A large ginger cat slipped into the Magical Creatures Menagerie.
Behind him was Ron, carrying Scabbers.
"I think I should get him checked out." Ron stroked Scabbers's back. "He seems a bit out of sorts in Egypt."
Scabbers looked thinner than before, his whiskers drooping noticeably, completely listless.
"That works out nicely," Harry said. "You can ask the people at this Magical Creatures Menagerie what they can do about Scabbers."
"And Hermione can buy the owl she wants."
They entered the Magical Creatures Menagerie and saw an old witch behind the counter explaining to a wizard how to care for a Two-tailed Newt.
"When keeping one, be sure to maintain a low-temperature environment."
"Also, use sponges and Goblins to filter the water..."
"It eats meat, so feeding it once every two or three days is enough."
After the wizard buying the Two-tailed Newt left, Ron carried his rat to the counter.
"My rat's acting strange." Ron placed Scabbers on the counter. "Ever since I brought him back from Egypt, he's been like this..."
Beside Scabbers was a large cage full of rats. They had been propping themselves up with their bald, long tails, playing some strange jumping game.
Now that they saw Scabbers, all the rats stopped and crowded against the wire cage, sniffing at him.
While Ron consulted the witch, Silan looked around the Magical Creatures Menagerie.
The shop was tiny, with cages packed densely across the walls. A lingering stench hung in the air, and the sounds of all kinds of animals overlapped in a chaotic din.
A plump white rabbit was performing magic tricks in its cage. With a pop, it turned into a silk top hat, then with another pop, changed back.
Even without an audience, it kept transforming back and forth.
