After eating and drinking their fill, Li Nian and Wanda walked side by side through the streets of San Francisco. Night had already fallen, and there were far fewer people on the streets. After all, it was common knowledge that America was unsafe after dark.
Li Nian walked slowly ahead while Wanda followed closely behind him. As they walked, they reached a residential street.
"I remember Sam was stationed around here," Li Nian suddenly said.
Wanda's eyes widened. In such a nice atmosphere, you bring this up? You dead-straight man! Big idiot!
"I... I think so..." Wanda answered reluctantly.
A faint smile appeared at the corner of Li Nian's lips as he stopped walking. The distracted Wanda behind him nearly bumped into him.
"What is it?" Wanda asked in confusion. Li Nian smiled casually and pointed at one of the houses ahead. "Something seems to be happening inside."
"Hm?" Wanda replied doubtfully, looking in the direction he pointed.
Suddenly, a helicopter overhead lost control and looked ready to crash at any moment.
Seeing this, Li Nian did not like Hydra, but with Wanda beside him, he did not want her to see his cold side.
Li Nian instantly soared into the air, reverting to his original appearance. He flew up, steadied the helicopter, pulled the people inside out, and rather roughly tossed them in front of Wanda.
"These people are Hydra. Watch them. We'll hand them over to Nick Fury later," Li Nian told Wanda.
"Hydra? Why are they here?" Wanda asked in surprise. Then screams suddenly rang out from the house ahead, and someone could vaguely be heard shouting for the police.
"Robbers?" Wanda said grimly.
"Much worse than a robbery." Li Nian's body turned translucent, and he passed straight through the wall into someone's yard.
At that moment, a red and a yellow figure were locked in combat. Just then, Scott was sent flying out by Yellowjacket.
Looking at the ping-pong paddle in front of him, Scott immediately came up with a good idea.
Yellowjacket shrank himself and shot out of the house. Even though his body had shrunk, his strength remained unchanged, retaining its original level. His mass had clearly decreased, though. Li Nian really wanted to complain about quantum technology. It was simply too unscientific.
Scott grabbed the paddle before him and swung it hard at Yellowjacket. The tiny figure was instantly smacked away and crashed into a streetlamp. It crackled and flashed several times before falling silent.
Watching the two fight as though they were playing around, Li Nian found it hilariously entertaining, like a battle in Lilliput.
Seeing that things had calmed down, Scott immediately turned to the family and said, "It's all right now!"
Scott's eyes widened when he saw Li Nian, this strangely dressed oddball floating in midair.
"Who are you?"
Scott shouted in surprise, his expression instantly turning wary. He knew about the Avengers, but he had only gotten out of prison a few days ago. Clearly, he did not know Li Nian, this new Avenger.
"I'm Vision, an Avenger, Scott." Li Nian flew over the pool, gestured for the Black family nearby to call the police, then slowly flew toward Scott.
"You know me?" Scott asked incredulously. He had just stolen something from the Avengers and fought Falcon Sam, so it was easy to assume the Avengers had learned about it and come to teach him a lesson.
"I was wrong. I did steal the stuff, but that was all Hank's idea. It had nothing to do with me. I was just carrying it out. If you're looking for someone, go find Hank."
Scott spoke nervously, afraid that Li Nian would cause him trouble. The guy in front of him looked like someone not to be messed with.
"I'm not here because of that. I just happened to run into you. I know your information because I accessed it from my mind," Li Nian reassured Scott, telling him not to be nervous.
"Hands up! Don't move!"
At that moment, two police officers came in from outside, their guns aimed at the two men.
Scott turned around, and one of the officers clearly saw his face. He said in disbelief, "Scott?"
"Paxton? You have to listen to me..." Scott instantly recognized him. He was his ex-wife's current husband, his daughter's stepfather, a police officer—the complete opposite of a thief like him.
The other officer immediately pulled the trigger, and a bullet shot from the muzzle.
Just as the bullet was about to hit Scott, Li Nian flashed in front of him.
Bang!
The bullet struck Li Nian and fell to the ground with a crackle of electricity.
"Why did you shoot?!" Paxton angrily demanded of his colleague.
"That guy looked strange. I was afraid he might be dangerous..." The officer pointed at Scott and Li Nian beside him.
"This guy looks kind of familiar. Have I seen him somewhere before?" Paxton stared at Li Nian's face. It was strange, but it felt familiar somehow.
"Vision! Are you all right?" Wanda came in from outside at that moment and looked at Li Nian with concern.
"You're Avengers?" Paxton finally remembered who they were.
"The newcomers from Sokovia, Vision and Wanda!"
As American citizens, they knew the names of every Avenger. They were famous throughout the world.
"Whew... that scared me to death!" Scott let out a long breath, feeling greatly relieved.
"What are the Avengers doing here?"
"It was just a coincidence. We..." Li Nian pointed at himself and Wanda, hesitated, then said, "We came to... that's not important. We came for Scott, to invite him to join the Avengers."
The moment he said that, everyone present stared at him in surprise.
"He stole our things, so he can either join the Avengers and make up for his mistakes, or go to prison. I think Scott probably doesn't want to choose the latter."
Li Nian spoke expressionlessly.
"So that's how it is..." Paxton gave Scott a sympathetic look. Stealing from the Avengers—he really had guts.
"Then what are you doing here?" Paxton looked suspiciously at Scott in his bizarre costume. "There was a helicopter accident nearby. Did you have anything to do with it?"
"What a coincidence..." Scott avoided the probing gaze of his love rival, whistling as he pretended not to know anything.
"Oh, right, that guy... Darren. He did it... He's right here." Scott pointed toward the light bulb in the corner. Darren, also known as Yellowjacket, was there.
Several people looked toward the light bulb. The two officers leaned closer and widened their eyes, their faces full of astonishment.
"See? It wasn't *** mine," Scott said smugly with his hands on his hips. "I took down the villain all by myself. I can't believe it..."
Paxton exchanged a look with the other officer, then took out his handcuffs and faced Scott. "There's no one here... not even an ant. Scott, surrender. I'll try to get you a lighter sentence. Turn yourself in."
Scott was dumbfounded and shouted, "He's right there! Can't you see him? He's..."
Scott shoved the two of them aside and stared hard at the light bulb himself, but there was no sign of Darren at all.
"What's wrong with him...?"
Wanda tugged on Li Nian's cape and asked in confusion.
"His enemy disappeared." Li Nian paused. "A little guy who can grow and shrink. Just a third-rate villain. Nothing serious."
"Oh," Wanda replied blankly.
Scott was still arguing his case, trying to make the officers believe him, but Paxton did not believe a word he said. In a stern tone, he said, "Scott, you don't want Cassie to be sad, do you? You don't want her to know that her father is not only a thief, but also a robber. Scott, turn yourself in."
"I told you, I'm not..." Scott was pushed to the brink and began explaining incoherently, his voice so loud it sounded like a roar.
"Wait... Cassie!"
Scott seemed to suddenly realize something. He anxiously grabbed Paxton's arm. "Cassie—Cassie is in danger. Darren knows Cassie is my daughter... We need to find Cassie now."
Paxton's expression changed as well. He said sternly, "Scott, I'm Cassie's father now. I know you love her, but you'd better not joke about Cassie!"
