Steve's Resolve

Inside a holding cell at the New York Police Emergency Response Team's headquarters, Steve stood with his arms crossed in front of Nick Fury.

Nick Fury glared with his one good eye, muttered a couple of curses, and adjusted his position in the chair. Then he looked at Steve and said, "Thank you, Captain!

Steve stared sternly at Nick Fury, who looked like a wreck, and asked, "Who was hunting you?"

Nick Fury was silent for a moment, then said, "The man who got me the position of Director of S.H.I.E.L.D..."

Steve slammed a fist down on the interrogation table in front of Nick Fury and said in a low voice, "Who is he? What exactly is S.H.I.E.L.D.?

Why does Hydra still exist?

Nick Fury stared silently up at the fluorescent light on the ceiling. A few minutes passed before he finally said in a low voice, "Alexander Pierce, the former Director of S.H.I.E.L.D. and Secretary-General of the World Security Council. He's with Hydra.

S.H.I.E.L.D.? S.H.I.E.L.D. is just S.H.I.E.L.D. We serve the world...

Steve stared into Nick Fury's eyes. "But what?"

Why are you telling me that a member of Hydra could become Director of S.H.I.E.L.D., and is now the Secretary-General of the World Security Council?
