Elsewhere, Leman Russ was leading the Space Wolves in battle against a towering tree that blotted out the sky. Its roots were unbelievably thick; even the heavy missile launchers carried by the Space Marines could barely leave a noticeable crater in them.
Fortunately, the Space Wolves had keen senses of smell. Beneath that tough, heavy bark, they detected a fragile heart. If that thing was destroyed, the tree, whose roots stretched across hundreds of kilometers, would die completely.
Leman Russ moved through the swinging vines like an ape, then leaped before the tree's amber heart and shattered it with an iron fist. The tree died with it. Its verdant leaves turned grayish white, then scattered across the surrounding land in the wind.
"Damn thing!" Leman Russ cursed irritably. "You bastard breaking the seals, don't let me catch you! If I catch you, I'll skin you alive, have Magnus heal you, then skin you a second time! A third time! A fourth time!"
Speaking of Magnus, he was examining Leman Russ's gift alongside the Emperor: the Queen of the Draconic Kingdom named Draudillon.
