An enormous barrier appeared before him.
In an instant, the barrier expanded, swelling as though it were about to explode. This time, it was the centaurs' turn to retreat.
But Darren had already grabbed Harry and the others.

Harry and the others heard a series of explosions behind them. They looked at Darren in horror.
Their faces were filled with worry.
Darren hadn't really killed those centaurs, had he?
"No. It'll only give them some minor injuries, but it'll still teach them a lesson!"
Darren said softly.
At last, they found a quiet place to land.
Only then did Harry and Hermione notice that the robe on Darren's back had been soaked red with blood.
Harry wanted to ask, but his voice was dry and hoarse, and he could not get the words out. Darren seemed to notice his gaze and glanced at his own back.
A little embarrassed, he said, "It's nothing. It's all the centaurs' blood." Harry and Hermione did not believe him at all.

They remembered how, when the centaurs had been dealing with Umbridge, Darren had stood in front of them and shielded them beneath him.
Darren must have risked his life to reach them.
