Personality

Ron is outspoken, impulsive, and sensitive about being overshadowed by his older brothers. He initially resents Silan Prewett’s arrival as another exceptionally capable relative, especially after Silan is sorted into Slytherin; Ron expects Silan to become yet another person his family admires more than him 29 59.

Despite his complaints and insecurities, Ron is fiercely loyal. He tries to curse Draco Malfoy for insulting his friends even with an unreliable wand, and later agrees to sabotage his own match against Harry rather than treat Silan as an enemy 177 211. His dramatic reactions, eagerness to show off his new wand, and tendency to make overconfident deductions often provide comic relief 201 203.

• First wand — A secondhand wand that was damaged, patched with magical tape by Fred and George, and later broke again after backfiring during Ron’s attempt to curse Malfoy 177 178.

• Harry Potter — Best friend and frequent partner in trouble. Ron joins Harry in investigating the Philosopher’s Stone and later conspires with him to throw their match 105 211 217.

Story Role / Major Arcs

First Year

Ron learns that Silan Prewett may be his cousin through the Prewett–Weasley family connection. Unlike Fred and George, he strongly resists the news, partly because Silan is a Slytherin and partly because Ron already feels burdened by his accomplished brothers 12 29 59.

During the troll incident, Ron is caught with Harry, Hermione, and Silan. Silan deliberately splashes Ron with Aguamenti after Ron insulted Hermione, leaving Ron drenched while the group escapes through the mist 58.

Ron becomes fascinated by Hagrid’s baby dragon, Norbert, due to Charlie Weasley’s work with dragons. Although initially nervous, he touches Norbert and is thrilled when the dragon responds gently 105.

During the conflict surrounding the Philosopher’s Stone, Ron, Hermione, and Neville escape the trapdoor chambers on brooms while Silan proceeds with Norbert. Ron injures his foot but insists on treatment despite Madam Pomfrey’s assessment that it was minor 119 126.

Second Year

After his patched wand breaks again, Ron cannot afford a replacement. Silan offers him two Galleons per month to make dragon-dung compost; Ron accepts an advance and takes the work seriously, presenting it to Harry as an important mission 178 179.

Silan pays Ron early and adds a bonus after nearly three months of work. Ron uses the money to buy his first new wand, a willow wand with a Unicorn tail-hair core, and proudly carries it everywhere afterward 203.

Ron joins Lockhart’s team for the school match but agrees with Hermione and Harry to throw his contest against Harry. He and Harry stage an exaggerated duel, repeatedly pretending to disarm and physically defeat one another while the audience fails to understand the act 211 217.

When the Chamber of Secrets attacks intensify, Ron wrongly concludes that Draco Malfoy is Slytherin’s heir. Silan disproves the theory, frustrating Ron despite the elaborate reasoning he had built around it 201.
