Background

Bai Ye transmigrated into the post-Cataclysm wasteland shortly before the events in Gray Soil Town. Discovering Time Stop, he initially mistook himself for an invincible “god of the new era” and confronted Tan Jie's protection-collection party. Because he had already squandered most of his daily minute testing the power, he was unable to back up his threats; the East District dismissed him as mentally contaminated and demoted him to slavery. 1 2

Before his enslavement, Bai Ye was known as a lone wasteland hunter. To conceal both his humiliation and his ability, he claimed that poisonous mushrooms had caused his earlier delusions. 2

Seeing the East and West Districts contesting the taboo revolver Breath of Bones, Bai Ye recognized a route out of slavery. He volunteered for Fate Roulette, deliberately stalled until his daily Time Stop became available, and used the frozen minute to remove one bullet from the revolver before taking a six-bullet turn. 2 3 4

He frequently provokes others, demands titles such as “Deputy Commander Bai,” and treats Tan Jie and King Snake with open contempt after acquiring Breath of Bones. 5 8 He is also a habitual liar, readily inventing explanations—such as his poisonous-mushroom story—when secrecy serves him. 2

His fixation on time shapes both his strategy and temper. He regards even seconds as precious, reacts violently to perceived time-wasting, and seeks power that can preserve or extend his life, including the Pangu USB Drive's knowledge of supernatural evolution and life engineering. 13 29

Despite his selfishness and ruthlessness, Bai Ye is not indifferent to ordinary wastelanders. When Dawn City soldiers capture the survivors of Gray Soil Town as disposable scouts, Bai Ye initially submits to survive.
