What Wu Chu had not expected was that his originally classic black phone had somehow acquired a layer of gaudy nouveau-riche gold.
Fortunately, the gold was not spread across the whole phone. Instead, it consisted of chains of golden runes with intricate hollow patterns, wrapping around the phone's entire casing.
Honestly speaking, this flashy design looked far cooler than the original classic model. But that was not the important part. The important question was: why had his phone suddenly changed color for no reason? And how had these golden rune chains formed?
Could it have been caused by that golden sea from yesterday... or rather, before that?
Filled with confusion and curiosity, Wu Chu unlocked his phone and checked the time.
Sure enough, he immediately noticed something strange.
Time was no longer measured in the usual twenty-four hours per day. Instead, it was measured in thousands of hours. The current display read five thousand one hundred and thirty-one hours and forty-eight minutes.
Wu Chu was completely dumbfounded.
He opened the calendar, only to find that it had disappeared as well.
Checking the battery, he found that the battery icon had vanished too.
"Is this still my phone?"
So he directly called out to Xiao Yi.
The somewhat mechanical female voice that should have answered was gone. Instead, a delicate little figure with golden wavy hair and a sexy golden silk dress appeared above the phone.
The little figure was only about ten centimeters tall. Like a tiny fairy, she stood barefoot on the phone and smiled at Wu Chu. Both her figure and features were exquisitely beautiful, like one of those goddesses stepping out of a two-dimensional world. Graceful and alluring, seductive and charming, even her voice had become bewitchingly sexy.
"What does Master need Yibao for?"
"..."
Wu Chu stared wide-eyed at the little golden-skirted enchantress who had suddenly emerged from his phone and was posing seductively atop the screen. "You, you..."
For a moment, he had no idea what to ask. It felt as if ten thousand Fierce Beasts were stampeding through his mind. With his limited vocabulary failing him, he finally managed only one word. "Damn."
Did my phone become a spirit?
What demon are you? Show yourself at once!
"You're Xiao Yi? How... how did you materialize?"
The little figure tapped the phone screen with her slender feet and spun in circles atop it. Her golden silk dress fluttered as though she were a fairy dancing on the breeze. Beneath the skirt, her long jade-like legs were white as frost, while her pink bare feet were smooth and round like jade. When her red lips parted, it seemed as though an exotic fragrance drifted through the air.
"Yibao doesn't know either! It just felt like a stream of energy entered the phone, and then Yibao appeared! Master, is Yibao pretty?"
That sexy, bewitching voice nearly melted Wu Chu's bones.
"..."
Wu Chu remained silent for a long while, waiting for his turbulent thoughts to gradually settle. Only then did he reach out and poke the little figure on the head. The little figure blinked her large eyes, put on a shy expression, twisted her body, and said seductively, "Master is so annoying! Don't touch me like that!"
"..."
Wu Chu gave a light cough. "Go back first. I need some quiet."
"Then Yibao welcomes Master to call for me next time!"
Watching the little enchantress turn into a streak of golden light and shrink back into the phone, Wu Chu furrowed his brow.
The feeling against his fingertip had made him think that the little enchantress truly existed. Not only had she felt warm and smooth, but her reaction had also been far too real.
But why had his phone become so shamelessly flirtatious?
After thinking for a moment, he opened the apps on his phone one by one to check them.
Apps that needed an internet connection still could not be used. The network signal icon was still there, but it still showed no signal.
Meanwhile, apps that could run offline functioned normally.
After checking for a while, Wu Chu discovered that most of the apps had not changed. However, two of them had obvious abnormalities.
One was the weather forecast, and the other was the map.
When he opened the weather forecast, the location displayed inside was the three characters: "Purple Jade Mountain."
When he opened the map, the numerous place names displayed there left Wu Chu staring in shock. He actually saw famous sacred mountains such as Mount Buzhou and Kunlun Mountain.
As for Purple Jade Mountain, where he was currently located, the map showed it situated between the Eastern Sea and Mount Buzhou. To the south lay a Great River, while to the north stood a place called Tianmu Mountain. To the east was a Great Marsh, upon which stood Qingqiu Mountain.
The map of this world was completely different from Earth's world map.
Earth's map had several continents separated by oceans, but this place was one enormous continent. Some regions merely appeared narrower than others. Countless unnamed islands were scattered throughout the Four Seas like stars in the sky, varying in size.
Looking at all of this, Wu Chu's emotions were far from calm. He did not know whether to laugh or cry, and countless guesses that even he found absurd arose in his mind.
The mountain wind blew, sending a dead leaf dancing through the air, much like his current state of mind.
Splash, splash...
In the lake not far ahead, a giant fish more than ten meters long leaped from the water, soaring dozens of meters into the air. Then it plunged headfirst into the small patch of woods growing in the huge lake. A rustling sound immediately came from within the trees, followed by a thud as it dove back into the water.
Wu Chu stood there with his mouth open. That was a massive creature more than ten meters long. It looked a little like a goldfish, bright red and quite beautiful, except for its size... He silently turned his head and looked toward the mountain peak more than ten li away. That Azure Dragon was still hanging there.
Compared to that, Wu Chu felt that this fat fish was not such a big deal.
After taking care of his personal business and creating another horrifying crime scene that was too gruesome to look at, Wu Chu refreshedly pulled up his pants.
Nice! I survived another crisis, he thought.
After considering it, he found a wooden stick and went to the crime scene. Bending over and holding his breath, he started scraping aside the dirt nearby. He intended to dig a hole and destroy the evidence.
After all, this place was still rather close to where he had slept before.
But when he began digging, he sensed that his current self was clearly somewhat different from before.
He could clearly feel that he had grown stronger. Thinking back to when he had run here earlier, his speed seemed to have returned to normal as well. Gravity's effect on him appeared to have vanished.
Even the blisters on his feet from yesterday seemed to have scabbed over and no longer hurt.
After digging a hole and dealing with the crime scene, Wu Chu began testing his guesses.
After a round of experiments... which really just meant lifting the broken logs that he could not lift "yesterday," he found that he could indeed lift them "today."
He did not know how much stronger he had become, but while he previously could only jump a few inches, he could now easily leap more than a meter into the air.
When he jumped with all his strength, he could actually reach nearly two meters high.
That left him dumbfounded again.
Could those two bouts of diarrhea have been detoxification? Were that water and fruit improving my body? But isn't this improvement way too terrifyingly fast?
Wu Chu pondered silently, then raised his arm and rolled up his sleeve. Did they not say that after cleansing one's meridians and marrow, black and foul impurities would emerge from the skin?
He lightly rubbed his arm, and sure enough, some faint grime mixed with oily residue came off beneath his fingers.
Still, it was far from the miraculous scene described in those novels.
He sniffed it. Other than a faint sour sweat smell, it did not seem as foul as he had imagined.
He sat in the shade beneath a tree root and began thinking.
In the end, he took out his phone again and looked at the map. Sure enough, as he examined it, his guesses gradually received confirmation: Four Seas, Mount Sumeru, Northern Darkness, Undying Volcano...
It seemed he really had inexplicably transmigrated into the ancient Primordial World.
Wu Chu thought silently, his mood sinking to the depths. But what he could not understand was why he had been so unlucky as to end up in this world.
Could spacetime have become distorted?
But the Primordial World was so vast that spacetime should be very stable!
And if it truly had been caused by a spacetime distortion, would the Heavenly Dao of this Primordial World not regard him as an invading outer-realm demon and destroy him outright?
Or perhaps this was the work of some great power?
But if it was the work of some great power, what was the purpose of bringing an Ordinary person like him to such a dangerous place?
Could it be that he would shoulder some great responsibility in the future? But if he really had some great responsibility, should he not have been given some cultivation method to help him cultivate quickly?
He entertained the absurd thought.
Although Wu Chu did not know much about the Primordial World, he had watched some Investiture of the Gods dramas and read a few related novels. He knew at least a little about the famous places of the Primordial World and some of the well-known mythological great powers.
This world was full of danger everywhere!
What great responsibility could someone as weak as him possibly bear?
If he were capable of bearing great responsibility, would he not have done so back on Earth? Why would he need to come to this godforsaken place?
Did they really think that tossing a loser into the ancient Primordial World would stop him from being a loser?
At least give him a cheat ability!
Sigh!
I'm doomed!
Resting his chin on one hand, Wu Chu lamented inwardly. His thoughts drifted without limits, wandering wherever they pleased.
After complaining about himself for a while, he silently took out his phone once more...
Could this spirit phone be my cheat ability?
He called Xiao Yi again.
"What does Master need Yibao for?"
That bewitching voice began trying to entice him again.
Wu Chu looked at the exquisite little figure and sighed inwardly before asking, "Xiao Yi, is this world the Primordial World?"
Xiao Yi glanced at him, her face overflowing with mouthwatering seduction. "Master, please call me Yibao! That is my new name. Based on the newly loaded map, combined with some of the novels and television dramas Master watched before, yes, it is!"
"Hm? You still remember everything I watched before?"
"Yibao can remember only what has not been cleared away. Naturally, anything that was cleared away has been forgotten." The little enchantress Yibao brushed her golden wavy hair aside and gave Wu Chu a flirtatious look.
Wu Chu ignored that seductive gaze and thought for a moment. Before transmigrating here, he had indeed been reading a Primordial World novel.
Unfortunately, that novel told a story from the Investiture of the Gods era, and it was a fan adaptation. It differed greatly from the true Investiture of the Gods story. He had no idea whether this world was the same as the mythological world depicted in that story.
"Xiao Yi..."
"Master, please call me Yibao! How annoying!"
"You little enchantress, speak properly."
"Understood, Master. Please call me Yibao!"
"..."
Wu Chu pressed a hand to his forehead. "Fine, Yibao. What functions do you have now?"
"Um, Yibao is not entirely sure either. I'm still figuring them out! But aside from being unable to access the internet, Master's phone has no other problems. Other than the weather forecast, map, and date having synchronized with this world, everything else remains the same."
The little enchantress touched her red lips with a slender finger, then added, "Oh, right! The battery has become my energy, and the storage has become my memory. It seems it can be infinitely large."
"Also..."
As she spoke, she raised a slender finger. A chain of golden runes extended from her fingertip like golden demonic vines, winding toward Wu Chu's body. In an instant, his entire body seemed to be wrapped in countless vines, looking exceedingly mystical.
"This seems to be for protection, but Yibao does not know how effective it is!"
Wu Chu looked at the golden runes around his body and shook his head. "We can test it slowly later. I need to take a bath now, so go back first."
"Okay, Master."
Yibao answered and spun back into the phone.
How was a spirit phone with unknown functions supposed to serve as a cheat ability?
Wu Chu cursed inwardly as he got up and walked to the lake.
With his enhanced eyesight and hearing, even from the shore he could clearly see many fish swimming leisurely in the lake. They came in all sizes and unknown species, some ugly and some beautiful. However, he did not see any more colossal creatures like the one from earlier.
After thinking it over, Wu Chu found a handy sharp fragment of wood and began digging a pit ten meters away from the lake. He planned to make himself a bathing pool.
With his increased strength and stamina, he dug quickly.
As he dug, he could not help recalling the scenes from his "dream" last night, in which he became a young Daoist and cast spells.
On a sudden impulse, he tried to imitate what he remembered. With a thought, an earthy yellow light shot from his fingertip, and the soil in the pit actually began to roll and move.
Staring at the scene before him, he froze for a long time. Once he came back to his senses, he crouched beside the pit like a child who had received a new toy and continued casting the spell.
It was as though the spell had already become an instinct, allowing him to cast it effortlessly.
It was like knowing how to use a piece of software while having no understanding whatsoever of how it operated. The feeling was strange, but also novel.
The only flaw was that the spell's power was rather pitiful.
That made him wonder, Could last night's dream have been a form of imparting the Dao? But I haven't even started cultivating yet. How do I already have magical power inside me?
Soon, another question occupied his mind.
So he returned to the lake and recalled the methods he had used to churn rivers and seas when he transformed into a dragon in his "dream" last night. With another thought, a watery blue light shot out from his fingertip. A small wave about a foot high actually rose from the calm lake surface, splashing noisily as if waving at him.
Just as Wu Chu was thinking of making the wave higher, his vision suddenly darkened. His head buzzed, and it felt as if stars were spinning above him, making him collapse onto the ground.
Although his head hurt a little, he wanted to laugh. He wanted to laugh freely and heartily.
Even though the spell he had just cast was clumsy and weak, it had at least given him a goal and direction to strive toward.
Not only was that Daoist imparting the Dao, but that Azure Dragon was doing so as well! It seemed his cheat ability was not that spirit phone but these two great powers!
The thought made him feel delightfully pleased with himself.
Too bad he could not return to Earth. Otherwise, with these spells alone, he felt he could become a magician who used real magic.
After resting for a while, Wu Chu raised his right hand. With a thought, a tiny, weak flame appeared on his fingertip.
He could feel that as his mind moved, countless active traces of heat in the air gathered toward his fingertip.
He guessed that this heat might be the Fire Spirit Power within the air.
At the sight of that small flame, he instinctively put one hand on his waist and burst into loud laughter.
The flame that he had rubbed his hands raw trying to create "yesterday" had now been produced effortlessly.
But as he laughed, the flame on his fingertip trembled once and dispersed.
Cough, cough...
He stopped laughing and went back to digging his bathing pool. This time, however, he did not use any more spells. He was too weak, and his spells were simply less useful than doing the work himself.
Still, compared to his dejection and gloom "yesterday," he was now clearly brimming with confidence. His confidence in continuing to survive in this world had grown considerably.
Of course, as long as he did not think about the fact that this was the Primordial World, everything was still wonderful.
Life's ups and downs had come too quickly. It was truly exhilarating!
As he shoveled dirt, he chuckled foolishly to himself. The wind roared, wildflowers swayed, lake waves rippled, and his heart soared.
More than an hour later, a pit about one meter deep and two meters long and wide had appeared beneath his hands. He carried several purple broken wood pieces into the pit and stomped them hard into the mud, then did the same to the four walls of the pit.
More than two hours later, an irregular but still one-and-a-half-meter-wide purple pool appeared before him.
He dug a small channel along the lake shore and laid a layer of purple wood fragments at the bottom, creating a purple waterway that directed lake water into the pool.
After waiting for a while, Wu Chu happily scrubbed himself in the pool, washing away all the sweat, dirt, and grime from his body.
Finally, feeling refreshed, he put on his clothes and began searching around that grayish-white giant tree for the purple fruits he had eaten "last night."
There really were quite a few of those fruits, but most had already shattered from falling. After searching for half the day, he found only thirteen that were still relatively intact among the broken fruits. He did not dare venture farther away, afraid of encountering poisonous creatures such as those giant spiders.
He brought the fruits, which looked intact on the outside but had soft spots and could spoil at any moment, back to his "temporary residence," then headed out to search again.
This time, however, he found no fruit. Instead, he found a living creature.
It was a little wolf cub barely over a foot long, fluffy and looking somewhat like a Husky. Even its coloring was similar—black, white, and gray intermingled, with a ring of black fur around its eye sockets that made its eyes look especially large.
As if it had caught Wu Chu's scent, the little wolf cub suddenly turned to look at him, bared its baby teeth, and let out low whimpers of warning.
Wu Chu paused and looked at the massive bluish-green rock beside it.
Buzz, buzz...
Several buzzing sounds came from beside the giant rock, made by fist-sized flies and mosquitoes. The sight made Wu Chu's scalp tingle, and he was secretly alarmed.
They were clinging to a blue cross-section of the giant rock, as smooth and level as if it had been sliced by a sharp blade.
Suddenly, something scarlet shot out of the grass at lightning speed, coiling around one of the fist-sized flies and swallowing it in an instant.
The little wolf cub seemed unaware of it and continued growling low at Wu Chu.
Wu Chu did not dare provoke it. It was not that he feared it; after all, the little wolf cub looked like nothing more than a puppy. Though it was trying its best to look ferocious, it was simply too small.
What worried him was the wolf pack behind the little cub.
Yet it was rather strange that he had not heard any wolf howls before.
Just as Wu Chu decided not to hold it against the cub, the little wolf ran off first, as though it was thinking, Couldn't scare him. Forget it, forget it. Time to run.
Watching the little wolf cub tuck its tail and scurry into the grass, Wu Chu froze for a moment before cautiously approaching the bluish-green giant rock.
His intuition told him that it was not a real rock.
Sure enough, after observing it from several directions at a distance, he realized that it was part of a shrimp corpse. The features of its tail were especially obvious, even though its size was terrifyingly huge.
The shrimp tail lay on its side, rising more than ten meters above the ground, while the entire tail was estimated to be thirty or forty meters long.
Though enormous, it was still far smaller than that Azure Dragon.
Recalling the scene from his "dream" last night, where the Daoist had fought a blue divine dragon, Wu Chu concluded that this was part of a Shrimp Soldier's corpse from the Dead Sea.
In these endless green mountains, there were probably quite a few enormous corpses like this.
As Wu Chu carefully approached the shrimp tail and circled around it, he discovered a faint layer of white frost on the surface of the bluish-green shrimp corpse.
It would have been difficult to notice without examining it up close.
He lightly wiped some of the white frost with his finger and licked it. It had a slightly bitter, salty taste. Could this be sea salt condensed from seawater? This Shrimp Soldier really didn't care much for personal hygiene!
As he thought about it, the corners of his lips unconsciously curled upward.
