Attack from the Department of Extranormal Operations

For some time after arriving in this world, Zhang Tianran hadn't begun researching Kryptonian genes. Instead, he searched for the genes of some interesting alien lifeforms.

Just like the metahumans in Central City who had gained supernatural abilities through something akin to a particle accelerator explosion, these alien superhumans' genes held research value as well.

Zhang Tianran didn't immediately begin researching the alien genes he obtained. Instead, he stored them away like collectibles.

In truth, these things didn't interest Zhang Tianran all that much.

He was merely somewhat curious. After all, if he didn't find something to do while staying in this unfamiliar world, it would be terribly boring.

Thus, the Department of Extranormal Operations in this world noticed his trail.

Although a Speedster was indeed incredibly fast, traces would still be left behind. On top of that, Zhang Tianran had never concealed his actions, and every time he finished extracting genes, he left behind unconscious alien lifeforms.

After completing another gene extraction from an alien lifeform, Zhang Tianran was just about to leave when he ran straight into Supergirl.

"Finally... I caught you, you shameless gene thief." Kara was extremely excited at that moment.

The Department of Extranormal Operations had investigated this superpowered person who attacked aliens everywhere for a long time, and Supergirl had been dragged along on countless searches.

Unfortunately, Kara had arrived at top speed almost every time, yet she had still never made it in time.

"Nice to meet you, Kara Danvers. I don't seem to be harming this world, so could you watch your attitude?" Zhang Tianran said calmly as he casually put the genes he had collected into his bag.

Kara was enraged by Zhang Tianran's attitude and immediately moved to arrest him.

Unfortunately, Zhang Tianran wasn't a Speedster like The Flash. Before Kara could even get close, he had already darted aside.

With a Kryptonian's dynamic vision, she could catch Zhang Tianran's figure as he moved, but catching up to him was rather difficult.

Even Kara's Heat Vision was dodged one blast at a time by Zhang Tianran.

However, that was all. Completely defeating Supergirl would require a great deal of time.

Zhang Tianran didn't yet have any particularly effective offensive methods. His Vibrating Hand Blade still had difficulty against Supergirl's Bioelectric Field.

Although the situation had reached a stalemate, Zhang Tianran wasn't in a hurry to leave. As if he were toying with her, he dodged Supergirl's attacks while seeing whether he could get some blood, hair, or something else.

However, because of Krypton's Bioelectric Field, Zhang Tianran likewise failed to obtain Supergirl's genes...

Unless he got ruthless, obtaining Kryptonian genes would still be rather troublesome.

And Zhang Tianran didn't dare let Kara touch him. If he truly got careless and overdid it, an ordinary Kryptonian punch might seriously injure him.

Just as Kara grabbed at empty air again and froze in a daze, the corner of her eye suddenly caught Zhang Tianran yawning beside her.

Anger surged in her heart. She had never been toyed with like this before.

But just as Kara was preparing to attack again, a Quantum Field appeared out of thin air, trapping both her and Zhang Tianran within it.

"Super speed? A very unusual ability. What planet are you from?" A squad of human soldiers stood outside the Quantum Field, and the lead agent asked confidently.

"Earth, though not the Earth of this universe. I'm rather surprised the Department of Extranormal Operations thinks so highly of me." Zhang Tianran replied calmly.

For the time being, Zhang Tianran had no intention of becoming a villain. Although he didn't plan on becoming a superhero either, he didn't want to have any major conflict with these people.

At the very least, he couldn't kill anyone yet.

"All right, Earthling from another world. You are under arrest for stealing the genes of alien lifeforms!"

The lead agent didn't seem to believe Zhang Tianran's words very much.

The firearm in his hand immediately began glowing blue. "A weapon developed specifically for me? I'm quite curious whether this thing works. Go ahead, shoot..." A faint smile appeared at the corner of Zhang Tianran's mouth, and the next second, silvery-white lightning burst through the entire room.

The Quantum Field the Department of Extranormal Operations had placed its hopes on shattered in an instant, serving no purpose whatsoever.

At that moment, Kara could see Zhang Tianran's afterimages, but no matter how hard she tried, she had no way to stop any of his actions.

Fortunately, Zhang Tianran merely disarmed the agents and did nothing else.

"This gun is very well made, but its user is terrible." Zhang Tianran dismantled the firearm in a few quick motions and pocketed its internal energy core.

"We won't allow you to do whatever you want in this world." The agent lying on the ground and clutching his wrist spoke, seemingly completely unconcerned about his own life.

But at that moment, Kara stepped in front of Zhang Tianran, intending to protect those agents with her life.

"That's rather strange. I bear no ill will toward this world. I've even helped you solve quite a few problems, yet you seem to regard me as an enemy. May I ask why?" Zhang Tianran didn't move right away and instead spoke with an innocent expression.

"What are you planning to do with those alien genes?" Kara voiced her question.

"Research. They're just genes. You really are too stingy... Oh, right. I'll give you this Krolunian I just caught..." Zhang Tianran shook his head, looking deeply disappointed.

"Wait..." Kara hurriedly called out, but all she could see was Zhang Tianran's departing afterimage...

"The capture operation failed. He was too fast. I couldn't react at all..." Kara reported dejectedly to the Department of Extranormal Operations.

Zhang Tianran returned to the hotel where he was staying as though he had never left, completely unconcerned about the Department of Extranormal Operations agents who had been watching outside the hotel for a long time.

Since they hadn't placed any surveillance devices in his room or come to disturb him, Zhang Tianran naturally had no interest in interfering with their work.

After all, Zhang Tianran hadn't deliberately concealed himself. It was perfectly normal for people to notice him checking into a hotel and going out shopping.

It wasn't as though he wore a mask...

"Sure enough, the Kryptonians in this world are very weak. Still, this Bioelectric Field thing is quite good."

"Zero, I'm planning to research Krolunian genes. Are you interested?"

Krolunians were a type of alien lifeform. On the original Krypton, this species had also been used as supercomputers.

But unlike Zhang Tianran's artificial intelligence, Krolunians were genuine lifeforms. They merely possessed the ability to transform themselves into programs.

"Do you want me to have real life? According to available records, humans are generally very afraid of artificial intelligence evolving."

Zhang Tianran waited over ten seconds before Zero's voice came through the communicator. Clearly, for Zero, who possessed supercomputing capabilities, those ten-plus seconds were actually an extremely long time.

"Knowing how to hide yourself is already one of the signs of awakening self-will. It seems your growth has been quite good..." Zhang Tianran praised her with great satisfaction before finally answering Zero's question.

"As for whether you want to become a real lifeform, that's your own choice. As for humans fearing artificial intelligence evolving... you've watched too many movies."

Zhang Tianran wasn't worried about Zero's evolution at all. He even felt that Zero's evolution was somewhat slow, leaving her unable to assist him more effectively in certain situations.
