Cain walked over to Porlyusica's side and stood still. Then, an intricate emerald-green magic circle lit up beneath his feet.
Seeing himself enveloped by the magic circle, Cain showed no panic and simply waited quietly.
A few minutes later, the magic circle vanished. Cain looked at Porlyusica, whose brows were tightly furrowed, and his heart sank.
No way, is my condition really that serious? But I don't feel unwell anywhere. I can eat, drink, sleep, and jump around just fine.
Could this be a final burst of vitality before death?
Just as Cain's thoughts began running wild, Porlyusica spoke. "Kid, do you feel uncomfortable anywhere?"
"Ah?" Seeing Porlyusica looking at him so seriously, Cain thought carefully for a moment. "Grandma Porlyusica, I don't feel uncomfortable anywhere."
"Fine. You two can get out now."
As Porlyusica began throwing them out, not only was Cain utterly confused, but even Makarov wore an incomprehensible expression.
"Porlyusica, is Cain's condition so severe that even you can't do anything about it?"
"No. He's in excellent health, without a single problem. I doubt even children in their teens are as healthy as he is."
Seeing that the two had misunderstood her, Porlyusica explained despite her growing impatience.
This left Makarov utterly bewildered. After all, Cain had escaped from the Magic Development Bureau.
As an experimental subject, Makarov simply could not believe that Cain had not undergone some kind of human experimentation.
That was precisely why he had brought Cain to Porlyusica for a physical examination. Yet now, Porlyusica was saying that Cain not only had no problems at all, but was also exceptionally robust.
Could it be that the Magic Development Bureau had not been conducting any evil research after all?
Seeing Makarov still looking unconvinced, Porlyusica, who had reached the limit of her patience, grabbed one of them in each hand and prepared to throw them out of her treehouse.
Makarov hurriedly voiced his doubts. After hearing his reasoning, Porlyusica stopped trying to chase them out.
Porlyusica took a syringe from a cabinet and said to Cain, "Kid, I need your blood to confirm this further."
"Okay, Grandma Porlyusica. Go ahead."
Cain had heard Makarov's words as well, and only then did he understand why Makarov had brought him to see Porlyusica. A warm current surged through his heart.
It was warm and comforting.
After drawing Cain's blood, Porlyusica carried out a series of incomprehensible operations on a machine nearby. Makarov and Cain quietly stood aside and waited for the results.
About half an hour later, Porlyusica left the machine and came over to them. "I conducted a thorough examination just now. This kid really has no problems at all. His body is in ridiculously good condition."
"Moreover, the magic power in his body is extremely strong, only slightly weaker than Laxus's was back then."
Porlyusica's words shocked Makarov. No one knew Laxus's condition better than he did.
When Laxus was young, he had inherited Makarov's immense magic power, but his body could not bear it, leaving him frail and sickly. Makarov had brought Laxus to Porlyusica before as well.
But Porlyusica had not had any particularly good solution. In the end, Makarov's son Ivan implanted a Dragon Crystal into Laxus's body.
Only then was the problem of Laxus's immense magic power overwhelming his body resolved.
Now, Porlyusica said Cain's magic power was only slightly weaker than Laxus's had been back then, yet Cain showed none of the symptoms of his body being unable to bear it.
Seeing the two frowning deeply, Cain could not help asking, "Could it have something to do with the magic I awakened?"
"Magic? You've already awakened magic?" Come to think of it, Makarov had never known Cain had awakened magic.
"Ah, didn't I tell you, Guild Master? I awakened Light Element Magic." Cain scratched his head. Had he not mentioned it? It seemed he really had never told the Guild Master.
A magic circle appeared in his hand, and a small ball of light floated above it.
"And I feel that after awakening my magic, my recovery speed improved greatly too." Cain then told them about his escape from the Magic Development Bureau and his journey on foot to Clover Town.
Ever since Cain cast his magic, Porlyusica felt that she did not dislike this brat quite as much anymore. Could this magic even heal the heart?
Porlyusica could not help saying, "Your magic might not be ordinary Light Element Magic."
Makarov asked curiously, "Hm? Why do you say that, Porlyusica? Did you discover something?"
Porlyusica turned to Makarov beside her and asked, "Didn't you feel anything when his magic appeared?"
"Now that you mention it, after that little ball of light appeared, I didn't feel as tense anymore."
"Yes. His magic has the effect of soothing the heart as well. I suspect it is Light Magic with a holy attribute. All right, since the kid has no physical problems, hurry up and leave."
Since there was nothing wrong with Cain's body, Makarov hurriedly took Cain out of the treehouse before Porlyusica could throw them out herself.
"Thank you for your trouble, Grandma Porlyusica."
Before leaving, Cain politely bade farewell to Porlyusica inside the treehouse.
"Hmph, humans really are annoying." Although Porlyusica said that, the slight upturn of her lips showed that she was actually in quite a good mood.
Two or three days had passed since they returned from Porlyusica's place, and Cain had finally finished reading that book.
Just as he planned to visit the library and look for books related to Holy Light Magic, Makarov came over.
Seeing Makarov's gloomy expression, Cain asked curiously, "Guild Master, what happened?"
Makarov nodded. "Cain, there are results regarding the Magic Development Bureau."
Upon hearing this, Cain wanted to ask about Ultear's whereabouts, but recalling the Guild Master's earlier expression, he asked worriedly, "Is the situation not good?"
Makarov did not beat around the bush. "After an investigation by the Magic Council, the Magic Development Bureau was indeed conducting some evil experiments."
"However, during the raid on the Magic Development Bureau, Director Brain detonated the entire facility. None of the children or researchers inside survived."
As he finished speaking, Makarov looked at Cain with some reluctance.
When Cain heard that none had survived, he froze in place. Did that mean Ultear was dead too?
H-how could this be? Why did Ultear die? Was it because of me, causing a butterfly effect? No, that can't be...
Seeing Cain's distraught state, Makarov felt awful as well. But he understood that what Cain needed most right now was to be alone and have some quiet.
When Cain came back to himself, he found that he was already in the dormitory. Lying on his bed, he recalled the time he had spent with Ultear.
Although they had not spent much time together, her figure had already been deeply etched into his heart.
