Bai Ye frowned slightly. "What's wrong?"
"Extraordinary abilities are powered by mental strength. I've overdrawn mine too badly..."
"Get inside first. Leave these two to me." He gripped the dagger in a reverse hold, staring intently at the two gray sparrows climbing up from the ground.
The two gray sparrows shook their heads, then kicked off the ground and instantly shot toward them like two gray arrows.
Bai Ye did not use Time Stop. With his current physical abilities, dealing with two isolated gray sparrows was not a problem.
Just as he was about to make his move, the sound of rapid footsteps suddenly came from a nearby rooftop.
Immediately afterward, a clear sword cry rang out, like the roar of a dragon.
A woman clad in black-and-silver knight armor descended from the sky, abruptly entering Bai Ye's vision alongside a fierce streak of sword light as swift as lightning!
Clang!
The sword light flashed, and the two gray sparrows split in half midair, blood spraying everywhere.
The sparrow corpses and the female knight landed on the ground at the same time.
Bai Ye's gaze sharpened. What a fast sword! He had barely seen an afterimage of the blade before the two gray sparrows were torn apart.
With his enhanced physical abilities, he could barely make out the trajectories of ordinary pistol bullets, yet he could not see the woman's sword light clearly. That meant her sword was already faster than a bullet!
Who was she? An extraordinary? Or a genetically modified human?
The female knight slowly turned around. A featureless silver-white mask was particularly eye-catching, with only two hollows where the eyes should have been, revealing a pair of clear, mirrorlike light-brown eyes.
She said nothing, merely watching Bai Ye calmly as he stood covered in blood and grime.
The scorching summer wind swept yellow sand across the gray earth, stirring the woman's long black hair. Bai Ye could even see a playful strand of black hair curling out from beside her slender waist.
Her fingertips at her side tightened around the hilt of her cross sword, and its slender pure-silver blade rose slightly.
Bai Ye narrowed his eyes. He did not know the woman's intentions. He only knew that if she meant him harm, at this distance, he would need to focus completely in order to stop time before she drew her sword.
All his attention was fixed on the sword. It was a pure-silver cross sword, its blade slender and long. Beneath the slightly raised curve of its spine, silver patterns surged like drifting clouds.
Suddenly, the woman moved her sword.
But her target was not Bai Ye. It was... a gray sparrow!
At some point, a gray sparrow lurking in the shadows had launched a sneak attack from behind the woman. She did not turn around, merely lifting the pure-silver cross sword in her hand slightly as the blade swept past above her right shoulder.
Pfft!
The charging gray sparrow seemed to have deliberately slammed into the sword tip. It was pierced through in a single strike and hung in midair like candied fruit on a skewer, while the woman rested the pure-silver cross sword on her shoulder. Her movement was clean, decisive, and fluid.
Bai Ye's eyelid twitched at the sight. He almost wanted to curse. Damn it, you're acting this cool—aren't you afraid of dying?
With a casual flick, the woman sent the gray sparrow's corpse and blood sliding off the gleaming silver blade. Those light-brown eyes gave Bai Ye a deep look before she turned and left.
With a light tap of her toes, her tall, graceful figure landed on a rooftop like a flying swallow. She then raced toward the gray sparrows above the western district.
"It's her!?" Li You cried out as he watched the woman's departing figure from the entrance of the brick house.
"You know her?" Bai Ye turned and asked.
Li You shook his head. "No, I don't know her, but I've seen her before. I stayed in Gravel Town for a while. Back then, Gravel Town was also attacked by mutated beasts. She suddenly appeared and drove them back!"
Bai Ye frowned slightly. Someone who specifically killed mutated beasts? It looked like her goal was to protect the people in the wasteland settlements.
Above the western district, the figure in knight armor drifted into view. The woman leaped up and charged straight into the flock of several hundred gray sparrows. The densely packed birds that blotted out the sky rushed at her, and the cries of countless birds were piercingly harsh.
The next moment, the pure-silver cross sword let out a crisp dragonlike cry that overwhelmed the birdsong. The woman twisted at the waist, spinning fiercely through the air. Her wrist straightened, and the sword edge instantly drew brilliant arcs one after another.
The silver-white mask and chilling sword edge reflected each other, while her long black hair and the black skirt beneath her shining silver knight armor danced together. In an instant, gray sparrows rained from the sky!
The scene directly stunned Tan Jie, King Snake, and the others hiding inside the house. Their ammunition had run out, many of their men had died, and they had long since fallen into despair. They had never expected the woman to descend from the sky like a savior at this critical moment.
Her terrifyingly swift movements and miraculous swordsmanship left no gray sparrow able to withstand a single exchange. Her actions were crisp and elegant. There was none of the bloody savagery of slaughter; instead, it looked as though she were dancing gracefully among the flock.
Moments later, the gray sparrows that had hung over the Graysoil Town like dark clouds had been completely cleared away. The woman stood amid the gray feathers filling the sky, turned her wrist, spun the pure-silver cross sword, and then sheathed it with unerring precision.
Everyone who witnessed the scene stood dumbfounded. No one had expected the gray sparrows that had nearly slaughtered Graysoil Town to last only a few seconds in the woman's hands.
"We... we survived!?" Someone inside a house erupted in ecstatic cheers after surviving the disaster.
King Snake and the others hesitated for a moment before finally walking out of the house, their faces full of obsequious humility as they thanked the woman.
They knew that before such a powerful expert, the houses that could barely hold off gray sparrows were as flimsy as paper. Rather than cower in fear, they might as well quickly express their gratitude and respect to the strong.
"Thank you, my lady, for saving our lives. We have no way to repay you." Tan Jie's large face was piled with a fawning smile.
The woman did not respond. Instead, she remained standing where she was, as though considering something.
"May we know your name, my lady?" King Snake asked cautiously. "Please don't misunderstand. We don't mean anything else by it. We only wish to know who our benefactor is, so we can repay you in the future."
"There's no need to wait until later. You can repay me now." A cool young girl's voice came from beneath the silver-white mask. Not a ripple of emotion flowed through her words. Her voice was like a lake on a windless morning, clear and still.
King Snake and the others froze. They had not expected the woman beneath the mask to have such a young voice, much less for her to be so direct.
King Snake hurriedly smiled. "As long as there is anything you need from us, just give the order."
The knightly girl extended a hand and said flatly, "Money."
King Snake and Tan Jie looked at each other. After exchanging glances for a moment, they hurriedly told their underlings to fetch money. They did not know how much would be appropriate, but their long experience surviving in the wasteland told them that more was always better.
Money could be earned again, but once your life was gone, everything was gone.
"My lady, it's all the money we have." King Snake cautiously handed over a bundle, not daring to make any physical contact with the girl.
The girl took the bundle and weighed it in her hand before saying indifferently, "Silent Court."
Those four words struck King Snake and Tan Jie like thunder, leaving them rooted to the spot with horrified expressions.
Silent Court!? She was from Silent Court?
"So you are..." King Snake was about to ingratiate himself further when he realized in shock that the girl had not been speaking to him at all, but rather...
King Snake looked to the side and saw Bai Ye in the distance.
Bai Ye raised an eyebrow. Why the hell are you telling me? I didn't ask you?
