Aldric stopped, drove the short staff in his hand into the alchemy array beneath his feet, and silver-white light surged from the array, enveloping his body.
The Void Bat Demon dove from higher up, folding its wings and crashing toward Aldric like a meteor.
It landed precisely on the node where Aldric had just planted his short staff.
The instant the Void Bat Demon landed, Aldric shifted aside, causing its attack to miss.
After landing, the Void Bat Demon spread its wings, turned toward Aldric, and viciously bit at him with its fangs.
Aldric raised a hand, and three alchemy patterns closed in from different directions at once, trapping the Void Bat Demon between them.
Before the patterns could close, the Void Bat Demon beat its wings once, breaking free of one pattern's restraint. Its body shifted sideways, avoiding the encirclement of the other two.
