Buzz... Buzz... Buzz...
The Leman Russ tanks restarted once more, causing Mare and Demiurge to cast aside their disdain.
"It seems the enemy is not so weak after all. Mare, please continue casting your spells."
Although there was no blame in Demiurge's tone, Mare felt ashamed at the tanks restarting.
Only six seconds had passed from the moment he cast his spell to the tanks restarting. His perpetually frail-looking face was now clouded with intense disgust at the weaklings' stubborn refusal to die.
Why... why won't you just die? If you died, things would be easier for all of us...
Mare's gaze turned icy as he prepared his next spell without hesitation.
"Green Hell!"
Thick vines, so massive that two people embracing could not fully encircle them, spread outward from Mare. Though they could not withstand the blows of the Leman Russ tanks, they could move through the deep underground and attack their enemies from impossible-to-guard angles.
Soon, the vines burst from the ground and assaulted the Imperium soldiers like a gigantic tentacled sea monster rising from the ocean.
Every lash meant at least one soldier had every bone in his body shattered, becoming a limp corpse sprawled across the ground.
The officers among the troops marked targets for the soldiers, ordering them to concentrate their firepower and destroy the vines.
Lasguns fired in volleys, flames spewed forth, and there were even blades hacking and swords stabbing.
Mare frowned at the counterattacks. Controlling the vines consumed mana, while reviving them consumed even more.
"Die already... die already... die already..."
Mare muttered resentfully, his eyes utterly devoid of emotion as broken human remains were hurled into the air by the vines.
Amid the fierce battle, an Imperium officer noticed that the vines were astonishingly agile, as though someone were controlling them.
