Sunlight bathed the earth, casting dappled patterns through the branches and leaves and scattering shimmering scales across the lake. The shadow of the towering tree stretched over the great lake like a massive black python.
Beneath that shadow, large fish could be seen swimming about. Every so often, they broke the surface and mercilessly glared at the person scrubbing himself by the shore with eyes as huge as lanterns.
When Wu Chu had first crossed over, after his physique began changing and impurities were expelled from his body, there had not been much black gunk on his skin.
Because of that, he had even felt that the various descriptions in novels and television dramas were somewhat exaggerated, nothing but nonsense made up by writers.
After all, it was art! A little exaggeration was unavoidable and understandable.
But now, seeing this layer of black matter plastered all over his body, he no longer dared laugh at others. Those who laughed at others would eventually be laughed at themselves—the ancients had not deceived him.
Yibao had even laughed at how he looked like a black-skinned person.
Still, he was not surprised by this change. He had watched his body transform with his own eyes and understood every strange marvel that occurred as the cells within him divided.
Although Little Moon Spirit did not know what the Innate Realm was, Wu Chu knew that his current state should be the Innate Realm.
Though he still did not know what marked the Earth Immortal Realm, he believed that, with his current physique, his lifespan would definitely be more than "a hundred days."
That Wild Mountain Ginseng had not gone to waste after all.
"Little Moon Spirit, toss me another bar of soap!"
Standing in the bathing pool and scrubbing himself, Wu Chu felt that no matter how hard he scrubbed, he could not get clean. The water in the pool had already turned black.
"A Chu, I think you should wash in the lake instead!"
Though Little Moon Spirit's suggestion was perfectly reasonable and her expression calm and natural, Wu Chu somehow felt that the little girl was clearly mocking him.
Wu Chu gave a light cough and replied, "Ah! Little Moon Spirit, that is where you are mistaken! You do not know how harmful soapy water is to the fish in the lake. A person like me fears harming ants when sweeping the ground and shields moths from lamps... Ah! Where did this mosquito come from? Get lost!"
Slap...
Wu Chu casually swatted, sending a mosquito the size of a fist flying toward the lake. Yet it ended up splattered directly onto his hand. There was no blood, but it was rather disgusting.
Little Moon Spirit blinked, her tiny mouth hanging open as she had no idea what to say.
Yibao, sprawled across a golden sofa floating in midair, rolled her eyes at him. People who lied with their eyes wide open must be exactly like this!
The next moment, a yellow bar of soap slowly floated before him. Wu Chu did not dare catch it with his hand, but a splash rose from the bathing pool and wrapped around the soap. Then, like a hand, the splash held the soap and rubbed it over his body. He had already crushed two bars of soap before this; this was the best solution he could think of.
The changes brought by this physical transformation had caused his strength to surge. The increase was even greater than the previous two times, and he had no idea how long it would take to adapt this time.
"Yueling, how long did I spend cultivating this time?"
He did not look at his phone. It displayed no date, only the time.
"More than three days!" Little Moon Spirit said with a smile. "But A Chu, your changes this time were much greater than the last two. Why not go test yourself later and see whether you can slay a dragon?!"
As she spoke, the little girl could not help licking her soft pink lips.
What a foodie!
Yibao could not help glancing sideways at Little Moon Spirit again.
"Three days? Th... three days?"
Wu Chu suddenly realized that three days in this world equaled three years of Earth time.
He looked at his long hair, then touched his face. His hair was more than four chi long, while his beard had grown into a half-chi-long mass. No matter how he looked at it, he resembled a wild man.
"What is it?"
"Nothing. I just think my hair and beard have gotten really long."
"Mm, this 'Ordinary Illness' of yours really is quite strange, A Chu! It has only been three days, yet the hair on your body has grown so quickly!"
"..."
Hearing that, Wu Chu did not know how to respond. That was not an easy jab to make.
Yibao, meanwhile, lay sprawled across the tiny sofa, laughing so hard that she repeatedly pounded it. Little Moon Spirit was utterly baffled, unable to understand where the joke in her words was.
Wu Chu gave Yibao a sidelong glance. He understood the joke, but he did not explain it. He merely asked, "Little Moon Spirit, can you do me a favor?"
"What does A Chu want me to help with?"
"Help me shave my beard. I cannot control my strength very well, and I am afraid I might cut myself."
"I'll do it, I'll do it..."
Yibao, who had been lying nearby watching the show, immediately snatched the job.
"You... can you even do it? That kitchen knife is longer than your whole body." Wu Chu eyed the excited Yibao. "You are not plotting something, are you?"
"You are awful! Is that really the kind of person I am in your eyes, someone who only knows how to play tricks?" Carrying a huge kitchen knife longer than her body, Yibao stomped her little feet in protest.
"But shaving a beard is not exactly fun."
"Even if it is not fun, I am your wife! How can you trouble Little Moon Spirit with something like this? She is not your wife."
"I can be A Chu's wife too!" Little Moon Spirit said with smiling crescent eyes, making Wu Chu cough repeatedly as the corners of his lips and brows twitched.
"Little Moon Spirit, do you know what 'wife' means?" Yibao rolled her eyes at Little Moon Spirit, looking down on her.
Little Moon Spirit said seriously, "Did you not say that a wife is a dao companion? I count as A Chu's dao companion too! Why can't I be?"
"Then do you know the difference between a 'wife' and a 'dao companion'?" With one hand on her slim waist and the kitchen knife in the other, Yibao raised her little chin at Little Moon Spirit.
"What is the difference?"
"There is..."
Yibao opened her mouth, but could not continue. She could not fulfill those differences herself, either. She was so tiny—how could she perform a wife's duties?
"Enough, stop making a fuss. It is only shaving a beard. Why so much nonsense?"
Wu Chu coughed lightly, breaking the awkward silence.
He did not want to think about wives anymore. In this Primordial World, he should focus on how to live longer! He could not fail to last even one year in the Primordial World.
After all, one year in the Primordial World was equivalent to more than three hundred and sixty years of Earth time! How could an ordinary person possibly live that long?
What he needed to do now was strive to raise his life level beyond that of an ordinary mortal. In truth, he had already achieved that.
But even if he had, his lifespan was probably still not very long. Perhaps by the time that old Daoist Ran Deng came looking for revenge in the future, he would already be buried and at peace.
Thinking about it really was rather melancholy!
Wu Chu tilted his head back and silently pondered. As he thought, he began to smile. Perhaps when old Daoist Ran Deng saw that the person he wanted revenge on had already died of old age, he would be so furious that he stomped his feet!
Just imagining old Daoist Ran Deng unable to stop himself from stomping his feet made Wu Chu laugh with delight.
