Background / History

The early Black Miasma Abyss is a bottomless chasm filled with demonic mist, dead cultivators' remains, shattered artifacts, and decayed remnant souls. A mountain-sized demonic silhouette, obscured by mist and bound in black chains, stands at its center. Its pressure reduces a Mid Astral Qi Realm cultivator to trembling submission 178 179.

Long before the present conflict, the Abyss invaded the Heaven-Abandoned Land. The Human Race initially resisted it, but the tide turned after the land's other races—and many humans—joined the Abyss against the Eternal Divine Dynasty 409.

For ten thousand years, the Eternal God Emperor has used his indestructible body to seal an Abyssal Rift beneath the imperial throne. His continued sacrifice restricts the Abyssal Will from sending power sufficient to instantly destroy the Eternal Divine Dynasty 638.

The Abyss functions as a chaotic hub linking the myriad heavens and worlds. Its passages allow Demonic Beasts and fallen experts to invade other worlds, while violent Abyss storms make travel through those routes perilous even for powerful cultivators 427.

The disappearance of the Cosmic Great Rift briefly disrupted the Abyss and forced it to withdraw from Blackstone Fortress. Once it stabilized, however, the disappearance of that cosmic barrier left the major worlds exposed to direct Abyssal invasion 594 616.

The Abyss grows by consuming living beings, starry worlds, and Heavenly Daos. Its accelerating expansion has become grave enough to threaten even the Origin Continent, whose investigators began seeking cooperation with the Eternal Divine Dynasty against it 618.

The Abyss's expansion ultimately consumed the Holy Spirit Realm's Heavenly Dao and contributed to the destruction of the Heaven Realm and Profound Realm. Its continued offensives have reached the Buddha Realm, the Heaven-Abandoned Land, and Origin Continent itself 637 656 667 693.

Although the Abyss and Insect Race are competing calamities that seek to consume one another's forces, they have repeatedly formed temporary battlefield alignments when confronting the Eternal Divine Dynasty and Li Xuancang 669 677 680.

Appearance & Manifestations

The Abyss does not present a single consistent environment. Its rifts and corrupted territories are associated with darkness, black mist, and oppressive demonic qi, while its interior can be dazzlingly colorful beneath visible sun, moon, and stars 179 425.

• Demonic miasma — Dense demonic qi can become nearly liquid and suppress or empower combatants within its territory 182 184.
• Abyssal rifts — Tears in space through which Demonic Beasts enter invaded worlds; some open and close as gateways for retreating forces 409 413.
• Abyss storms — Violent storms within the Abyss that can tear apart great experts and are avoided even by Abyssal Demonic Beasts 427.
• Dark Land expansion — Abyssal aura spreads like darkness across invaded territory, corroding a world's protective barrier and compressing living beings' space 525 526.
• Abyssal Mark — A black mark condensed by the Abyssal Will over prolific killers of Abyssal Demonic Beasts; it exposes its bearer whenever they enter the Abyss 556.
• World collapse — When a world's Heavenly Dao fails, the Abyssal Will can descend with vastly increased power, crushing its inhabitants and consuming the world itself 637.
• Scarlet vertical eye — An enormous scarlet eye has descended over battlefields to suppress and slow powerful opponents, enabling coordinated Abyssal attacks against them 648 669.
• Ancestral Artifact — Abyssal forces have deployed a pitch-black alms bowl capable of sealing an entire battlefield within an impenetrable, contracting barrier; it is identified as an Ancestral Artifact capable of threatening Eternal Realm experts 648. The bowl can act independently after being knocked away and cooperate with the Abyssal Will to suppress an entire realm 670 671.

Abilities & Influence

Corruption and Demon Ascension

Beings that fall into the Abyss are normally corrupted and assimilated. Fallen beings can undergo Demon Ascension, remaking their bodies and gaining power; the scale of slaughter and sacrifice determines the reward granted by the Abyss 423.

• Even experts beyond the Divine Repository Realm are recorded as unable to resist Abyssal corrosion 425.
• Fallen Ones may sacrifice their original worlds, then travel to other realms to pursue further power and profit 519.
• Sacrificing conquered land weakens that world's Heavenly Dao and earns rewards from the Abyss 525.
• Li Xuancang is an anomaly: he entered the Abyss without being corrupted, possibly because he is not from the Heaven-Abandoned Land 425.
• Once a world's Heavenly Dao collapses, the Abyss can devour it and accelerate the world's destruction, as seen in the Holy Spirit Realm 637.

Abyssal Will

The Abyssal Will is the supreme force that directs and rewards the Abyss's followers. When Great Sage Nanli invoked it, Demonic Beasts and Dharma Body Realm followers immediately prostrated themselves as though before their creator 525.

• It can forcibly open passages between worlds while cutting off or resisting a world's Heavenly Dao 525.
• It drives the expansion of Abyssal darkness and commands Demonic Beasts to defend threatened rifts 545.
• Demonic Beasts and fallen creatures gradually lose themselves to the Will, placing the Abyss above all else 562.
• The Will's presence can be resisted: Li Xuancang suppressed its influence through his blood and qi rather than kneeling with the other invaders 525.
• When it descends upon a collapsing world, its suppression can destroy the bodies and souls of Cave Heaven Realm cultivators and crack high-grade Sacred Artifacts 637.
• Li Xuancang, Tai Haotian, and Su Xinghai were only able to resist its direct suppression through exceptional blood qi, willpower, and devouring abilities; Li Xuancang ultimately escaped the Holy Spirit Realm through resurrection after being crushed 637.
• It can descend with the Alms Bowl to suppress a realm-scale phenomenon, as it did against the Buddha Realm's Buddhist radiance 670.
• It ordered the Imperial Capital assault to prevent the Eternal God Emperor from recovering and later invested additional power to oppose the Heaven-Abandoned Land's newly awakened Heavenly Dao 675 678.
• Li Xuancang's Blood Qi, reinforced by Buddhist light, forced the descending Will to retreat from the Buddha Realm; nevertheless, the Will remained capable of supporting several Heavenly Human Realm experts during the Heaven-Abandoned Land war 671 677.

Abyssal Mark

The Abyssal Mark is a punitive manifestation of the Will's attention, created after someone slays a sufficient number of Abyssal Demonic Beasts 556.

• A Marked One is rejected by the Abyss and cannot conceal their presence within it 556.
• Demonic Beasts are compelled to hunt Marked Ones because killing one earns the Abyssal Will's favor and rewards 556 589.
• The mark makes entering the Abyss exceptionally dangerous, as even Cave Heaven Realm Demonic Beasts may be drawn to the bearer 556 590.
• Su Xinghai's Devouring Heaven Physique is an exceptional countermeasure: he devoured his own Abyssal Mark and used it to increase his cultivation 601.
• Su Xinghai later used the Devouring Heaven Demon Art to consume and remove Li Xuancang's Abyssal Mark, allowing both men to enter the Abyss without immediately attracting its forces 622.

Interworld Invasion

The Abyss expands through passages connecting different worlds, deploying vast numbers of Demonic Beasts before committing stronger experts 427 525.

• It uses low-ranking Demonic Beasts to probe an invaded world's strength before escalating its assault 525.
• Its forces include native Abyssal Demonic Beasts, fallen humans, and beings from worlds that have already been sacrificed 411 519.
• Its offensives can become wars of attrition, forcing defenders to continually commit reinforcements while Demonic Beasts attack without rest 590.
• At Blackstone Fortress, the Abyss deployed seventeen Cave Heaven Realm experts against the Eternal Divine Dynasty's thirteen 604.
• After the Cosmic Great Rift vanished, the Abyss began attacking the Heaven Realm, Holy Spirit Realm, Profound Realm, Spirit Realm, Beast Realm, and other major worlds 616.
• Its forces can strategically delay direct confrontation with an unfavorable opponent, choosing instead to destroy weaker worlds and increase their overall strength 660.
• It later committed elite forces directly against the Eternal Divine Dynasty, including attacks on the Imperial Capital and the Heaven-Abandoned Land intended to prevent the Eternal God Emperor's recovery and eliminate the dynasty's strongest defenders 675 677.
• When Origin Continent's barrier was breached, the Abyss exploited Li Xuancang's restraint by Xuanyuan to send Demonic Beasts into the continent alongside the Insect Race 693.

Abyssal Armaments and Elite Forces

The Abyss possesses more than endless Demonic Beasts; it can field elite experts and artifacts capable of overwhelming major worlds 648 650.

• The Soul-Seizing Bell launches sound-wave attacks that severely injure the souls of ordinary soldiers and Cave Heaven Realm cultivators alike 647.
• The black Ancestral Artifact alms bowl can imprison entire armies and crush those trapped inside by steadily contracting its barrier 648.
• Abyssal forces have deployed multiple Late-stage Cave Heaven Realm experts against the Heaven Realm, including White Bone Demon Saint, Dao Wuji, and Heavenly Evil Old Man 648.
• The Abyss has also sent at least two Heavenly Human Realm experts against the Eternal Divine Dynasty, demonstrating that its known Cave Heaven Realm forces represent only part of its strength 649 650.
• The Alms Bowl can project a destructive beam, resist the World-Destroying Mill and Devouring Heaven Demon Art, and return to battle autonomously after being repelled 648 671.

• Abyssal Demonic Beasts — The Abyss's primary invading force; they emerge from rifts in overwhelming numbers and attack without fear of death 409 413.
• Fallen Ones — Humans or other beings corrupted by the Abyss who retain enough power to serve as infiltrators, traitors, or combatants 410 423.
• Counter-God Cult — A hostile faction long allied with the Abyss against the Eternal Divine Dynasty. Its White Bone Wasteland headquarters was annihilated by Li Xuancang and Su Xinghai 480 549 622.
• Great Sage Nanli — A Cave Heaven Realm Abyss leader who invoked the Abyssal Will and opened the passage into the Wild Continent 524 525.
• Zhang Xuanyang and Ye Qingyun — Former Human Race figures who sacrificed Youzhou, entered the Abyss, and gained Late-Stage Dharma Body Realm cultivation 524 525.
• Han Zhenyue — A former Human Race commander who fell into the Abyss, joined the Counter-God Cult, and completed Demon Ascension 604.

• Dao Wuji and Heavenly Evil Old Man — Late-stage Cave Heaven Realm Abyssal experts deployed alongside White Bone Demon Saint during the Heaven Realm campaign 648.

• Torches — Torchlight restrains Demonic Beasts and grants defenders periods of respite. The Eternal Torch can confront the Abyssal Will directly 542 545.
• Evil-Suppressing Demon-Binding Formation — Daoist formation that purifies demonic qi, weakens evil techniques, and slows demonic servants' recovery 184.
• Wild Continent Heavenly Dao — Awakened in response to invasion, clashing with the Abyssal Will and stopping its initial territorial expansion 525.
• Judgment Jade Disc — A high-grade Saint Artifact that can seal an Abyss passage and obliterate Demonic Beasts caught within its power 550.
• Rift destruction — Closing or destroying a rift can sever the Abyss's route of retreat and trap its invading forces outside its domain 545 606.
• Eternal God Emperor — The God Emperor has personally suppressed the primary Abyssal Rift beneath the Eternal Divine Dynasty's throne for ten thousand years, preventing the Abyssal Will from immediately overwhelming the Heaven-Abandoned Land 638.
• Eternal Divine Flame — Under the God Emperor's control, the Divine Flame can instantly annihilate large numbers of Abyssal Demonic Beasts and severely injure even a giant hand reaching from the Abyss 649.
• Devouring Heaven Physique — Su Xinghai can devour Abyssal Force and Abyssal Marks, making him unusually effective in the Abyss and against its manifestations 601 622.
• Heavenly Dao resistance — A world's Heavenly Dao can oppose the descending Abyssal Will, though this defense weakens or fails if the Abyss succeeds in consuming the world 616 637.
• Buddha Realm's Buddhist light — The Buddha Realm's transformation produces Buddhist radiance that suppresses Abyssal Demonic Beasts by roughly thirty percent. Combined with Li Xuancang's Blood Qi, it forced the descending Abyssal Will to retreat 670 671.
• New Heaven-Abandoned Land Heavenly Dao — The re-emergent Heavenly Dao can crush vast numbers of Abyssal Demonic Beasts and contend directly with the Abyssal Will, compelling the latter to commit more power to cover its forces' retreat 678.
• Primordial Sect and Origin Continent support — Origin Continent's factions and the Primordial Sect have begun supplying troops, experts, intelligence, and resources to contain Abyssal expansion alongside the Eternal Divine Dynasty 627 680 683.

Relationships

• Li Xuancang — A persistent enemy who can enter the Abyss without corruption, infiltrate its forces, and later becomes a Marked One after slaughtering its Demonic Beasts. Su Xinghai subsequently removes Li Xuancang's mark, enabling him to strike the Abyss more safely 425 427 556 622. Li Xuancang has since become capable of resisting the Abyssal Will directly and defeating several of its Heavenly Human Realm experts in battle 671 677 680.
• Su Xinghai — A major threat due to the Devouring Heaven Physique, which allows him to devour Abyssal energy and even consume Abyssal Marks 581 601 622. His growing devouring power caused the Abyss's elite forces to identify him as a future threat requiring elimination 670.
• Eternal Divine Dynasty — Its principal long-term opponent; the dynasty's Torches, Judgment Court, and military forces have resisted the Abyss for tens of thousands of years 409 601 638. The Abyss later escalated from strategic avoidance to direct assaults on the Imperial Capital and Heaven-Abandoned Land 675 677.
• Eternal God Emperor — The Abyss initially avoided an all-out assault on the Eternal Divine Dynasty in part because the God Emperor's potential retaliation could drag multiple Heavenly Human Realm experts into mutual destruction 638 660. It later specifically targeted him to interrupt his recovery and prevent him from becoming an even greater threat 675.
• Wild Continent — A world targeted for sacrifice after Great Sage Nanli opened an Abyssal passage into it 524 525.
• Heaven-Abandoned Land — A major world repeatedly invaded by the Abyss and partially preserved through the Eternal God Emperor's power and the Eternal Torch 480 601 638. The Abyss later launched a total war against it, but the emergence of a new Heavenly Dao created a renewed obstacle to its forces 677 678.
• Heaven Realm — A major world subjected to sustained Abyssal invasion despite its elite army and alliance with the Eternal Divine Dynasty 616 647 648. Its eventual destruction demonstrated that no major world could remain secure from the Abyssal threat 656.
• Holy Spirit Realm — A major world whose Heavenly Dao is consumed after prolonged Abyssal invasion, allowing the Abyssal Will to descend and devastate the realm 618 637.
• Buddha Realm — The Abyss attempted to halt its unexplained transformation, regarding its Buddhist radiance and realm-wide suppression as a serious threat 669 670.
• Origin Continent — Initially an observer of the Abyss's expansion, its factions increasingly view the Abyss as an existential threat and seek to cooperate with the Eternal Divine Dynasty 618 627. The Abyss has now begun directly invading it after a breach in its defensive barrier 693.
• Insect Race — A competing catastrophic force whose intervention disrupted an Abyssal encirclement in the Heaven Realm, although both powers later intensified their offensives across weaker worlds 651 660. Despite their mutual hostility, they temporarily cooperate when eliminating the Eternal Divine Dynasty or invading Origin Continent serves both sides' interests 677 680 693.
