He turned his head to look at Su You behind him.
Understanding, Su You nodded slightly. With a lift of his hand, an invisible ripple of battle qi silently spread out, blocking everyone nearby from sensing anything.
With Su You's cultivation at the peak of the nine-star Dou Emperor realm, no one in Qing Mountain Town could detect the slightest anomaly.
Su Zhao's figure flashed as he lightly swept down from the rooftop, landing soundlessly on the ledge outside the window like a fallen leaf.
He gently pushed the window open, then flipped inside.
Then he froze.
Candlelight flickered in the room, and mist hung in the air.
A large wooden tub stood in the middle of the room, its water still giving off curling steam. Beside it, Little Doctor stood with her back to the window, her hands at her collar. One of her outer robes had already slipped halfway off, exposing her smooth, fair shoulders and delicate collarbones—
Su Zhao's pupils suddenly contracted.
Almost at the same moment, Little Doctor heard the movement behind her and whirled around—
Their eyes met.
The air seemed to freeze in that instant.
The next moment—
"Ah!!!"
A piercing scream tore through the night!
Little Doctor's face instantly turned crimson. She desperately covered her chest with both hands and hurriedly yanked her half-removed robe back over herself. Her eyes were wide with shock, rage, embarrassment, and indignation.
"Lecher!"
Su Zhao panicked as well. He hurriedly waved his hands and took half a step back. "Wait! It's not what you think!"
But how could Little Doctor listen now? Blushing furiously, she pulled a packet of medicinal powder from her sleeve and flung it straight at Su Zhao!
"Puff—"
A cloud of green smoke suddenly burst between them, and an intense medicinal smell instantly filled the room.
Taking advantage of the moment, Little Doctor swiftly dressed herself and tightened her sash. When she turned back around, her chest was still heaving violently, and her beautiful eyes were filled with anger.
"Hmph! Shameless bastard! You actually dared to sneak into this lady's room! I carefully concocted this powder myself. Even high-level Dou Practitioners can't withstand it—they'll be unconscious for nearly half an hour! Just watch how I deal with you, you lecher—"
Before she could finish, the green smoke slowly dispersed, revealing the somewhat helpless figure of the young man behind it.
"Cough, cough, cough..."
As Su Zhao waved away the poisonous smoke before him, he gave a wry smile. "Sorry, sorry. I didn't know you were changing clothes. I truly meant no harm."
Little Doctor froze.
"Y-you're fine?"
She stared wide-eyed at the young man before her in disbelief.
She had personally prepared that packet of powder, so she knew its potency better than anyone. Even a seven- or eight-star Dou Practitioner would become dizzy and collapse after taking a breath of it, yet this person had merely coughed twice. His complexion was normal, and even his footing had not wavered in the slightest.
Su Zhao steadied his breathing and said helplessly, "Of course I'm fine. Because... I have the same constitution as you. Oh, right, let me introduce myself. My name is Su Zhao."
Little Doctor studied him warily, her brows tightly furrowed. "The same constitution as mine? What are you talking about?"
Su Zhao knew she would not believe him easily, but he was in no rush. He merely said softly, "Have you ever noticed that when you concoct poisons, no poison has any effect on you? And that those poisons... seem to hold an inexplicable attraction for you, making you unconsciously want to touch them and try them?"
Little Doctor's pupils abruptly shrank, and she felt as though she had been struck by lightning!
These... these were secrets buried deep in her heart!
Ever since her first encounter with poison, she had discovered that she was different from ordinary people. To her, those toxic substances seemed like ordinary medicine. She could even touch highly poisonous herbs directly with her bare hands and remain completely unharmed.
Even stranger, whenever she concocted poisons, an uncontrollable impulse would rise within her, as though those poisons were calling to her, tempting her...
She had never told anyone about these things. Not even the owner of Ten Thousand Medicine Hall knew. How could this young man, whom she had never met before, know them so clearly?!
"H-how do you know?!"
Seeing her reaction, Su Zhao knew she already believed more than half of it. He continued, "This is a special constitution known as the Calamity Poison Body. The two of us both possess it."
Little Doctor stood there in a daze for a long while without speaking. She carefully examined the young man before her. Moonlight streamed in through the window, illuminating his youthful and earnest face. For some reason, she suddenly recalled that moment on the street during the day—the inexplicable flutter in her heart, the feeling of being drawn by something...
So it was him.
Little Doctor finally calmed down somewhat. She took a deep breath and seriously sensed the aura emanating from the young man before her.
Sure enough... that faint attraction really was there. It was just like... just like the attraction those poisons held for her, making her unable to stop herself from wanting to draw near.
"You mean... we both have this constitution?"
She asked in a low voice, the wariness in her tone finally fading somewhat.
Su Zhao nodded, a faint curve appearing at the corner of his lips.
"That's right. So I told you, I truly meant no harm."
Little Doctor put her hands on her hips. Though her expression had softened somewhat, she still refused to let him off verbally. "Hmph, even so, you're no good person. Sneaking into a girl's bedroom at night—what else could you be but a pervert?"
Su Zhao's mouth twitched, and he had no strength to refute her.
Fine, a pervert it was.
He gave a dry cough and simply stopped trying to explain. The more he explained this matter, the worse it would sound.
"Ahem... there's actually something else I wanted to ask you."
Little Doctor raised a brow. "What?"
Su Zhao looked at her, his expression becoming more serious. "Have you found a cave beneath a cliff in the Magic Beast Mountain Range?"
Little Doctor's body stiffened slightly. Her gaze flickered, and she immediately turned her head away, her tone deliberately casual. "A cave? What are you talking about? I don't understand."
"Oh—"
Su Zhao drew out the word, looking at her with an ambiguous smile.
"Looks like you've already found it."
"What? I already said I don't know!"
Little Doctor turned back to him, her cheeks slightly flushed, whether from embarrassment or frustration was unclear.
"Enough pretending."
Su Zhao rolled his eyes.
"Your little tricks can't fool me. There's something in that cave that both of us need."
Little Doctor's expression shifted, and she finally could not resist asking, "You know what's inside?"
Su Zhao shot her an annoyed look. "So you admit you know about it?"
Little Doctor froze, then realized that she had let it slip. She stuck out her tongue playfully. "I only vaguely confirmed it. I don't know whether it's the one you're talking about. I hadn't even made up my mind to go take a look yet."
Su Zhao nodded, his tone certain. "Don't worry. It should be that one. Tomorrow, I'll enter the mountains with you. Then we can take the things from the cave."
