First Appearance Chapter 3

Background / History

Bai Yuesheng grew up alongside Gu Jiuque as his childhood friend and later confessed his love to him. In Gu Jiuque's previous life, Gu treated Bai as his last remaining family after the Gu family's downfall: he taught him antique appraisal and dating, introduced him to his connections, and made him a partner in rebuilding Antique Appreciation Studio. Bai nevertheless took the Gu family heirloom, the Jade Celestial Pivot, while Gu was unconscious. 4

In that prior life, Bai used the heirloom's treasure-appraising function to rise as a famous appraiser and bargain hunter. He later opened an auction house with Jin Weixie, helped suppress the truth surrounding Grandpa Gu's framing, inherited Antique Appreciation Studio after Gu Jiuque's death, and married Jin Weixie. 4 14

After Gu Jiuque's rebirth, Bai again pursued the Jade Celestial Pivot. Following Gu's rejection of his confession, Bai brought beer into the Gu Family Mansion, became intoxicated, and trespassed into the Western Wing. A beer bottle knocked over an incense burner, spreading ash onto books and wooden furniture and causing a major fire. The initial investigation treated the blaze as negligence, but later evidence regarding Bai's alcohol tolerance led the Gu family to sue him for arson. 12 13 120

Facing a compensation claim of roughly sixteen million yuan, Bai repeatedly attempted to use public sympathy to pressure Gu Jiuque into abandoning legal action. His offers to quit university and repay the debt gradually were presented as proof of devotion, though he privately had no intention of compensating the Gu family. Shen Heng exposed the contradiction in Bai's behavior, turning the crowd against him. 29 30 31 33

Appearance

Bai Yuesheng is repeatedly described as delicate and refined-looking, with a slender, frail build and clear black eyes. He consciously uses a harmless, pitiable appearance to elicit sympathy and obscure his hostility. 30 113 152

  • Delicate, soft-featured face that makes him appear younger and more vulnerable than he is. 30 31
  • Often adopts red-rimmed eyes, tears, and timid body language when addressing investigators, neighbors, or cameras. 13 98 113
  • After Shentu Fang's captivity, all ten of his fingers are severed and both Achilles tendons are permanently damaged. 167 175

Personality

Bai Yuesheng is image-conscious, ambitious, and highly skilled at presenting himself as an innocent victim. He frames his demands in emotional terms, invokes his poverty and youth, and turns criticism into proof that others are supposedly cruel or heartless. 30 31 98

His attachment to Gu Jiuque is possessive rather than selfless. Although he claims to love Gu, he covets Gu's heirloom, resents Gu's success, and attempts to use Gu's guilt, reputation, and relationships as leverage. Shen Heng observes that Bai's feelings show far more hatred and jealousy than affection. 32 106 153

Bai refuses to accept responsibility for the consequences of his actions. He blames his parents for failing to pay the Gu family, Gu Jiuque for the Bai family's disasters, and ultimately the world's “plot” for denying him the life he believes he deserves. 33 68 178 179

Bargain Hunting

Bai has an unusual instinct for locating potentially valuable antiques despite lacking formal appraisal knowledge. Gu Jiuque discovers that Bai possessed this talent even without the Jade Celestial Pivot. 39

  • Searches antique markets for bargains to raise money for the Gu family's compensation claim. 39 65
  • Obtains several valuable-looking pieces on West City Antique Street, though some prove to be fakes. 41

  • Builds a large following through tournament livestreams despite weak professional appraisal and restoration skills. 106 110

Crazy San Investigation

Desperate to escape his debt, Bai provides information about the person connected to the tampering of Gu Yugui's car.
