Background / History
Chen Feng is the largely unknown master of the remote and poorly attended Broken Mountain Martial Arts Hall. The hall has only a little over thirty disciples—far fewer than the larger local halls—and its reputation is so obscure that people speculate Chen Feng was once a retired greenwood hero. 6
When Duan Xuan comes seeking instruction, Chen Feng immediately recognizes his upper second-grade bones but judges his severely depleted blood and qi to be potentially fatal for martial practice. He nevertheless accepts him as a nominal disciple, giving him two months to reach Manifest Force. 5
The arrival of Lin Hu and Liu Mingze, both possessing Class A innate bones, raises Chen Feng's hopes of restoring the hall's standing. He names them core disciples and promises to make them personal disciples if they reach Dark Force; after their rapid breakthroughs, he formally accepts both as his only personal disciples. 8 24
Though Chen Feng initially doubts Duan Xuan can enter Bright Force, he provides an extra coarse-grain flatbread for him and permits him to continue practicing even if he must later leave the hall. 8 Duan Xuan's eventual progression to Dark Force causes Chen Feng to reassess him; he rewards Duan Xuan with a Blood Qi Pill, personally teaches him the final three moves of the Broken Mountain Fist, and states that all disciples should be treated equally. 39
Appearance
Chen Feng is an elderly man whose slow, calm movements conceal exceptional martial power. 5
- Usually keeps his hands behind his back while observing or instructing disciples. 5 19
- His hands are described as powerful enough to feel like “great iron pincers” when examining Duan Xuan's physique. 5
- Maintains an outwardly ordinary, restrained demeanor despite the sharpness and strength sensed beneath it. 6
Personality
Chen Feng is direct and pragmatic in judging martial potential. He frankly warns Duan Xuan that depleted blood and qi may make cultivation impossible, establishes a strict deadline, and considers martial arts a path that can cost practitioners their lives. 5
He places great value on innate talent and initially gives Lin Hu and Liu Mingze additional attention because of their Class A bones and rapid progress. 6 11 However, he also recognizes perseverance: after Duan Xuan reaches Dark Force, Chen Feng credits the breakthrough to “great perseverance and great courage,” rather than luck. 39
As an instructor, he emphasizes ferocity, forward momentum, and practical killing power rather than ornamental technique. 6 When disciples seek revenge after Zhang Chen and Zhou Ye are badly injured, he restrains them, judging immediate retaliation against Scale Python Martial Academy to be a possible trap. 44
Abilities & Skills
Transformation Realm Cultivation
Chen Feng is a Transformation Realm martial artist whose force can remain hidden until it causes internal damage.
- A seemingly ordinary punch leaves a wooden post outwardly intact while crushing it internally. 5
- He demonstrates Bright Force by shattering a large black stone into four pieces. 6
- His Dark Force can strike a training dummy with no visible force before sending it flying or causing delayed internal fractures. 40
- He can condense a fist wave formed from hard qi and fire it outward using Transformation Realm cultivation. 41
Broken Mountain Stake Method
Chen Feng teaches the hall's stance method for gathering and stabilizing blood and qi.
- The stance draws upon the earth's power to transform it into blood and qi. 6
- It emphasizes rooting the body, attacking without hesitation, and cultivating the resolve to charge forward without retreat. 6
- Chen Feng uses it as the foundation for the power generation of the Broken Mountain Fist. 10
Broken Mountain Fist
Chen Feng is the principal teacher of the six-move Broken Mountain Fist, a combat art centered on force, aggression, and breaking defenses.
- Opening Mountain Form — The first move: Break Ground probes an opponent's force, Split Stone layers successive punches, and Break Wall concentrates accumulated power into an explosive finishing blow. 10
- Mountain Rift — The second move: Drill Split focuses penetrating force at a single point, Mountain Sweep controls multiple attackers, and Rupture combines feints with simultaneous outer and inner force. 19
- Peak-Crusher — The third move: Rage Charge, Overlapping Waves, and Sole Supremacy build momentum for a desperate offensive reversal. 30
- Ridge Overturn — The fourth move uses Dark Force to suppress an area's force field, restrain movement, disrupt formations, and strike with crushing descending force. Its first form, Earth Suppression, confines agile opponents. 40
- Fifth and sixth moves — Ultimate offensive techniques intended for confronting Transformation Realm martial artists; Chen Feng identifies their principle as “Brute-Force Technique-Breaking.” 40 41
