Zhang Fei did not answer immediately. His gaze passed over the layered canopy, toward the deeper reaches of Sunset Forest.
The Ice and Fire Yin Yang Well lay deep within Sunset Forest, surrounded by a layer of poisonous miasma laid down by Dugu Bo. Unless one was at the level of a Titled Douluo, it would be difficult to pass through.
Right now, a genuine Titled Douluo was standing beside him—and he was his grandfather. If he missed this chance, it would be hard to find another excuse to come out after returning.
The earlier one consumed immortal herbs, the better their effects.
Even if he ran into Dugu Bo and exposed his identity, it would be worth it.
Besides, Dugu Bo probably could not beat She Long. At worst, they could just take it by force.
Having made up his mind, Zhang Fei gave She Long a flattering smile. "Grandpa, how about... you take me to have a look deeper inside Sunset Forest?"
She Long froze for a moment, his brows drawing together. "Deeper inside? Didn't I tell you earlier? The farther in you go, the older the soul beasts get. There are plenty that are thousands or even tens of thousands of years old. What are you going there for? Looking for trouble?"
"No, no." Zhang Fei hurriedly waved his hands. "I saw an ancient book in the library of the Crown Prince's Residence. It said there was a treasure land deep within Sunset Forest, covered by a layer of highly poisonous miasma. Unless one was a powerhouse at the level of a Titled Douluo, no one could enter."
She Long's frown deepened. "What kind of nonsense books have you been reading? What treasure land could there possibly be in Sunset Forest? It was probably some bastard making things up."
"It's real!" Zhang Fei said without so much as a blush, his tone certain. "We're already here anyway, so let's just detour and take a look. It won't take much time. What if there really is something there? Wouldn't that be a win?"
She Long still refused to budge, shaking his head. "Nonsense. Even I can't guarantee absolute safety in the depths of the forest."
Seeing reason would not work, Zhang Fei immediately changed tactics.
The corner of his mouth curled slightly as he deliberately provoked him. "Grandpa, are you scared?"
"Scared?" She Long raised a brow. "What do I have to be scared of? I'm a Titled Douluo. What could I possibly fear?"
"Then that settles it." Zhang Fei spread his hands. "You're a mighty level ninety-two assault-type Titled Douluo. What is there to worry about if you just take a stroll around? If we really can't win, you can just grab me and run."
She Long was left speechless. He raised a hand and rubbed his temples. "Fine, fine. I think you've just been cooped up in the Crown Prince's Residence for the past three years. Now that you finally got out, you want to use the chance to wander around a little more. Why didn't you just say so? You had to make up some nonsense about an ancient book and a treasure land to fool me."
Zhang Fei chuckled. "So Grandpa agrees?"
"I agree, I agree. But let's make this clear first." She Long put on a stern expression. "The depths of the forest are full of danger. Once we get there, you stay obediently behind me. You are not allowed to move more than three steps away from me. Understood?"
"Understood!" Zhang Fei snapped his heels together and straightened his back in a salute. "Don't worry, Grandpa. I definitely won't run around, and I definitely won't cause trouble!"
He was ecstatic inside. Ice and Fire Yin Yang Well, immortal herbs, here I come.
"Enough, enough." She Long scooped Zhang Fei up and tucked him under his arm. "Hold on tight. We're going."
Before Zhang Fei could react, She Long's figure blurred. The two shot into the air, weaving through gaps in the forest canopy as they sped straight toward the heart of Sunset Forest.
The two spent another five days wandering through the depths of Sunset Forest.
Over those five days, She Long's patience visibly drained away, and his expression grew darker by the day. Every day, he asked the same question: "Which direction is that treasure land supposed to be in? How much farther?"
Zhang Fei's answer was always the same four words: "Almost there, almost there."
In truth, he had no idea either.
He only knew that the Ice and Fire Yin Yang Well was somewhere deep within Sunset Forest. As for its exact location, how the hell would he know?
She Long had been led around by him for five days, and his face had already turned black as the bottom of a pot. Zhang Fei could only grit his teeth and keep playing dumb.
It was not until the afternoon of the fifth day, when She Long's patience was about to run out and he was just about to say, "Forget it, let's go back," that something strange suddenly appeared ahead.
About two li away, the colors among the trees became bizarre.
A faint, fishy-sweet scent drifted through the air, making one's scalp tingle.
"Grandpa, look! Poisonous miasma!" Zhang Fei suddenly pointed in that direction, unable to suppress the excitement in his voice. "I told you I was right! It really exists!"
She Long had noticed it long ago.
He narrowed his eyes at the patch of blue-purple fog, and the impatience on his face was replaced by surprise. "You were actually right... There really is a patch of poisonous miasma in this cursed place."
Zhang Fei chuckled but said nothing, his mind rapidly calculating.
The Ice and Fire Yin Yang Well should be inside that poisonous miasma. The question now was whether Dugu Bo was in there.
That old poison freak, Dugu Bo, spent all year holed up inside, using the Ice and Fire Yin Yang Well to suppress the backlash of the toxins in his body. Under normal circumstances, he would not leave easily.
But even if he was there, Zhang Fei was not all that worried.
Although Dugu Bo was also a Titled Douluo, She Long followed a dual-attribute poison and lightning path, giving him a natural advantage against toxins.
That was also why Spirit Hall had sent She Long and Porcupinefish to Heaven Dou City to assist Qian Renxue. One countered poison, while the other devoured poison. The two had been stationed there precisely to prevent Dugu Bo, that ticking time bomb, from causing trouble.
If the two really fought, She Long might not be able to defeat Dugu Bo in a short time, but he would have more than enough ability to protect himself.
Even if he could not fight freely while burdened with Zhang Fei, they could simply turn around and head back to Heaven Dou City to bring Porcupinefish Douluo over as well. With two against one, their odds of winning would be extremely high.
The only hidden danger was exposing himself.
Once Dugu Bo saw his face and found his relationship with She Long suspicious, he would no longer be able to remain by the little angel's side.
But Zhang Fei could no longer worry about such things. The immortal herbs of the Ice and Fire Yin Yang Well could be called the greatest opportunity on the entire Douluo Continent. If he missed it, who knew how long he would have to wait for another chance.
At worst, after being exposed, he could just return to Spirit City and hide. He had to go back sooner or later anyway.
As Zhang Fei was thinking all sorts of random thoughts, She Long suddenly lifted him and placed him on the branch of an ancient tree. Lowering his voice, he said, "That poisonous miasma isn't right. It doesn't look naturally formed. I'll go over and check the situation first. You stay here obediently and don't move. You're not allowed to go anywhere, understand?"
Zhang Fei obediently nodded, wrapping both arms around the tree trunk as he watched the poisonous miasma from afar.
She Long straightened up. A blue-purple Serpent Spear silently materialized in his hand, while nine soul rings slowly rose beneath his feet: yellow, yellow, purple, purple, purple, black, black, black, black.
With spear in hand, he strode forward. After several leaps, he arrived at the edge of the poisonous miasma and began inspecting it carefully.
Before long, movement came from within the miasma. A figure slowly emerged from the depths of the fog.
The man wore a grayish-green fitted robe. He was tall and thin, with an aged, withered face, deeply sunken eye sockets, and a pair of eyes glinting with sinister light.
He was none other than the Poison Douluo, Dugu Bo.
The most famous "Poison King" on the entire Douluo Continent, and probably the most miserable Titled Douluo as well.
Even he could not suppress the deadly poison in his own body. Every moment, he had to struggle against the toxins within him, living as though walking on thin ice.
Zhang Fei observed him from afar and muttered inwardly, That old poison freak really is here. Looks like this won't end peacefully today.
