"Brother Chen, what did you bring us? It smells so good!"
Inside Spring Radiance Orphanage, a group of raggedly dressed children happily crowded around him. Most of them were six or seven years old.
There were also a few older ones, around twelve or thirteen.
The youngest was still being carried and could not walk yet.
Though these orphans looked sallow and thin, their eyes held the innocence unique to children, like two freshly washed black grapes.
At the sight of the children, Chen Enze's perpetually cold face finally broke into a smile. He rubbed the head of a chubby child pawing at the food in his hands and said with a smile,
"Today, big brother brought you something delicious. You can only get it at Dawn City's best restaurant."
The children did not know what Dawn City's best restaurant was, but they thought Chen Enze was amazing.
"Come on, everyone. Eat together."
The children swarmed forward. At that moment, a twelve-year-old girl, skinny as a stick, walked over while carrying the orphanage's youngest child and scolded, "Go wash your hands! Have you forgotten what Director Ruan taught you? Wash your hands before eating."
She seemed to be the leader among the children, and they were all afraid of her. They looked at the food reluctantly before obediently going to wash their hands.
But the skinny girl did not leave. Instead, she walked over to Chen Enze and deliberately lowered her voice. "Brother Chen, still no news about Director Ruan?"
Seeing the hope in her eyes, Chen Enze felt as though his heart had been viciously stabbed. He forced a smile. "There are already leads. Don't worry."
He had lied. He had no idea where Director Ruan Ling had gone. It was as if she had vanished into thin air.
