Background / History
Gwen’s mother died soon after her birth, leaving her father, George Stacy, to raise her alone. George gave her a warm childhood and remained Gwen’s central family figure. 106
A spider bite on her college campus gave Gwen spider-like abilities. She initially used them in secret to assist her father at crime scenes, subduing violent criminals before eventually becoming an independent vigilante. Capturing the real perpetrator of a serial-murder case—after Eddie Brock had publicized false information about it—strengthened her resolve to fight crime on her own. 106
George’s murder devastates Gwen and turns her pursuit of justice into a personal quest for vengeance. Captain Frank Castle withholds details about the killer out of concern for her, prompting Gwen to infiltrate the Queens Police Department for evidence and enlist Peter Parker’s help. 105 106 107
At the Williamsburg Bridge, Gwen accepts Khorne’s offered power to save trapped civilians, becoming his Chosen One. Her relationship with the Blood God grows increasingly dangerous as his blessings encourage violence and culminate in her Daemon Ascension. 109 143 156
Appearance
Gwen is a young woman with short golden hair and a delicate face. As Spider-Woman, she wears a black-and-white spider suit and mask; Khorne’s power alters her appearance during combat. 109 110
- A crimson Khorne rune appears on her forehead when invoking the Blood God’s blessing. 109
- Her Daemon Ascension manifests two short demonic horns and eight crimson energy appendages resembling spider legs. 143
- The Hell Spider Spears can arrange behind her like skeletal wings. 143
Personality
Gwen is driven, protective, and intensely loyal to the people she considers family. Her father’s death leaves her grieving, self-blaming, and obsessed with finding his murderer, later identified by her as Eddie Brock. 105 106 399 400
Her moral outlook becomes harsher after Khorne’s influence and repeated failures of institutions such as the police, S.H.I.E.L.D., and Hell’s Kitchen vigilantes. She abandons her former no-killing principle, kills enemies she judges irredeemable, and openly rejects Nick Fury’s authority. 108 111 260 395
Despite this ruthlessness, Gwen does not indiscriminately kill. She saves civilians on the Williamsburg Bridge, rescues trafficked children, spares Adrian Toomes because of his daughter, and avoids killing people controlled by Symbiotes. 109 363 386 400
