Lynn carried Sophia as they flew atop the giant dragon, finally landing before the temple in Plague City.
This temple had once been the Plague God's grandest hall. Now, it stood completely empty, with the faint smell of blood still lingering in the air.
The gates stood wide open, and the interior was pitch-black, like a gaping mouth.
Broken bones and rotting flesh lay scattered across the plaza before the temple. From time to time, mangled corpses could still be seen—the traces left behind by the rampaging undead.
Wind poured through the doorway, making a mournful whistling sound, as if someone were crying.
When they reached the rear hall, Sophia was thrown directly onto the floor.
She lay there without moving or raising her head, like a corpse.
She had not spoken, cried, or begged for mercy the entire way.
She merely kept her eyes open, staring into the void. The light in her eyes had long since gone out.
"Get up," Lynn said.
Sophia did not move.
"I told you to get up." Lynn's voice did not change, but a trace of mental force pierced into Sophia's consciousness.
Sophia slowly crawled to her feet. Head lowered, she stood before Lynn like a piece of wood.
"From today onward, you will serve as a maid here. Bring me tea and water, and clean this place."
Lynn passed by her and walked into the temple.
Sophia stood where she was and did not immediately follow him.
The wind lifted her hair, revealing her pale face. Her lips trembled, but she clenched her teeth and made no sound.
Maid?
She had been the saintess of the Wisdom Temple since childhood. Later, when the gods fell, she lost her status as saintess, yet she had still received Leon and Freedom City's respect.
