The days passed in this monotonous yet fulfilling way.
Beneath the lake breeze, ripples spread across the water. Flowers along the shore swayed and filled the air with fragrance. The once-bare green mountains were once again dotted with emerald hues, while birds and beasts returned to the forests, along with their cries... The whole world gradually regained its former vitality.
Wu Chu built a chicken coop and laid a pebble path leading to the Clear Spirit Spring...
Little Moon Spirit, ever diligent, took care of hauling the stones herself. With a gentle wave of her tiny jade hand, stones of all sizes floated through the air and returned with her. Wu Chu only needed to place them along the dirt path and tamp them down with a wooden mallet.
When they were done, he had Little Moon Spirit move a piece of Purple Jade Spiritwood in front of the house and carve it into a table and stools.
To keep Little Moon Spirit from getting too bored, Wu Chu taught her to carve a chessboard from blocks of Purple Jade Spiritwood, then sent her to find black and white jade stones.
That was no challenge for Little Moon Spirit. She might have been small, but she had plenty of tricks.
Before long, the first set of black-and-white chess in the Primordial World appeared. Old Heavenly Dao seemed to sense that they had come up with another new creation and once more bestowed Merit upon them as a reward.
Though it was not much Merit, as the makers of the black-and-white chess, Wu Chu and Little Moon Spirit each received a small share. Most of the Merit was absorbed by the chessboard and the two bowls of pieces.
It was only because there were too many pieces that the chessboard, the bowls, and the pieces together counted as one complete Merit Spiritual Treasure.
Of course, a Merit Spiritual Treasure like this could not have been of particularly high quality. If separated, each chess piece contained only a wisp of Merit and could not be considered a Spirit Treasure.
Yet Little Moon Spirit was still delighted. Her little mouth split into a grin, exposing her Tooth Blossom, while her large eyes curved into crescent moons. Yibao was so irritated that he secretly ground his teeth. Why do I never get a share of this Merit? Heaven is unfair!
"Come on. Today, I'll teach you a simple game first—Gomoku..."
Wu Chu set out the board and played Gomoku with Little Moon Spirit.
The rules were simple, and the gameplay was easy. It was very easy to pick up.
Unfortunately, Little Moon Spirit had quite a talent for other things, such as cultivation and cooking, but she seemed hopelessly untalented at recreational games. She looked rather clumsy.
"Brother A Chu, I lost again. Am I very stupid?"
"You really are!"
Yibao chose that moment to stir up trouble, nearly sending Little Moon Spirit into depression.
Fortunately, Wu Chu promptly rebuked him. "This is a new game, after all. You've only just learned the rules, so isn't it normal that you can't play well yet? Don't lose heart. Take it slowly from now on."
Wu Chu had intended to use his own poor aptitude for cultivation as an example, but then he realized that the girl would probably think he was merely being modest again, so he stopped himself from saying anything foolish.
After playing for a while, he had Little Moon Spirit help him pile stones and yellow mud into a simple mud-and-stone stove.
What surprised Wu Chu, however, was that Old Heavenly Dao did not grant them any Merit for this stove. This was a product of civilized society!
Even toilets received Merit, yet a stove did not? That made no sense!
Of course, it was also possible that Old Heavenly Dao regarded the stove as a derivative of a simple stone stove and therefore saw no need to grant Merit.
The mud stove had two fire openings: one for a clay pot and one for a clay kettle. When stir-frying, the leftover heat could also be used to boil water.
With this earthen stove, cooking naturally became much easier.
"Brother A Chu, there are no more Purple Jade Spirit Crabapples to juice."
Little Moon Spirit floated in the air as she prepared to make the last batch of Chicken Stewed with Mushrooms and use up the entire Lingzhi. Only then did she discover that the Purple Jade Spirit Crabapples were gone.
"Mm, go find some more! Right, bring back everything you can find. The rotten ones are no good. Later, I'll teach you how to brew Purple Jade Spirit Crabapple Wine..."
About two hours later, Wu Chu looked at the mountain-like pile of Purple Jade Spirit Crabapples before him and did not know what to say.
He knew there would be plenty of fallen Purple Jade Spirit Crabapples, but he had not expected this many. Divine Sense truly was useful when it came to finding certain things.
Fortunately, they were fairly resistant to rot... Though by this world's reckoning, it had only been ten days or half a month.
"Wash the fruit, mash it, put it into bamboo barrels, then add Clear Spirit Spring water. After that, cover the barrels and leave them for a while. But leave a hole in the lid to release the waste gas produced by fermentation, or the bamboo barrels might burst from the pressure."
As Wu Chu instructed Little Moon Spirit, he squeezed the juice from a Purple Jade Spirit Crabapple.
To Wu Chu, basically everything in the Primordial World was good stuff. It could continuously improve his physique and gradually bring him closer to becoming an Innate Being.
After placing several large bamboo barrels of fruit wine in the cellar, Wu Chu had Yueling stew the remaining chicken and mushrooms together with the Lingzhi in one pot.
Then Wu Chu entered the dreamscape once more and carefully experienced everything within his dreams.
He was beginning to suspect that these dreams were brought about by fragments of the True Spirits left behind in the world by the Purple Jade Daoist and that Azure Dragon.
Moreover, those True Spirit fragments might harbor ill intent toward him.
Otherwise, why was it that whenever he dreamed, he seemed to become them completely, only to be awakened in the end by those seemingly unreliable erotic scenes?
And if the lingering spirits of those two Innate Beings were truly taking the initiative to impart their teachings to him, they should not have omitted something as important as how to cultivate.
So he suspected that fragments of those two powerful beings' lingering True Spirits had entered his body and subconsciously concealed the methods of cultivation from him.
After all, only if he remained unable to grow stronger would the lingering True Spirits of those powerful beings have a chance to turn the tables and ultimately take over his body.
Wu Chu did not think this speculation was unreasonable. Otherwise, he had been dreaming for so long—why had he never had a single dream concerning cultivation?
Of course, it was also possible that after the deaths of those two great experts, all memories related to their cultivation had vanished. The lingering True Spirit fragments simply contained no memories on that subject.
But no matter which possibility was true, neither was good news for Wu Chu.
Without a cultivation inheritance, what could he do?
Could he really create one from nothing by himself?
Wu Chu did not think he was arrogant enough for that. If he had the ability to independently figure out a path of cultivation, he would already be a god. Why would he still be waiting around?
Although the cultivation environment in the Primordial World was countless times better than that of Earth, that did not mean one could ignore the fundamental laws of cultivation simply because the environment was more suitable!
Even so, the magical power within Wu Chu continued to increase day by day. Before, he could only gather a tiny flame; now, he could use it as a torch.
And so, on this day, night finally arrived in the Primordial World.
As the sun set, evening clouds filled the sky like scales of purple fish adorning the heavens. Weary birds returned to their nests, beasts returned to their valleys, and smoke curled upward beside the giant trees.
The weather forecast clearly said it would rain tomorrow, so why was there such a beautiful sunset?
Wu Chu muttered to himself, yet he still sat down with a cup in his hands, facing the lake breeze as he silently admired the rare sight.
One or two months of Earth time had already passed before he saw evening fall in this world, before he witnessed such a beautiful sunset. How could he let this fine moment and scenery go to waste?
They said the setting sun was infinitely beautiful, only that dusk came too soon. But in the Primordial World, there seemed to be no need for such regret, because sunset lasted a very long time for him.
At last, the long twilight ended and night truly descended. The calls of owls, the howls of wild beasts, and the crackling of the bonfire echoed through his world.
Wu Chu sat before the fire pit in the wooden house, his expression solemn. The bonfire flickered in the pit, sparks danced through the air, and his thoughts drifted restlessly along with them.
Nighttime was when mosquitoes came out. What was he supposed to do without mosquito coils?
"Brother A Chu, what's wrong?"
Little Moon Spirit did not understand Wu Chu's worries at all.
Wu Chu answered casually, "I was thinking about what we should do at night. What if a wild beast comes over and carries me away? Even without wild beasts, mosquitoes and insects are frightening!"
"..."
Little Moon Spirit stared at him with wide eyes, completely dumbfounded.
She truly could not imagine what there was to worry about.
Could Senior A Chu really be afraid of such tiny things?
"Look, we don't even have blankets. What if it gets cold at night... People say spring cold snaps are the hardest to guard against. The cold of spring nights is what catches people most off guard!"
"..."
To Little Moon Spirit, the problems mortals were about to face were not problems at all. She did not even know... "Brother A Chu, what is a blanket?"
"..."
This time, Wu Chu did not know how to explain it to Little Moon Spirit.
How could she understand the world of mortals?
