Background / History
At his peak, Yao Chen was a renowned Dou Venerate and publicly regarded as the continent's foremost alchemist. He possessed the Heavenly Realm soul, the Bone Chilling Flame, the Flame Mantra, and the Black Demon Cauldron. He also served as the Pavilion Master of Starfall Pavilion, whose influence declined sharply after his disappearance. 105 106 118 131
Yao Chen treated Han Feng as his own son, but Han Feng betrayed him for the Flame Mantra and joined forces with outsiders against him. The betrayal cost Yao Chen his body and left him surviving as a severely weakened soul within his storage ring. The ring eventually came into Xiao Yan's possession, and Yao Chen unconsciously absorbed Xiao Yan's Dou Qi while remaining semi-dormant. 37 38 65
Qin Hao discovered Yao Chen through his Double Pupils and forcibly awakened him. With Yao Chen unable to resist, Qin Hao offered a deal: Yao Chen would provide the Flame Mantra and his alchemy inheritance, then serve Qin Hao for one hundred years; in exchange, Qin Hao would help him obtain revenge and resurrect him. Qin Hao compensated him with Cang Xuanzi's eighth-grade alchemy inheritance and Seven-Colored Green Spirit Saliva to restore his soul power. 38 39
After further recovery through a Seven-Turn Soul-Nurturing Pill, Yao Chen personally confronted Han Feng in Maple City. He used spatial shackles and the Bone Chilling Flame to capture and torture his former disciple, eventually reducing Han Feng to a broken idiot after nearly a month of torment. 59 65 70 105
Yao Chen later reunited with Wind Venerable at Starfall Pavilion and with Xuan Yi, Xuan Kongzi, and Tian Leizi at the Pill Tower. Their support helped secure resources to restore his soul origin, while Qin Hao ultimately obtained powerful bodies from the Hall of Souls for the resurrection ritual. 105 109 110 128
Qin Hao successfully resurrected Yao Chen in a body that fit his soul even better than his original body. The rebirth elevated him directly to the Dou Saint realm, expanded his future potential beyond high-level Dou Zun, and allowed his alchemy to surpass his former peak. 129 131

Personality
Yao Chen is proud, especially regarding alchemy; even at his peak, he believed his talent inferior to no one. However, the loss of his body and soul origin forced him to become pragmatic enough to accept Qin Hao's harsh terms for a chance at revenge and resurrection. 39 106
He is deeply loyal to old friends, as shown by his emotional reunion with Wind Venerable and the complicated gratitude he feels toward Xuan Yi and the Pill Tower's leaders. Conversely, Han Feng's betrayal left him utterly merciless toward his former disciple. 65 105 110
