Background / History

Tang San grew up in Holy Soul Village as the son of Tang Hao. At the martial soul awakening ceremony, he was an innocent and enthusiastic six-year-old who eagerly approached Lin Chen and suggested that they awaken together. He possessed innate full soul power and twin martial souls: Blue Silver Grass and a concealed hammer martial soul. 1 10

After traveling with Lin Chen to enroll at Nuoding Academy, Tang San increasingly felt excluded by Lin Chen's closeness with Xiao Wu. His jealousy and desire to overcome the twenty-rank gap between his own innate soul power and Lin Chen's drove him to seek guidance from Yu Xiaogang. He formally became Yu Xiaogang's disciple, hoping to strengthen himself and eventually catch up to Lin Chen. 7 10

Yu Xiaogang took Tang San to Spirit Hunting Forest to obtain a suitable first soul ring, originally targeting a Mandala Snake. The hunt went wrong when Tang San was attacked by a Lone Bamboo and involuntarily absorbed its ten-year spirit ring. Although disappointed by the poor-quality ring, he remained determined not to be defeated by this setback. 11 12

Personality

Tang San is outwardly polite, enthusiastic, and deferential to authority. He eagerly sought Lin Chen's instruction after witnessing his extraordinary awakening, but obeyed Tang Hao when his father cut their conversation short. 3

He is ambitious and stubbornly resilient. Feeling overshadowed by Lin Chen, he accepted Yu Xiaogang as his master to improve his cultivation; after receiving an unsuitable first spirit ring, he resolved not to let that failure defeat him. 10 12

Tang San is also possessive and jealous regarding Xiao Wu. Lin Chen and Xiao Wu's friendship distracts him in class, leaves him feeling isolated, and causes visible inner turmoil during their interactions. 5 7 8 9

Tang San is introduced at the village's martial soul awakening ceremony, where he enthusiastically approaches Lin Chen. His father subsequently attempts to keep him away from Lin Chen after the latter draws the attention of the five God Kings. 1 3

Nuoding Academy

Tang San enrolls at Nuoding Academy alongside Lin Chen. As Lin Chen and Xiao Wu become close and move into a separate dormitory, Tang San becomes increasingly lonely, jealous, and unable to concentrate in class. 4 6 7

Yu Xiaogang's Disciple

Seeking the strength to catch up with Lin Chen, Tang San accepts Yu Xiaogang as his master. Yu Xiaogang promises to teach him martial soul theory and guide his cultivation. 10
