"That's not it. I came to the Shelter to find a few swords that suit my hand."
Gao Bancheng froze. "The old era's technology was highly advanced. They basically used firearms. Going into a Shelter to look for swords, I'm afraid..."
Xiao Yi shook his head slightly and smiled. "Not so. I heard that in the old era, there was a divine sword whose edge flashed like lightning across the red sky. It had no substance, no blade; anything it touched melted away like snow cast into boiling soup. Wherever its radiance reached, armor would melt!"
"Was there really such a divine sword?" Gao Bancheng thought for a long time but could not recall any sword that matched the description.
Bai Ye, however, paused. "Isn't that just a laser sword?"
Xiao Yi was overjoyed. "I never expected Brother Bai, despite his humble origins, to be so knowledgeable and even know of this divine sword. Laser!"
Bai Ye's face darkened. "You could have left out the part about humble origins."
"Ah, that is not so. An ancient saying goes: humble origins are not shameful; a true man can bend and stretch. In my view, Brother Bai is a heroic young man, and you are acquainted with Mr. Li. You are bound to achieve great things in the future."
After traveling together for some time, everyone had learned a little about one another's backgrounds, including how Magic Hand Li You had instantly captured the mutated peregrine falcon.
"A laser sword is a high-tech weapon. I doubt it meets your requirements for a sword."
Xiao Yi shook his head and said seriously, "A laser sword is still a sword. As long as it is a sword, I can use it."
What the hell, are you some kind of conceptual god?
Then do supersonic fire swords, aircraft carrier swords, interstellar war swords, and planet-slaying swords all count as swords too?
As they joked around, they soon passed through the forest and arrived at an open clearing.
"Damn! There are so many people!" Xiao Yi exclaimed. There were several hundred people in this clearing!
These people appeared to be split into two camps, occupying the north and south sides respectively, with an open path left between them. The divide was crystal clear.
Everyone on the southern side wore standard uniforms, with the Eye of Apocalypse emblem embroidered on their chests. They were clearly from Apocalypse Technology Corporation. There were nearly two hundred of them, their expressions stern, their bodies standing straight as spears. Every one of them radiated intense killing intent.
There were even more people on the northern side, around three hundred. Their clothing varied, as did their weapons, which came in all sorts of strange models. They gathered in small groups, wary of one another, like a disorganized rabble.
Bai Ye paid no attention to them. Instead, his gaze crossed the crowd and fell upon Shelter 189, which he had been yearning to see.
It was a massive cave set into the mountainside. Rubble and traces of explosions surrounded it, and more than a dozen charred corpses lay scattered haphazardly across the ground.
The cave was pitch-black, like a black hole swallowing sunlight. It was impossible to see inside.
These people seemed extremely afraid of the cave and did not dare approach it at all, leaving a hundred-meter radius around it completely empty.
"The people in the south are Apocalypse's gene warriors," Gao Bancheng suddenly said in a low voice.
Bai Ye came back to his senses and looked at the gene warriors. His attention was quickly drawn to a man and a woman. The two were surrounded by the gene warriors, clearly the leaders of the group.
The man sat astride a boulder with his upper body bare. His bronze muscles gleamed with an oily sheen beneath the sunlight. He stood a full two meters tall, like a miniature giant. His eyes were not human eyes, but the vertical pupils of a beast, like a pair of poisoned amber gems.
The woman was even more eye-catching. A glossy, snakeskin-patterned miniskirt clung tightly around her waist, accentuating her fiery figure. Her brows and eyes tilted slightly upward, hooks hidden within her lazy allure. One casual glance from her was enough to stir a ripple in one's heart.
She sat upon the man's broad shoulder, turned her eyes toward Bai Ye's group, and smiled with curled lips.
"Swordbearer Xiao Yi, and Shadowman Li Xiao... I never expected the two of you, extraordinary beings with bounties exceeding ten million, to arrive together."
Were Xiao Yi and Li Xiao really that famous?
Bai Ye secretly glanced at the two of them. Just as Xiao Yi was about to speak, Li Xiao stepped forward and stood before everyone. With his hands behind his back, he faced the hundreds present and declared arrogantly:
"You recognized Li at a glance. You are clearly no nobody. State your name."
His domineering manner drew many gazes. It was obvious that he enjoyed being the center of attention.
The woman let out a delicate laugh, her body trembling seductively. "Zodiac—Silver Snake."
Zodiac?
Bai Ye's expression turned slightly strange. He thought of Ying, that wild-imagination Eagle, and discreetly shot Li You a look.
But Li You did not respond at all. His lecherous eyes were fixed straight on Silver Snake, his pupils moving along with every sway of her body.
Ah...
Bai Ye sighed deeply. He no longer knew what to say about Li You. Smoking, drinking, gambling, greed, lust—did this guy have even one redeeming quality?
He quietly moved closer to Li You and coughed lightly.
Only then did Li You come back to his senses, his lips parting slightly. "What is it, Brother Ye?"
"With Zodiac right in front of us, what do you think?"
Li You swallowed. "Of course, I'll watch it over and over again!"
"Your mother..." Bai Ye was so angry that he nearly cursed aloud, but stopped himself in time.
"Can you be even a little more alert?" He pointed at the tattered sack containing the Black Flood Dragon M300.
Li You finally regained his senses and hurriedly hid the tattered sack farther behind him.
After hiding it, he froze, seemingly realizing something. "Did you just curse me?"
"No." Bai Ye shot him an irritated look. "I said your mom being happy is better than anything."
Li You: "..."
In the clearing.
A sharp gleam flashed through Li Xiao's eyes. Completely ignoring Silver Snake's stunning figure, he focused on the wild-looking man.
"Among Zodiac, Silver Snake and Nether Tiger have always been inseparable, known as the tiger's head and snake's tail. It seems you must be Nether Tiger."
The wild, muscular man called Nether Tiger swept a cold, disdainful glance over Li Xiao but said nothing, as though someone like Li Xiao was beneath his notice.
Li Xiao's eyes suddenly darkened. "I never expected the famed Nether Tiger of Zodiac to be a mute. It seems Apocalypse Corporation truly has poor judgment when choosing people."
Holy shit!?
Bai Ye stared wide-eyed. No, bro, how do you dare? They have two hundred gene warriors! Who do you think you are, me?
If I'd known you showed off without caring about the situation and flexed everywhere you went, I never would have teamed up with you.
He immediately sensed that things were going wrong and quietly retreated behind the others.
When he reached the very back of the group, he discovered someone had moved even faster than he had.
"??? Li Zuo, when did you get here?"
"Just a little before you." Li You scratched his head shyly.
On the other side, Nether Tiger had already risen from the boulder. His blood and energy surged, carrying a terrifying pressure like that of a fierce tiger—the aura of a top predator.
"Shadowman Li Xiao, do you... want to die?"
