Background / History

Lin Yiyi lost both parents and was later taken in by an elderly Daoist priest, who raised him. After his master's death, Lin personally buried the master's ashes at Nanshan Cemetery. 20 22

He works in funeral rites despite his young age, caring for the dying, conducting ceremonies, and guiding spirits onward. His repeated exposure to death has left him outwardly numb to farewells, though he still makes an effort to comfort grieving families and help the dead find peace. 1 19

A veteran Genshin Impact player, Lin possesses a full C6R5 roster. During a game update, he discovers a second application called Teyvat, which gives him access to his character roster and the ability to invite its inhabitants across dimensions. 1 3

Appearance

Lin commonly dresses as a modern young man, but his appearance changes with his duties and travels between worlds. 1 19

  • Often wears a cowboy hat. 1 32
  • Uses a recognizable trench coat while working outside. 7
  • Wears a loose yellow Daoist robe bearing a Taiji symbol during funeral rites. 19
  • Is shorter than Zhongli but taller than Xiao. 9 37

Personality

Lin is reserved, socially anxious, and often avoids eye contact when confronted with kindness or emotionally perceptive people. He initially sees the modern world through its greed, resentment, and cruelty, having encountered much of humanity's pain through funeral work and restless spirits. 4 5 9

Despite this pessimism, he is consistently compassionate. He helps strangers threatened by ghosts, defends students from bullies, advises Chen Yue and her mother to reconcile, and comforts fans struggling under personal pressure. 7 11 14 17

His time with the people of Teyvat gradually makes him more open and willing to connect with others. He is also resourceful under pressure, frequently concealing his companions' identities as “cosplayers” while teaching them how to navigate modern life. 10 18 44
