completely exhaust a master's spiritual power. 10
• Support spirits and inscription sets can reduce spiritual-power consumption or restore reserves. 21 35 66

Death and Recovery

A Contract Spirit's death outside protected combat spaces is permanent; it disperses and cannot be revived. 10

• In the Online Ranked Tournament's special combat space, defeated spirits may revive by consuming large amounts of spiritual power. 54
• In the Contract Spirit Arena Tower, fallen Spirit Contract Masters and Contract Spirits can also be revived at a spiritual-power cost. 78

Enhancement Methods

• Monster hunting — Killing monsters provides experience and Spirit Stones. 5

Independent Existence

Most Contract Spirits rely on their contracted master's spiritual power to remain manifested. Rare exceptions exist. 1 255

Independent Manifestation

Independent Manifestation is a skill that removes the symbiotic restriction between a Spirit Contract Master and Contract Spirit. 255

• Allows a Contract Spirit to absorb ambient spiritual energy rather than relying on its master's reserves. 255
• Removes the need to protect a master during battle or fear the consequences of the master's spiritual-power exhaustion. 255
• If the spirit exhausts its own spiritual energy, it falls into a seven-day slumber. 255
• The skill is more viable for exceptionally powerful spirits; weaker spirits may still dissipate without a master's supply. 255

Native Contract Spirits

Native Contract Spirits are unusual beings capable of maintaining physical form without a Spirit Contract Master. They are believed to have appeared during the early development of humanity's contract system. 301
