Daoist Zuo, having received his formal appointment, first used the Heaven-Training Dao Canon to send documents to the Military Prefectures of the various Outer Layer continent-hosts. After receiving supportive replies, he continued using the Heaven-Training Dao Canon to issue recruitment orders to the various expeditionary companies.
In the early days, the Outer Layer's various hosts had used the Twenty-Eight Mansions as a barrier. Since communication through the void was difficult, there had been little outward exploration; defense had been the main priority, with camps stationed on only a few Earth Stars at most. But with the Heaven-Training Dao Canon now available, they no longer had to hold fast behind their walls—they could strike out in every direction.
During this period, large numbers of expeditionary companies had ventured deep into the void to battle enemies. Every expeditionary company that had successfully survived possessed abundant combat experience.
Now that Upper Firmament Heaven had been destroyed and many evil gods had been slain, the pressure on the Outer Layer had greatly diminished. There was no longer any need for so many expeditionary companies, and many had disbanded of their own accord.
Yet Daoist Zuo believed that these veteran soldiers had fought nonhuman enemies year after year. Some had decades of campaigning behind them, and it would be a pity for them simply to scatter. Better to let them earn merit in the Inner Layer; that was why he had made these arrangements.
Two days later, he brought his two disciples to wait outside the Guardian of Rectitude garrison on Yiluo Upper Continent. Before long, an oval shadow appeared overhead. Then a beam of golden light descended, and more than ten silver spindle-shaped flying vessels emerged in midair.
The first to return was the Wei Clan Army, with whom they had dealt all along.
