History

Su Xinghai came from an ordinary, impoverished background and enlisted as a Body Tempering Realm recruit. He repeatedly fought at the front of battles without regard for his life, recording far more kills than other soldiers and displaying seemingly inexhaustible strength. His rapid rise to the Mid Blood Condensation Realm convinced Li Xuancang to personally nurture him. 290

His unusual strength came from a special physique, though its nature was initially unknown. After reaching the Astral Qi Realm, he could routinely fight stronger opponents; Li Xuancang believed he was born for the battlefield. 340 344 During the war against Prince Fu's forces and the Barbarians, Su Xinghai openly devoured enemies to replenish himself and accelerate his advancement. 373 375

This growth carried a severe cost. After forcing his way into the Mid Profound Connection Realm, the accumulated and conflicting energy in his Soul Sea triggered a devil's deviation. He attacked his own comrades until Li Xuancang suppressed him with soul power. Li Xuancang determined that Su Xinghai's rapid advancement, unstable foundation, and weak soul had allowed his killing instinct to overwhelm him. 374

As the world grew more dangerous, Su Xinghai later attempted a desperate breakthrough to the Divine Repository Realm so he could help protect Li Xuancang's family. The attempt failed, leaving him consumed by demonic corruption and eventually captured by the Prison Tiger Bureau. The Bureau considered him too dangerous to release and intended to execute him if the war turned against the Human Race. 426 437 439

Li Xuancang refused to abandon him. He forced the Bureau to hand Su Xinghai over, broke their seal, and immediately subdued him again when his bloodthirsty instinct erupted. Su Xinghai's consciousness was eventually restored with the Nine Heavens Ice Crystal, while the Rain Clan's High Priestess used Nine Heavens Frost to purge the mottled power in his body and Soul Sea. 440 472 477

The High Priestess identified his constitution as the legendary Devouring Heaven Physique. Su Xinghai chose to keep it despite its inherent danger, then continued advancing under Li Xuancang's protection and with access to powerful enemies and resources to devour. 477 510 568 575

After obtaining the Devouring Heaven Demon Art from a jade pendant, Su Xinghai gained a cultivation method uniquely suited to his physique and could finally use its power without the former constant fear of cultivation deviation. 560 571 Following his Cave Heaven Realm breakthrough, he was dispatched with Wei Tianfeng to reinforce Blackstone Fortress, where he fought multiple Cave Heaven Realm Demonic Beasts and used his Cave Heaven World as a devouring weapon. 578 580 581

Su Xinghai later campaigned in the Abyss, devouring numerous Demonic Beasts and two Cave Heaven Realm Demonic Beasts. He condensed an Abyssal Mark through the slaughter, but directly devoured it instead of suffering its corruption. 601 He and Li Xuancang were severely injured by the Abyss's mysterious giant hand; during their recovery, Su Xinghai used the Devouring Heaven Demon Art to consume the Origin-Eroding Baleful Mist thread by thread. 590 608

After prolonged fighting in the Abyss, Su Xinghai advanced to the Mid-Stage Cave Heaven Realm. He returned to report to Li Xuancang, who ordered him to deliver the World-Destroying Mill to Bai Meng at Azure Profound Fortress. 617 After the Spirit Realm campaign, Li Xuancang also handed five captured Cave Heaven Realm cultivators from Cloud City to Su Xinghai as nourishment. 633 When the Heaven Realm faced destruction, Su Xinghai entered it intending to devour its Heaven-and-Earth Origin and seek a Late-Stage Cave Heaven Realm breakthrough. 655

During the later battle at the Great Divide, Su Xinghai and Bai Meng served as the Eternal Divine Dynasty's principal defenders against the Abyss. Su Xinghai activated the Devouring Heaven Demon Art to consume Demonic Beasts and surrounding matter, then confronted two Late-Stage Cave Heaven Realm opponents without fear while he and Bai Meng helped hold back six such experts. 670

As preparations began for the journey to the Primordial Realm, Li Xuancang sought to rapidly raise Su Xinghai's strength by helping him devour the Scarlet Spirit King. 679 Li Xuancang subsequently entered seclusion with Su Xinghai and assisted him in refining Tuoba Wuzhu and Xuan Yuan, a Mid-Heavenly Human Realm cultivator and a Late-Heavenly Human Realm cultivator. Su Xinghai is remembered by his fellow soldiers as kind and normally considerate, making his sudden bouts of bloodthirsty madness especially alarming. 374 On the battlefield, however, he is fearless, aggressive, and willing to stake his life on rapid advancement when those under Li Xuancang's protection are threatened. 290 426

He is intensely loyal to Li Xuancang and remains respectful even after surpassing most of their companions in cultivation. His determination can become dangerous recklessness: he understands that devouring others may cause another deviation, but refuses to abandon the physique that lifted his family out of poverty. 477 511

His experiences in the Abyss further strengthened his aggressive and prideful nature. After being overwhelmed by the giant hand, he vowed to return to the Abyss and avenge the humiliation; he also regards the Insect Race as potential prey rather than an inherently frightening enemy. 608 617

Su Xinghai is fiercely protective of Li Xuancang's interests and can favor immediate, covert retaliation against enemies when open action is politically constrained.
