This seal was called "World-Stilling." Once activated, it could forcibly leave behind a wisp of his life-fire in this world.
At the instant he used Grand Chaos as aid to cross upward, he would seek to slay himself and utterly extinguish all that he was. Yet at that moment, this seal would forcibly bind and retain the wisp of life-fire he had left behind.
Because of the nature of his cultivation, so long as his life-fire remained, his life would not be extinguished. Thus, if this fire could endure and return in time, he could use the sliver of heavenly opportunity he had opened for himself earlier to climb upward and achieve the upper realm.
This method imposed extraordinarily demanding requirements upon one's grasp of timing and one's understanding of the transformations between life and death, reality and illusion.
