Mary Walker chatted idly with Sean as she drove.
She was a talkative woman. Before he knew it, she had taken control of the rhythm and initiative of the conversation. Sean had practically been following Mary's train of thought the entire time.
After a few rounds of casual conversation, Mary Walker had managed to pry out most of Sean's story.
But Sean did not really care. He had a clear conscience in everything he did, and nothing to hide from others.
If he truly did not want to talk, how could Mary Walker possibly get anything out of him?
In return, Sean also learned a few things about Mary.
Twenty-one years old, apparently a professional actress. She had come to Canada purely to revisit an old place, claiming she had once lived here. She was driving all this way because she had a small role audition waiting for her in Seattle.
Still, Sean always felt that something about Mary was strange. Every now and then, she showed a violent temper, accompanied by a flirtatious expression.
Mary had an explanation for that herself: she had played too many villainous women and sometimes got too immersed in the role.
Well, Sean could only choose to believe her.
After stopping for gas once, the car swayed along toward the United States.
It was already dark. Having gone without sleep the night before last and all of yesterday, Sean could barely hold on. Even his mutant ability of limitless stamina could not ward off his drowsiness.
Seeing that Mary was exhausted as well, Sean suggested, for safety's sake, that Yuriko—who was still full of energy—take the wheel.
Mary sat in the passenger seat, while he curled up in the back to nap.
Half-asleep, Sean felt someone sit beside him, but he did not pay it much mind.
Then he drifted off again.
When he woke up once more, something felt off... Why did it feel like Vanessa was beside him?
He lifted his head and looked...
Sean's teeth ached. Mary Walker was actually taking advantage of him!
How could he possibly tolerate that?
He reached out and pushed her head down...
Yuriko continued driving with a blank expression, utterly unconcerned by the car's rhythmic rocking.
When the harp song ended, Sean felt a little melancholy~
How many times had he cheated on Vanessa behind her back?
Hmm... It was actually his first time!
His gaze toward Mary Walker could not help becoming complicated. This time, there was no official endorsement. Did that count as making a mistake?
"Are you satisfied?" Mary Walker asked, still looking unsatisfied. As she spoke, she licked her lips.
"Hehe~" Sean gave an awkward laugh.
Satisfied? He could not bring himself to say it. Not satisfied? How could he say something so against his conscience?
"You..."
"I kind of like you~"
So direct. Were American girls all this open? He had been here for half a year already—how had he never noticed?
"Remember my name. I'm Typhoid Mary!"
"Aren't you Mary Walker?"
"That little good girl isn't me~"
"..."
Sean's eyelid twitched... This was a little like Phoenix. Split personalities!
"All right, Typhoid Mary. I'll remember you."
"Once I'm done with my business, I'll come find you in New York~ That little good girl can't hold on much longer..."
Sean adjusted his clothes and watched as Mary's expression changed from lewd to completely proper.
The instant shift was truly unusual, and Sean studied it carefully.
The result was that Mary blushed furiously under his gaze.
"Sean~ Don't look at me like that."
Mary Walker knew perfectly well everything Typhoid Mary had done. She was so embarrassed that she wished she could bash her head against a wall and die~
But she could not control the behavior of her other personalities. She could only endure it silently.
Hearing Mary say that, Sean awkwardly turned to look ahead, trying not to look at her lips.
"Why is your car right-hand drive?"
Sean used the ancient art of changing the subject, hoping to ease the awkwardness between them.
"It's a Japanese car... Secondhand."
"Oh~"
This girl was not doing all that well either.
"You... how long have you been like this?"
In the end, Sean could not help asking Mary Walker.
"Mm... A few years, I guess."
"Do you want to get treatment?"
"I've seen a lot of doctors. In the end, they..."
"Mm?"
"In the end, they all got... beaten away~"
What a miserable experience. This girl had really had it rough.
"I can treat you." Sean could not help wanting to issue another loan. It was practically instinct carved into his bones... Tsk~ Was this an occupational habit, or was the black ledger subtly changing him?
"But we need to reach a medical loan agreement."
"Mmh~"
"Verbally."
"Mmh?"
"Weight: sixty-four kilograms. One hundred twenty-eight thousand. Double house-call fees, two hundred fifty-six thousand total. Interest first, principal later. Use it for as long as you like."
Sean said it casually, but he could already see Mary Walker's name appear in the ledger. That meant the girl had agreed in her heart.
What was there to wait for? Complete the transaction!
But the contents of Mary Walker's page made Sean's scalp tingle~
How many personalities did this girl have?
Her current normal personality, Mary Walker. Cowardly Mary, the violent and promiscuous Typhoid Mary, the bloody and brutal Bloody Mary, and even a Virgin Mary...
She really had every kind of personality. Sean had never seen anyone so comprehensive before.
But he was delighted. Going by the number of personalities, he could make four transactions with Mary!
One million twenty-four thousand!
Come on! Remove Bloody Mary! Two hundred fifty-six thousand in hand! The secondary personalities did not even have weight—Sean was making a total profit!
Cowardly Mary, remove her. Another two hundred fifty-six thousand!
Virgin Mary! Remove her, and reap another two hundred fifty-six thousand!
But when it came to Typhoid Mary, Sean hesitated~ After all, they had just engaged in some deep interaction. Would it be a little inappropriate to turn his back on her so quickly?
Doctor White was not the kind of man who forgot a woman after pulling his pants back on. He absolutely was not greedy for her skills!
He decisively gave up the two hundred fifty-six thousand in profit.
Mary Walker and Typhoid Mary... had now gone from five-in-one to two-in-one. That counted as cured, right?
"Okay, done. Only you and Typhoid are left."
"Really?!"
Mary Walker was extremely excited, but then she realized Sean was merely comforting her. How could she be cured after sleeping together and exchanging a few words?
If that were all it took, would all those doctors not have studied for nothing all those years?
Seeing that she did not believe him, Sean did not explain.
The loan of seven hundred sixty-eight thousand had already been successfully issued. Whether she believed it or not did not matter.
But Mary Walker did not last long. Typhoid Mary emerged again, and the sight of those red lips made Sean's heart skip another beat.
"I'm back~"
"Mmh~"
Yuriko had to grip the steering wheel tightly to keep the swaying car from driving off the embankment.
The sounds of flute and strings never ceased, and the swaying car finally arrived in Seattle.
It was time to part ways~
Sean actually felt a little reluctant~
It was absolutely not because of Mary's extraordinary skills and peerless musical talent. Absolutely not! Doctor White was not that kind of person!
They had simply enjoyed each other's company~ That was all!
Because they had gotten along so well, Mary even bought two plane tickets to New York for Sean and Yuriko.
Sitting beside Yuriko on the plane, Sean frowned, feeling somewhat uneasy.
How was he supposed to report this to Vanessa when he got back?
Keep it from her? No, that would not do. Doctor White was too accustomed to being upright and honest to hide such sneaky, shameful behavior!
Even when the plane landed, he still had not figured out how to explain it~
What a headache!
Forget it, he would take things one step at a time~
The more than ten thousand units of source essence he had earned through this life-and-death journey would be enough to cover up that little flaw along the way. Vanessa would forgive him!
An ability that granted immortality!
And rapid regeneration!
Surely that was worth more than such a tiny flaw!
Thinking that way, he relaxed considerably...
Sean: How could I possibly be a man who covets carnal pleasure? I'm a man determined to expand the lending business across the entire Marvel Universe!
Vanessa: Want to try Lorna?
Sean: Sure, sure!
Looks like everyone isn't familiar with Typhoid Mary~
She's a very interesting character: Kingpin's favorite subordinate. She can flirt, she can fight, and she's seriously messed up!
Another two thousand words today! The Diligent Tree truly lives up to its name!
Send those recommendation votes my way!~
