Everyone's eyes turned to him as he raised his wand and slowly drew the new recruit Wren's silvery memory thread from her mind.
In the memory scene unfolding in midair, they clearly saw her meeting with Aurors from the French Ministry of Magic, along with the moments when she passed along information.
"What's wrong with that?" Nightingale had keenly sensed something amiss. He knew Sagreles would never make an accusation without cause.
"Sloppy work. It looks like material from Obliviator Headquarters." Sagreles enlarged several key moments and slowed the playback.
Nightingale asked, "You mean someone tampered with her memories?"
Sagreles neither confirmed nor denied it.
Bird-of-Paradise asked, "What does that mean?"
"It means the memories we just saw were all carefully crafted by someone who wanted us to see them."
Red Kestrel asked, "So..."
"So, Albatross, do you have anything to say?"
Everyone turned their attention to the old man again. His face had gone pale, and cold sweat trickled down from his temples.
"I... I don't know what you're talking about!"
"You'll find out soon enough." Sagreles decisively cast Legilimency, his powerful magic brutally invading the old man's mind.
He soon found what he was looking for.
"Your Occlumency is pretty good..." he remarked fairly. "But unfortunately for you, you ran into me."
His magic was like a whirling blade, tearing through the old man's defenses almost instantly.
As the old man convulsed and foamed at the mouth, Sagreles forcibly extracted his memory threads, then unfurled them before everyone like a scroll. (This isn't meant to be suggestive! Don't get the wrong idea.)
