"Oh-ho, he ran off again, hiding in some little dark room in the palace." Oedmeir mocked as she watched the flickering psychic light on the Emperor's chair.
Lin Fan asked as well, "Does the palace really have a place like that? I thought you'd already mapped out its entire structure."
"Oh, my heavens. Do you think it's some tiny building? This palace was built atop the Qinghai–Tibet Plateau. Everything several thousand meters below it, perhaps even deeper, has been altered." Oedmeir feigned surprise, but Lin Fan guessed she was merely preserving the Emperor's dignity. That little room he used to shut himself away in was probably under Oedmeir's observation.
Oedmeir smiled, then said to the remaining Primarchs around the round table, "All right, all right. Let's stop talking about the Emperor. You Adeptus Custodes may leave for now. There's no problem here."
Valdor and Trajan put away their weapons, respectfully bowed to Oedmeir, and departed. The reason they respected Oedmeir so greatly was because the Emperor respected her. If one day the Emperor decided to eliminate Oedmeir, the scientist, they would never show mercy.
Of course, whether they could defeat Oedmeir was another matter. The enhancement surgeries undergone by the Adeptus Custodes were all a tier below hers. Without powerful psychic abilities and ultra-advanced equipment, even Valdor, chief of the Adeptus Custodes, could not defeat Oedmeir at full strength.
Once she saw the Adeptus Custodes lower their guard, Oedmeir summoned another person into the Throne Room. Not until Oedmeir introduced him did Lin Fan recognize that the gaunt man in the red robes of the Adeptus Mechanicus was Archmagos Cawl.
"Uh... greetings, my lords." Cawl bowed to everyone. His manner was stiff and dry; he still had not fully adjusted to his human body.
