Cheng Shao and Pei Yan could not help lowering their heads to stifle their laughter.
Cheng Yu expressionlessly gave an "Oh," offering flatly, "That sounds great."
Wen Yangke smiled faintly. Before he could speak, Cheng Yu refused, "But I'm not interested in acting."
Cheng Yu was the kind of person who would strive to excel at whatever he liked, while clearly expressing his dislike for people or things he did not. He never left anyone any room to maneuver. Relying on his privileged background and exceptional talent, he acted with reckless abandon. Even after taking over C&C Jewelry, his foul temper had never changed. This indirectly caused C&C Jewelry to make countless enemies even as it madly devoured market share. The Jewelry Joint Association had even been established to counter Cheng Yu's expansion plans.
He absolutely would not tolerate others questioning decisions he had made himself. Put nicely, he had his own mind; put bluntly, he was domineering, obstinate, and willful. This temperament had also been built up through repeated real-world trials and one successful comeback after another. After all, within just six years, he had turned a jewelry company with a market value of less than ten billion—which had nearly been maliciously acquired—into an international luxury brand with assets approaching one hundred billion. Even accounting for inflation, and even though Cheng Shao had later exploited Cheng Yu's mental condition to have him locked in a sanatorium, no one dared underestimate Cheng Yu's abilities, scheming, or methods.
With such achievements as his foundation, even though Cheng Yu was now wrapped in a youthful, immature shell, once he personally stated that he did not like acting, Wen Yangke—despite greatly admiring Cheng Yu's potential—found himself completely unable to continue persuading him as he looked at that overly exquisite face, which showed not the slightest trace of childish innocence.
Even Wen Yangke found this inexplicable timidity strange.
He simply had the aura of a born superstar.
Wen Yangke secretly clicked his tongue. It only further stirred his desire to sign Cheng Yu into the entertainment industry. He was very curious what marvelous chemical reaction someone like Cheng Yu would create once he entered show business.
Bug Fixes
"Hey, Pei Yan." Just as the atmosphere fell into a somewhat awkward stalemate, Zhou Boyuan returned with two scantily clad, hot-bodied car models draped over his arms. "The club's match tonight has been canceled. Do you guys have any plans for the evening?"
Seeing his cousin's overly licentious behavior, Pei Yan frowned in displeasure. He stepped in front of Cheng Yu. "Tonight, we—"
Before he could finish, Cheng Shao's phone suddenly rang. The surrounding voices were deafeningly loud, so Cheng Shao ran outside with his phone. A few minutes later, he came running back with a grave expression. "Something happened!"
Cheng Yu's heart sank as Cheng Shao said solemnly, "Grandpa had a heart attack. He's being resuscitated at the hospital."
Before his words had even faded, Cheng Shao only felt a gust of wind rush past him. Cheng Yu had already vanished from sight. Cheng Shao and Pei Yan exchanged a glance, then hurried after Cheng Yu. Zhou Boyuan glanced at the two beauties in his arms and followed without a second thought.
The group rushed to Yanjing First People's Hospital as quickly as possible. Cheng Shao called Chen Lingyun to ask for the room number. When they found it, they happened to see a doctor giving instructions to Cheng Kaiyun and his wife in the hallway. Cheng Yu shot the two of them a glare, forcefully shouldered them aside, and asked the doctor, "How is my grandpa?"
Cheng Kaiyun and Chen Lingyun staggered from Cheng Yu's shove. Chen Lingyun barely caught herself against the wall and demanded furiously, "Cheng Yu, what are you doing?"
"I should be asking what you did!" Cheng Yu could no longer hold back his anger. "Why did Grandpa have an attack?"
The question made Chen Lingyun feel inexplicably guilty. That morning, after Cheng Yu had stormed out of the house, Chen Simiao and his wife had been unhappy. They repeatedly criticized her for failing to distinguish right from wrong, for suspecting her own son without even understanding what had happened; for taking outsiders' side. They said her sense of the bigger picture was worse than a child's. As chairman of C&C Jewelry, she did not even know about Feng Guangxu's underhanded schemes, yet she needed Cheng Yu, a child, to fill in the gaps for her.
Unhappy with what she heard, Chen Lingyun argued with the old man for a few sentences. She believed that no one knew a son better than his mother, and that Cheng Yu, at such a young age, could not possibly possess the ability or means to uncover Feng Guangxu's secret of setting up shell companies to siphon off C&C Jewelry's business. After all, even she, the chairman, had not known about it.
Chen Lingyun suspected that someone wanted to drive a wedge between her and Feng Guangxu, hoping to reap the rewards while the two sides fought. Cheng Yu was merely a pawn being used.
"You're the ones who spoiled him rotten. I haven't even questioned what exactly he was trying to do or where he got this information, yet he turned around and lost his temper at me." At this point, Chen Lingyun could not help complaining to Chen Simiao and Lin Sufen, "Dad, Mom, let's discuss this. The next time I discipline my child, could you two please stop jumping in to protect him? It's because you always defend him that he's becoming more and more disobedient."
"The reason the child doesn't listen to you is because nothing you say makes any sense." Chen Simiao shook his head, wondering if being chairman for too long had made his daughter increasingly stubborn, headstrong, and incapable of taking advice.
"And if you truly want to educate your child, then communicate with him properly. Don't blow everything out of proportion and spout nonsense at every turn. As the old saying goes, cruel words chill the heart even in June. He's your son, not your grandson. If you, his mother, show him no respect at all, what right do you have to demand that he treat you with utmost respect and obey your every command?"
Chen Lingyun was so angry that she laughed. "You really do protect him too much. He's my son. He's eaten my food and worn my clothes since he was little, so he has to listen to me. Why do I discipline him and not other people? Isn't it because he's my son? If he were an outsider, I couldn't even be bothered with him."
"Don't make it sound so ugly." Lin Sufen could not stand it any longer and retorted, "Yu has been raised by your father and me since he was little. We bought his food and clothes, too. As his mother, the money and effort you've spent on him have truly been limited. So stop claiming credit here."
"Your mother is right." Chen Simiao nodded in agreement. "By your logic, you also ate our food and wore our clothes growing up. Did we ever demand that you treat us with utmost respect and obey our every command?"
