"Ah!" Chen Enze let out a pained roar and collapsed to the ground. His strength ebbed away like a receding tide, leaving behind nothing but endless pain. Every cell in his body felt as though it were being pierced by needles.

"Th-this... what exactly is happening?" He struggled to get up, but he could not stand no matter what he did.

The man in the dark brown coat reached out and slowly helped Chen Enze up. In a steady, calm voice, he explained, "Your mind was stimulated, causing you to awaken Transcendent power. It looks like an ability related to Berserk. While it grants you strength, it also burns away your reason and carries serious aftereffects."

Awaken Transcendence!? Me?

Chen Enze endured the pain. Awakening Transcendence brought him no joy; instead, it only made his situation more difficult, because... Apocalypse prohibited Transcendents.

"Who exactly are you? How do you know so much?"

The man in the dark brown coat smiled gently. His smile was like spring sunlight—warm, yet not glaring.

"My name is Fang Xubai. I'm a lawyer."

"A lawyer? How could there be a lawyer like you in this world? You're a Transcendent too, aren't you?" Chen Enze did not believe him at all. What kind of lawyer could see through his awakened Transcendence at a glance, and even use some unknown method to bring him back to his senses?

"Do I not look like a lawyer?"

"No," Chen Enze said coldly.

Fang Xubai smiled helplessly. "There's nothing I can do if I don't. I really am a lawyer. If you don't wish to call me Lawyer Fang, perhaps another name would be easier for you to accept. You may call me... the Chief Judge."

"The Chief Judge!?" Chen Enze felt as though he had been struck by lightning.
