Background / History

The Ancient Clan was one of the seven remaining Dou God Clans after the disappearance of Dou Gods and the gradual decline of their inherited bloodlines. Unlike several other clans, its bloodline had not yet shown signs of exhaustion, having annexed the Xiao Clan's final foundation in the past 1.

It was regarded as the strongest openly known clan on the Dou Qi Continent and held authority over much of the Central Plains' Eastern Region. Many regional factions identified themselves as Ancient Clan subsidiaries, while people in remote areas treated the clan almost as divine beings 153.

The clan's long-standing supremacy was challenged when it went to war with the Thunder and Flame Clans. Over three months, it suffered repeated defeats, lost a One-Star Dou Sheng, and ceded a border city to the Thunder Legion 136. Gu Yuan later recognized that the Thunder Clan was no longer the same faction it had been a millennium earlier 139.

During the wider conflict with the Soul Clan, Elder Gu Yang was exposed as a Soul Clan infiltrator after injuring ancestral-hall elders and stealing the Ancient Clan's piece of Tou She Ancient God's Jade 254. The clan ultimately fell to the Soul Clan, although the attackers also sustained substantial losses 261.

Territory and Organization

• Ancient Realm — The clan's hidden realm in the Eastern Region of the Central Plains; its energy density is roughly comparable to that of the Thunder Realm 153 155.

Bloodline and Clan Patterns

The Ancient Clan places exceptional importance on inherited bloodline grade. Its Coming-of-Age Ceremony uses the Star Disc to test bloodlines and awards Clan Patterns accordingly 156.

• Gu Xun'er possessed a Divine Grade Bloodline and received a Seven-Colored Dou God Clan Pattern, prompting clan-wide reverence 156.
• Gu Xin demonstrated a Seventh-Grade Bloodline and Early Six-Star Dou Venerate cultivation during the ceremony 155.
• Gu Qingyang was among the clan's foremost younger-generation prodigies and was second only to Gu Xun'er in bloodline standing before his defeat by Lei Qi 70 156.

Story Role / Major Arcs

Monitoring the Thunder Clan

The Ancient Clan monitored the movements of other major factions across the Central Plains. Its elders initially considered the Thunder Clan's activity insignificant or attributed it to the clan's supposedly simple-minded temperament, but Gu Yuan ordered continued surveillance after recognizing the Thunder Clan's unusual growth 100 121.

Falling Star Pavilion Intervention

Xun'er, Tong Xuan, a Half-Saint elder, the Black Annihilation Army, and numerous Dou Venerates intervened when the Hall of Souls attacked Falling Star Pavilion. Their arrival crushed the invading force and compelled the Hall of Souls to retreat 132.

The intervention was motivated not only by Xun'er's connection to Xiao Yan, but also by the Ancient Clan's concern that the Tou She Ancient God Jade associated with the Xiao Clan might fall into Soul Clan hands 132.

War with the Thunder Clan

After Gu Xin's confrontation with Lei Qi and Mang Tianchi's attack on her, Gu Yi demanded an explanation from Lei Ying. Lei Ying rejected the demand and openly declared that the Thunder Clan would accept war 135.

The Flame Clan ultimately sided with the Thunder Clan. The resulting three-month conflict saw the Ancient Clan repeatedly driven back, lose a Dou Sheng, and forfeit a major border city 136.

Marriage Negotiations and the Heavenly Tomb

Seeking to improve relations and gain leverage against the Soul Clan, the Ancient Clan considered a marriage alliance with Lei Qi. Although the initial proposal named Gu Xin, the elders also discussed Gu Xun'er as a possible alternative 157.

The clan later arranged Gu Xin's political marriage to Lei Qi despite her objections, treating the alliance as a matter of clan interest 158.

Collapse During the Soul Clan War

When the Soul Clan attacked multiple clans, the Ancient Clan mobilized its elders and defensive formations. Gu Yuan personally confronted Hun Tiandi, but Gu Yang's betrayal allowed the Soul Clan to steal the Ancient Clan's Jade and withdraw after achieving its objective 253 254.

The Ancient Clan then entered an alliance framework with the Thunder and Yao Clans against the Soul Clan. Its eventual destruction nevertheless left the Soul Clan with its foundation as a resource for recovery 256 261.
