"Swish! Swish!"
Before the Dao Ancestor Hongjun had even finished speaking, he flicked his fingers. Two rays of spiritual light tore through the air from his sleeves, landing respectively before the Eastern King Lord and the Queen Mother of the West.
They were precisely two Supreme-Grade Innate Spiritual Treasures.
The item that landed before the Eastern King Lord was a dragon-headed staff: its body was made of purple gold, its handle was a dragon head, and innate pure yang dao patterns flowed across its entire surface. A single movement caused dragon roars to shake the world; it could suppress all yin evil and command the pure yang qi of the Primordial World.
The item that landed before the Queen Mother of the West was a pure water alms bowl: its body was made of mutton-fat jade, adorned with starlight. Within the bowl, seven types of innate divine water remained distinct, evolving ripples of the Great Dao; it could cleanse the turbid and elevate the clear, purify inner demons, and command all the waters under heaven.
These two spiritual treasures were both obtained by Dao Ancestor Hongjun during his early travels through the Primordial World.
Now that he had attained the status of a Heavenly Dao Sage, his Primordial Spirit was entrusted to the Heavenly Dao, and he harbored thoughts of advancing further to integrate with the Dao; naturally, he had no further use for them.
Furthermore, after his previous sparring session with the Yang Mei Ancestor, where his treasures were all swept away by the hollow willow, Dao Ancestor Hongjun had realized that external objects were ultimately trivial matters, of no further benefit to his integration with the Dao.
Rather than leaving them useless, it was better to bestow them as rewards to complete the prestige and foundation of the two as they governed the immortals.
"Many thanks, Teacher, for the treasures! This disciple will certainly not fail the Dao Ancestor's trust. Together with fellow Daoist Xihua, I shall manage the Immortal Ranks and bring stability to the Primordial World!"
As the dragon-headed staff entered his hand, the pure yang qi throughout the Eastern King Lord's body leaped and surged. His face was filled with unconcealable ecstasy as he bowed repeatedly to Hongjun.
He was happy not only because he had been personally appointed by the Dao Ancestor to become the head of the male immortals in the Primordial World, holding the authority to command all immortals; he was even happier that the Dao Ancestor had placed him on equal footing with the Queen Mother of the West to jointly manage yin and yang.
In the future, as they worked together day and night, affection might naturally blossom. It was not impossible for him to emulate fellow Daoist Lingxiao, win the beauty's heart, and fulfill his long-held wish!
The Queen Mother of the West also bowed to thank Hongjun, a trace of joy flashing through her cold, clear eyes.
She had no desire for hegemony and did not value the authority of being the head of the female immortals, but obtaining a Supreme-Grade Innate Spiritual Treasure that perfectly matched her own Great Dao was an unexpected delight.
One must know that across the entire Primordial World, those who could hold a Supreme-Grade Innate Spiritual Treasure were as rare as phoenix feathers and qilin horns; even many Primordial Golden Immortals who had survived calamities might not necessarily possess such a supreme treasure.
The appearance of this treasure alone was enough to make Zenith Heaven Golden Immortals fight to the death and Primordial Golden Immortals move with emotion!
As for this act of investiture and bestowing of treasures by Dao Ancestor Hongjun, the reactions of the great powers within the palace were all different.
The Three Pure Ones sat upright on the first three prayer mats, their expressions indifferent, not regarding this so-called head of male and female immortals in the slightest.
The Twelve Ancestral Witches were even more so.
Di Jiang, Gonggong, Zhurong, and the other eleven Ancestral Witches all wore expressions of undisguised mockery and disdain. Had it not been for the pressure of the Sage within the Violet Firmament Palace, they would have already burst into sneering laughter.
Only Houtu remained calm, a trace of contemplation in her eyes.
As for the Candle Dragon, the Fire Phoenix, and other veteran great powers who had experienced several calamities, they all remained calm, without a ripple of emotion.
Lingxiao, with his arms around Xihe and Changxi at his side, took all of this in and sighed inwardly.
This move by Dao Ancestor Hongjun appeared to be a simple reward, but in reality, he had already begun paving the way for his future integration with the Dao, mending the heavens, and taking control of the Primordial Heavenly Dao.
Yet, this authority over the Immortal Ranks was ultimately a reflection of flowers in a mirror or the moon in the water. Once the Witch-Demon Tribes rose to power in the future, these titles of the heads of male and female immortals would also turn into nothingness.
However...
Lingxiao thought again. Among the three thousand Violet Firmament Guests, there was no shortage of great powers who inherited the innate yin-yang roots.
Fu Xi and Nuwa: one was innate lesser yang, the other innate lesser yin.
He himself, along with Xihe and Changxi, were the masters of the Lunar Yin and the Sun Star; their roots were orthodox, and their cultivation and dao attainments were all superior to those of the Eastern King Lord and the Queen Mother of the West.
The fact that the positions of heads of male and female immortals fell upon these two, in the final analysis, was merely because they corresponded to the word "pure."
So-called pure yang and pure yin: supreme purity and supreme clarity, not a fraction more, not a fraction less.
Lesser yang and lesser yin lacked a degree of refinement.
Lunar Yin and the Sun Star reached an extreme; yang at its peak gives birth to yin, and yin at its peak gives birth to yang. Although they attained the perfection of the Great Dao, they were not the pure yin-yang source.
The three were not inherently superior or inferior; they simply walked different paths.
"This fellow Daoist Donghua seems to harbor admiration for fellow Daoist Xihua?" Xihe quietly transmitted her voice to Lingxiao, her tone carrying a hint of hesitation.
"It is obvious." Lingxiao nodded with a faint smile.
It was not that his gaze was particularly sharp; it was simply that the Eastern King Lord made no attempt to hide it at all. The great powers present were all perceptive individuals; who could not see through it?
But the falling flowers have intent, while the flowing water has no heart.
Even if the affection were deep, the fate was shallow.
What is meant by pure yang and pure yin?
They are yin-yang sources that do not contain a single trace of impurity. If the two were to truly become dao companions, with yin and yang interacting and their sources merging, how could there be any talk of purity?
This root alone destined them to be unlikely dao companions, unless they encountered a great opportunity to change their fate.
But how easy would that be?
In Lingxiao's view, the Eastern King Lord had little chance of yin-yang fusion in this life. Only by being reincarnated as the Donghua Emperor and the Pure Yang Sword Immortal in the future could he break this mold.
Having said that, fortunately, he himself possessed the Sun Star root and did not have the many restrictions of pure yang. In that case, it was time to grant them a formal status...
His gentle gaze swept over the Jade Rabbit sisters, and shaking his head, Lingxiao gathered his focus.
Immediately, he concentrated on digesting what he had gained from ten thousand years of listening to the Dao, waiting for the second lecture on the path of Quasi-Saint cultivation in the Violet Firmament Palace after three Yuanhui.
The other Innate Sacred Beings in the hall were also silently sorting through the gains from this sermon. When they looked up again, they found that the figure of the Dao Ancestor Hongjun was already gone from atop the Twelve-Petaled Merit Golden Lotus.
For a moment, everyone rose one after another, preparing to disperse and return to their own dojos to retreat and digest what they had learned.
"Brother Lingxiao, since the sermon has ended, shall we return to the Sun Star in the Primordial World, or stay here in the Chaos and wait for three Yuanhui?" Changxi curled up against Lingxiao's right leg, shifted her delicate body, sat upright, and tilted her small face. Her bright eyes looked up at him, filled with reliance.
"No rush, I still have one thing to do." Lingxiao's gaze lingered briefly on Xihe's cold, pretty face before he reached out to gently pinch Changxi's lustrous cheek, a smile playing on his lips.
"What business does Dao Brother have? My sister and I shall naturally accompany you." Xihe spoke up quickly, her fair hand already gripping Lingxiao's wrist, her tone firm.
"I'm going too! I'm going too!" Changxi nodded hurriedly, clutching Lingxiao's arm tightly.
"Haha, naturally we shall go together. Without either of you, this matter could not be accomplished."
Lingxiao laughed aloud, helped the two women up slowly, and kept his arms around their slender waists, drawing sidelong glances from many of the great beings in the hall.
The sisters were just wondering what he meant when they saw Lingxiao release them, bow from a distance to the three thousand Innate Sacred Beings in the hall, and announce in a clear voice: "Fellow Daoists, I am Lingxiao, greetings to you all."
As his words fell, he instantly drew the attention of the entire hall.
The great beings looked over, their expressions varied—some curious, some puzzled—but all stood still, waiting to hear what he would say next.
Lingxiao's gaze swept across the hall before finally returning to Xihe and Changxi at his side. His eyes were filled with tenderness as he cupped his hands and announced again:
"I, along with my fellow Daoists Xihe and Changxi of the Lunar Yin, have found our hearts in accord and our paths aligned. We intend to become Dao companions and unite the paths of the Lunar Yin and the Sun Star."
"We have set the date for one Yuanhui from now. We shall hold a banquet at Lingxiao Palace on the Sun Star, and I humbly invite all fellow Daoists to spare the time to attend and join us in this celebration. I shall sweep the mats and await your arrival."
As his voice faded, both Xihe and Changxi were stunned, followed by a surge of overwhelming joy that flooded their hearts.
"Mm~"
The usually cold and dignified Xihe felt her jade cheeks flush with a deep crimson, the color even reaching the tips of her ears. Those phoenix eyes, which were usually as indifferent as a cold pool, were now brimming with tender affection and shimmering moisture.
She covered her mouth slightly to suppress the tremor in her throat, her long, slender fingertips trembling slightly as she gripped Lingxiao's left hand tightly. With their palms pressed together, their affection was boundless; even a thousand words could not express the lingering devotion that melted into the depths of her eyes.
