The azure dragon's head hung limply from the mountainside, slightly tilted, its face ferocious. A pair of white antlers rose from its head, giving it a fierce and imposing appearance. Its mouth was slightly open, its sharp teeth like saw blades, each nearly the height of a person. A long tongue drooped beside those serrated teeth, its crimson, rough coating covered in layers of backward-facing hooks. Pressing a hand against those hooks gave one a terrifying sense of sharpness.
Its golden dragon eyes were wide open, their cross-shaped pupils cold and merciless. Yet those eyes that remained open even in death also conveyed an air of dying with unresolved resentment.
Two dragon whiskers drooped from either side of its lips, their length impossible to determine, now long hidden beneath newly grown weeds. Crimson Dragon Blood flowed from the corners of its mouth, running down the slope in a blood-red stream. Although a long time had passed—perhaps ten or twenty years by Earth's reckoning—the stream still seemed as fresh as ever. That vivid Dragon Blood appeared not to have dried at all, as though it had only appeared yesterday.
Wu Chu picked up a small branch and cautiously touched the paste-like Dragon Blood. Sure enough, only its surface had congealed; underneath, it remained as fresh as ever.
Still, this should count as blood from a wound. It probably could not be eaten.
Standing before that enormous, ferocious dragon head, Wu Chu realized that he was not even as big as one of its incisors. Those sharp dragon teeth gleamed with an eerie chill beneath the sunlight.
The blazing sun hung high overhead, while a gentle mountain breeze stirred his hair. It made his back feel faintly cold. When he reached back to touch it, he discovered that his clothes were already soaked through with sweat.
He had not felt that the dragon corpse retained any lingering might before, but now that he stood directly before it and faced it head-on, Wu Chu discovered that his legs were trembling slightly.
Even after a dragon died, its lingering might remained. At this moment, he truly understood the meaning of those words.
Of course, this was not Dragon Might felt on a spiritual level. Rather, it was a kind of psychological suggestion formed after that appearance had been imprinted in his mind.
It was like seeing a tiger. Even if one knew it was dead, standing before it still made one worry that it might suddenly come back to life.
Clearly, people could not defeat tigers. Wu Chu also knew perfectly well that if this Azure Dragon were still alive, even a sneeze could probably blast him a hundred and eight thousand miles away.
So even though he knew the Azure Dragon had long been thoroughly dead, the thought of personally cutting off that limp dragon tongue still made Wu Chu's scalp tingle.
"Yibao, you didn't lie to me, did you? Can I really cut through its tongue?"
Wu Chu squeezed the handle of his cleaver, his brow twitching slightly as he gestured back and forth. It did not seem easy to make the cut. Should he cut through the middle, or climb inside and sever it at the root?
"When have I ever lied to you?"
Yibao asked indignantly, hands on her hips.
Wu Chu fell silent for a moment before asking, "Can you prop its mouth open?"
Yibao was speechless. "What do you think? I'm not even big enough to fill a gap between its teeth."
Wu Chu glanced at her, then finally pulled out his phone. "Aren't you a Merit Spiritual Treasure? You can keep growing larger, right? Then use this to prop it open. That should work, shouldn't it?"
"..."
"If you're not saying anything, then there's no problem." Wu Chu chuckled and shoved the hand holding his phone into the dragon's slightly open mouth. Then he called out, "Bigger, bigger, bigger..."
As a result, the phone did not change at all. Wu Chu silently looked at Yibao.
Yibao ground her little silver teeth. "Are you stupid? This dragon tongue must be at least dozens, maybe even hundreds of meters long! If you cut off the whole thing, can you even drag it back?"
"Uh! That makes so much sense."
Wu Chu scratched his head and looked up at the massive dragon head. Thinking about it, the entire Azure Dragon had to be at least two or three thousand meters long. For such an enormous creature... just this dragon tongue alone could probably feed them for a very long time!
At that thought, Wu Chu unconsciously licked his lips, just like Little Moon Spirit had.
He then raised his cleaver and gestured over the dragon tongue several times. The section hanging out of the dragon's mouth alone was at least thirty or forty meters long, while the part resting on the ground was around three or four meters long. He probably could not carry back even the section on the ground, much less the entire tongue.
After finding an angle where he could exert force properly, Wu Chu gestured with the cleaver a few more times. Then he suddenly raised it and slashed down at the hook-covered dragon tongue. The sensation of the cleaver striking it made Wu Chu's brow furrow tightly.
The dragon tongue was far tougher than he had imagined. He gave an awkward smile, gritted his teeth, and raised the cleaver again. Then he struck down with all his strength. This time, he achieved something: the cleaver lodged directly in one of the barbs, sinking more than three inches into it.
Wu Chu rocked the cleaver up and down several times before pulling it free again.
"A little tough, but it's not impossible to cut through. It'll just take some time." Wu Chu sounded as though he were speaking to Yibao, yet also as though he were talking to himself.
Yibao floated in the air. "It's fine. You can chop slowly. There's no rush."
Wu Chu silently rolled his eyes, then raised the cleaver again and brought it down while wrapping it in mana. The effect was noticeably better than relying on brute strength alone.
And so, chopping and resting in turns, several hours passed. He used mana to block the splashing Dragon Blood, not daring to let it touch his body.
He worried that the Dragon Blood might be too overbearing. After all, this was a divine dragon at the Golden Immortal level. Whether Golden Immortal-level Dragon Blood would aggressively invade his body's cells and cause mutations was impossible to say. It was better to be cautious.
Once Little Moon Spirit was beside him, he could try experimenting with it.
However, Wu Chu never expected that this awe-inspiring act of dragon slaying would turn into butchering meat, something that would make people laugh if he told them about it.
Fortunately, time in this world was not worth much, and there were no outsiders here. He could take things slowly without worrying about being laughed at... Well, Yibao was not a person.
At last, after more than ten hours, Wu Chu managed to chop two chunks of meat from the dragon tongue, each weighing roughly two or three hundred jin. He tied them up with grass vines and carried them home.
Yibao followed behind him, covering her mouth and giggling from time to time. Her laughter made Wu Chu want to grab her and spank her little butt, so she would learn the consequences of laughing at her master.
Fortunately, when Little Moon Spirit saw him return carrying two bloody chunks of meat, her delighted, admiring expression soothed his wounded heart wonderfully.
"So I didn't do all this for nothing! Dear Yueling, come, let A Chu give you a hug!"
"..."
Little Moon Spirit was clearly not used to Wu Chu's inexplicable enthusiasm. Yibao, meanwhile, rolled her eyes so hard that she silently slipped back into the phone. Who knew whether she had gone inside to sulk or whether she had truly developed a conscience.
Back at the little wooden house by the lake, Wu Chu handed the two pieces of dragon tongue to Little Moon Spirit to prepare. He then ran to the bathing pool to wash away his rank sweat.
