The news that Darren Potter had not been expelled delighted the Hufflepuff girls.
I pretended to be happy too.
But by the next day, I was not so happy anymore.
Because Professor McGonagall said final exams were coming soon.

I really didn't want to take exams.
I thought I was doing fairly well in my studies, but I was still afraid of exams.
Besides, only half the term had passed. How had we suddenly skipped straight to exams?

I only pretended to be bad at things. In reality, I should have ranked among the top three Hufflepuff first-years.
Even in the entire House, I was near the top.
