Background / History

Tang San grew up in Holy Soul Village as the son of Tang Hao. At the martial soul awakening ceremony, he was an innocent and enthusiastic six-year-old who eagerly approached Lin Chen and suggested that they awaken together. He possessed innate full soul power and twin martial souls: Blue Silver Grass and a concealed hammer martial soul. 1 10

After traveling with Lin Chen to enroll at Nuoding Academy, Tang San increasingly felt excluded by Lin Chen's closeness with Xiao Wu. His jealousy and desire to overcome the twenty-rank gap between his own innate soul power and Lin Chen's drove him to seek guidance from Yu Xiaogang. He formally became Yu Xiaogang's disciple, hoping to strengthen himself and eventually catch up to Lin Chen. 7 10

Yu Xiaogang took Tang San to Spirit Hunting Forest to obtain a suitable first soul ring, originally targeting a Mandala Snake. The hunt went wrong when Tang San was attacked by a Lone Bamboo and involuntarily absorbed its ten-year spirit ring. Although disappointed by the poor-quality ring, he remained determined not to be defeated by this setback. 11 12

After later entering Shrek Academy, Tang San underwent Yu Xiaogang's harsh physical training and eventually reached rank 30 alongside Oscar. He traveled with Zhao Wuji, Dai Mubai, Ma Hongjun, and Oscar to Star Dou Great Forest in search of a third soul ring. 54 58

When Lin Chen killed a two-thousand-year Man Faced Demon Spider that Tang San could not safely absorb and took its spirit ring and Eight Spider Lances External Soul Bone, Tang San's memories of an alternate lifetime abruptly returned. He remembered having been a dual-godhood holder of the Sea God and Asura God, possessing the Blue Silver Emperor and Clear Sky Hammer, numerous high-level soul rings and soul bones, and a marriage to Xiao Wu. In the altered present, however, he was only a rank-30 Soul Grandmaster with a white and yellow soul ring, while Xiao Wu was with Lin Chen. 61 62

Unable to accept his altered circumstances or the gap between himself and Lin Chen, Tang San sought the forbidden Void Ruin Secret Art in an abandoned hunting cabin. He sacrificed his Sea God and Asura God Divinities to the Lord of the Void Ruin in exchange for immense power and an irreversible eternal contract. The transaction transformed him into an Evil Soul Master, changed his Blue Silver Grass into Void Ruin Demon Grass, and elevated him directly to rank 60. 75 80

Tang San then created a dead zone in Star Dou Great Forest by devouring soul beasts and later slaughtered Spirit Hall soul masters who investigated the devastation. Although he escaped an encirclement by Chrysanthemum Douluo and Ghost Douluo through Void Ruin Blood Escape, his actions led Spirit Hall to identify him as a major threat. 77 78

Following his escape, Tang San persuaded Tang Hao to accept Void Ruin Power by appealing to their shared hatred of Spirit Hall and Ah Yin's death. Tang Hao's Clear Sky Hammer became the Void Ruin Demon Hammer, and his strength rose to rank 97. Tang Hao ultimately sacrificed all nine of his soul rings to rescue Tang San from Qian Daoliu and Bibi Dong, but Lin Chen later killed him while attempting to eliminate the wounded Tang San as well. 79 82 83

The Lord of the Void Ruin personally intervened before Lin Chen could kill Tang San, dragging him away through a fissure in the earth and declaring that Tang San's karmic connection to Lin Chen could not yet be severed. Spirit Hall subsequently declared Tang San a continent-wide wanted Evil Soul Master, while the Divine Realm recognized him as an important anchor through which the Lord of the Void Ruin could infiltrate the mortal world. 83 84 85

At age six, Tang San was a small, thin boy with black hair. He wore clean, neat coarse clothing in Holy Soul Village. 1

Personality

Tang San is outwardly polite, enthusiastic, and deferential to authority. He eagerly sought Lin Chen's instruction after witnessing his extraordinary awakening, but obeyed Tang Hao when his father cut their conversation short. 3

He is ambitious and stubbornly resilient. Feeling overshadowed by Lin Chen, he accepted Yu Xiaogang as his master to improve his cultivation; after receiving an unsuitable first spirit ring, he resolved not to let that failure defeat him. 10 12

Tang San is also possessive and jealous regarding Xiao Wu. Lin Chen and Xiao Wu's friendship distracts him in class, leaves him feeling isolated, and causes visible inner turmoil during their interactions. 5 7 8 9

After recovering his Divine King memories, Tang San becomes obsessive, volatile, and deeply resentful. He regards the Man Faced Demon Spider, the Eight Spider Lances, Xiao Wu, and his former destiny as possessions stolen from him by Lin Chen, despite the altered timeline and Xiao Wu's own choices. 62 63 75

His frustration later develops into ruthless amorality. To gain the strength to kill Lin Chen, he willingly sacrifices both divine inheritances, accepts eternal servitude to the Lord of the Void Ruin, drains the lives of soul beasts and humans, and treats further opponents as nourishment for his cultivation. 75 77

Tang San nevertheless retains a calculating survival instinct. Against overwhelmingly powerful enemies, he relies on ambushes, formations, terrain control, and self-destructive escape techniques rather than direct confrontation. 78 81

Void Ruin Demonic Transformation

Unable to surpass Lin Chen through ordinary cultivation, Tang San invokes the forbidden Void Ruin Secret Art. Star Dou Dead Zone Massacres

Tang San devours soul beasts to expand his power and creates a vast zone of lifeless forest. When Spirit Hall sends forces to investigate, he massacres sixty-eight soul masters, including Bishop Wang Ming, and treats their deaths as further nourishment. 77

Void Ruin Soul-Devouring Formation

When Chrysanthemum Douluo, Ghost Douluo, and an elite Spirit Hall force enter the dead zone, Tang San traps them with the Void Ruin Soul-Devouring Formation. Though their Yin-Yang Static Domain immobilizes him, Tang San escapes by sacrificing much of his body through Void Ruin Blood Escape. 78

Tang Hao's Corruption

Tang Hao confronts Tang San after following his actions in the forest. Tang San persuades his father to embrace Void Ruin Power, transforming the Clear Sky Hammer into the Void Ruin Demon Hammer and raising Tang Hao to rank 97. 79

Withered Land Ambush

Lin Chen uses himself as bait to draw Tang San into the Withered Land, where Qian Daoliu and Bibi Dong spring an ambush. Tang San is gravely wounded, but Tang Hao arrives to defend him and detonates all nine soul rings, seriously injuring Qian Daoliu and Bibi Dong before escaping with his son. 81 82

Tang Hao's Death and Void Ruin Intervention

Lin Chen tracks the wounded father and son to a secluded valley. He kills Tang Hao after Tang Hao makes a final attempt to defend Tang San, then prepares to kill Tang San until the Lord of the Void Ruin intervenes and carries Tang San away. 83

Continent-Wide Manhunt

Spirit Hall publicly identifies Tang San as an Evil Soul Master responsible for the Star Dou Great Forest devastation and the slaughter of its personnel.
