Background / History

Naori displayed exceptional precision in the academy’s kunai test, placing three throws in the exact center of the target with nearly identical spacing. Her clean, economical movements immediately marked her as a gifted Uchiha student 5.

After Mirai Uzumaki defeated and humiliated her in combat class, Naori began training late into the night, determined to beat him fairly rather than accept a pity victory. Her older sister Mikoto recognized both her pride and her tendency to push herself too hard 9. A month of additional training allowed Naori to challenge Mirai again using shuriken, taijutsu, and the Clone Technique, though she became frustrated after sensing he was still holding back 12.

Naori joined Mirai and Minato under Jiraiya as part of Team 7. She contributed Fire Release, shuriken precision, and later Lightning Release to the team’s coordinated attacks, including their bell test against Jiraiya and the northern-border bandit mission 33 41 42.

Her Three-Tomoe Sharingan awakened after Mirai survived an explosive-tag ambush that she believed might have killed him. Although she initially denied the implication, the awakening made her feelings for Mirai increasingly difficult to conceal 45. She subsequently trained with him to adapt Chidori for the Sharingan, then learned Chidori Stream during their stay in Uzushio Village 51 67 68.

During the Joint Chunin Exams, Naori served on a team with Mirai and Kushina. She used Genjutsu to incapacitate opposing Grass ninja and later defeated Konoha Jonin Zhipeng Aburame through a combination of Fire Release, Sharingan perception, and Chidori: Sharp Spear 115 120 128 129.

Naori later defeated Kushina in the tournament’s later rounds by using the Sharingan to read and counter her Shadow Clones, ultimately stopping Kushina with Chidori: Sharp Spear before the attack could injure her 141. She then fought Mirai seriously in the final stage, but his large-scale Water Release deprived her of an effective Fire Release environment, disrupted her Lightning Release, and exhausted her chakra before he restrained her with Adamantine Sealing Chains 141 142. Despite the loss, she was promoted to Chunin alongside Mirai, Kushina, Minato, and Killer B 143.

Following the exams, Naori continued refining the shape transformation of her Fire Release. She later became an official member of Mirai’s Future Squad with Kushina and Minato, participating in its B-rank escort mission toward the Land of Lightning 154 158. During the squad’s covert entry into Kumogakure, she identified the risk posed by their Konoha forehead protectors, helped disguise herself, and traveled through Minato’s Flying Thunder God technique despite suffering spatial-turbulence nausea 161.

When Mirai brought the young Two-Tails jinchūriki Yugito back from Kumogakure, Naori reassured the frightened child that she would not be treated as a monster and offered her a home 168. Naori later joined Future Squad on a mission through the Land of Rain to Iwagakure. She watched cautiously as Mirai recruited Yakushi Nonō, helped prepare for a confrontation with former Root members, and accompanied the group to its meetings with Jiraiya and Ōnoki 190 191 193 194.

At Naori’s coming-of-age ceremony, Mirai gave her a crystal pendant containing three powerful emergency attacks. She then confronted him about his relationship with Mikoto. After Mirai admitted that he loved both sisters, Naori accepted their relationship on the condition that he spend the night watching the moon with her 209 210 211. Their bond subsequently became more openly affectionate. Mirai visited her parents, who welcomed him, while Naori knowingly gave him and Mikoto time alone 214 215 218 220.

Later, Naori undertook a solo diplomatic mission to Takigakure as a Jonin. On her return, she recognized inconsistencies in an apparent visit from Mirai and exposed Black and White Zetsu’s impersonation. Madara Uchiha nevertheless captured her near the Mountain Graveyard, suppressed her chakra, and held her under Genjutsu 226 227. Mirai tracked the Flying Thunder God mark he had placed on her and came to her rescue. Madara and Black Zetsu restrained Naori and forced her to watch the ensuing battle, hoping that the apparent loss of Mirai would awaken her eyes further 230 231 232.

When Madara’s attack appeared to kill Mirai, Naori awakened the Mangekyō Sharingan, escaped Black Zetsu’s restraint, and attacked him 235. After Mirai returned to her, she learned that her new Kamui abilities caused painful eye strain and risked eventual blindness. She refused to obtain an Eternal Mangekyō by taking Mikoto’s eyes; Mirai instead found that energy from his God Tree could ease her symptoms 237 238. Back in Konoha, she and Mirai tested both eyes’ abilities and her Kamui Dimension 241 242.

Appearance

Naori is a tall Uchiha girl with long, straight black hair and refined features described as porcelain-doll-like. Her usual expression is cold and composed, though she visibly blushes when embarrassed or praised 5 24 129.

  • Long, straight black hair.
  • Initially has a childlike face; the last of her baby fat is gone by the later stages of the story 84.
  • Reaches approximately 1.65 meters in height 24 67.
  • Possesses scarlet Three-Tomoe Sharingan eyes when activated 45.
  • Maintains an aloof expression even after winning a difficult match 129.
  • Her increasingly mature appearance is noted after the time passage preceding the Land of Rain mission 84.
  • Wears a pale blue, silver-patterned kimono with her hair arranged in a bun for her coming-of-age ceremony 209.
  • Her Mangekyō Sharingan has a three-bladed, petal-like pinwheel pattern 238 241.

Personality

Naori is stubborn, proud, and intensely self-demanding. She dislikes being pitied or deliberately allowed to win, preferring an honest defeat to a hollow victory. Her response to losing to Mirai is not resentment alone, but sustained training intended to surpass him fairly 9 12.

Beneath her cold demeanor, she is sensitive and easily flustered. Mikoto notices that Naori has become gentler after her time in Uzushio, while Mirai identifies her habit of carrying burdens alone and struggling to express what matters to her 69 70. She often dismisses her feelings for Mirai as a desire to become stronger, despite repeatedly seeking out their training sessions 67 68.

In battle, Naori is controlled and efficient. She is willing to use humiliation and fear as weapons when she believes an opponent deserves it, such as forcing a Grass ninja to dance under Genjutsu after Mirai’s conflict with the Grass team 128 129.

Naori is also observant and practical outside combat. During Future Squad’s covert operation, she immediately recognized that their Konoha forehead protectors would compromise their infiltration and prompted the group to conceal their identities 161. Although normally restrained, she is quietly protective of Mirai and remains confident in his ability to return safely from danger 165.

Her reserve increasingly gives way to directness with those she trusts. She confronts Mirai about Mikoto, explains how important her sister is to her, and asks Mirai to give her time and attention rather than concealing her wishes 210 211 214. Her refusal to sacrifice Mikoto’s eyes to preserve her own sight further demonstrates her loyalty to her sister 238. Even a convincing impersonation of Mirai cannot overcome her attention to his habits and the circumstances around her 227.

Abilities & Skills

Three-Tomoe Sharingan

Naori awakened her Three-Tomoe Sharingan during the northern-border incident. It greatly improves her chakra control, visual perception, copying ability, and Genjutsu effectiveness 45 50 76.

  • Tracks high-speed movement well enough to support Chidori’s charging attacks 51.
  • Perceives chakra traces clearly, allowing her to detect Aburame insects attempting to ambush her underground 129.
  • Reads the movements and openings of multiple Shadow Clones at once, enabling her to dismantle Kushina’s six-body assault with minimal movement 141.
  • Copies Fire Release techniques from fellow Uchiha clan members 76.
  • Activates it to resist Orochimaru’s killing intent during the Chunin Exams 112.
  • Her Sharingan Genjutsu cannot effectively control Mirai because the Nine-Tails’ chakra disrupts the illusion 142.
  • Its perception alone cannot expose White Zetsu’s impersonation of Mirai, because White Zetsu can mimic his chakra fluctuations 227.

Mangekyō Sharingan and Kamui

Naori awakened the Mangekyō Sharingan after believing Mirai had been killed in his battle with Madara. Both eyes possess Kamui, giving her access to spatial warping and the Kamui Dimension 235 238.

  • Left eye: long-range Kamui — Warps a target within her field of vision into the Kamui Dimension. Naori says it can affect objects, Ninjutsu, and energy; a test on a wooden dummy twists it apart 238 241.
  • Right eye: close-range Kamui — Teleports targets she touches or approaches closely. It can shift part or all of her body into the Kamui Dimension so that attacks pass through her; its intangibility can last up to five minutes 238 241.
  • Can transport another person into the vast, gray Kamui Dimension, as demonstrated with Mirai 241 242.
  • Using Kamui causes severe eye pain and carries the Mangekyō’s risk of progressive blindness. Mirai’s God Tree energy eases her symptoms, but continued treatment is needed after use 238 242.

Fire Release

Naori’s Fire Release is a major component of her offensive style and works effectively alongside Minato’s Wind Release 33 65.

  • Fire Release: Great Fireball Technique — Launches a large fireball; its power grows significantly from her academy-era usage 33.
  • Fire Release: Majestic Destroyer Flame — Creates a wide sea of flames capable of burning through an Aburame insect swarm 50 129.
  • Fire Release: Great Fire Dragon Technique — Produces fire dragons that sweep low across the battlefield and destroy underground insect ambushes 129.
  • Fire Release: Dragon Flame Technique — A powerful offensive Fire Release used to open her final-stage battle against Mirai 141.
  • Continues practicing Fire Release shape transformation, forming flames into increasingly controlled shapes 154.
  • Fire Release: Phoenix Sage Fire Technique — Fires multiple small fireballs as part of a combination learned from a clan scroll 50.

Lightning Release

Naori’s Lightning Release developed from Earth Walk into high-speed Chidori variants, with the Sharingan providing the visual support needed for safe use 38 51.

  • Lightning Release: Earth Walk — Conducts lightning chakra through the ground in close combat 38.
  • Chidori — A high-speed, high-piercing thrust refined jointly with Mirai 51.
    • Can serve as a combat trump card.
    • Initially consumes enough chakra that Naori can only use it about three times consecutively 51.
    • Her Chidori can directly contend with Mirai’s Rasengan, though the clash heavily damages the arena and rapidly drains her chakra 142.
  • Chidori Stream — Chidori shape transformation mastered through nightly training in Uzushio 67 68.
    • Can form a lightning sword, cover her body in waves of lightning, or fire scattered lightning needles outward 76.
  • Chidori: Sharp Spear — Forms lightning into a spear-like extension; Naori uses it to pierce and electrocute Zhipeng Aburame’s arm, forcing his surrender 129.
    • Uses the technique with enough precision to stop Kushina’s attack just short of her legs, forcing Kushina to concede 141.

Genjutsu

Naori supplements direct combat with Sharingan-based illusions designed to disrupt, paralyze, or psychologically overwhelm opponents 76.

  • Genjutsu: Sharingan — Places targets under an illusion through eye contact 76.
  • Demonic Illusion: Shackling Stakes Technique — Inflicts the sensation of being pierced by iron stakes, paralyzing the target’s movements 76.
  • Demonic Illusion: Will-o’-the-Wisp — Makes targets feel illusory burning pain, disrupting their judgment in fast combat 76.
  • Uses a Genjutsu to terrify a Grass kunoichi into collapsing in fear 120.
  • Forces a Grass ninja to dance uncontrollably for three minutes during the Chunin Exams 128 129.

Taijutsu, Kunai, and Shuriken

Naori has strong fundamentals in close combat and projectile use.

  • Achieved three consecutive bullseyes in a kunai test 5.
  • Uses shuriken and wooden kunai together to pressure opponents during academy sparring 12.
  • Throws three shuriken in a triangular formation to restrict Jiraiya’s escape routes 33.
  • Uses the Clone Technique to create three decoys during combat 12.
  • Defeats several of Kushina’s Shadow Clones through precise palm strikes, kicks, and Sharingan-guided evasion 141.

Equipment

  • Chakra-sealed crystal pendant — A coming-of-age gift from Mirai. Injecting her chakra activates a stored attack of roughly Tailed Beast Ball-level power; the pendant can be used three times before it shatters 210.

Relationships

  • Mikoto Uchiha — Older sister. Mikoto worries over Naori’s late-night training, understands her pride, and notices her growing feelings for Mirai 9 69 70. After beginning a relationship with Mirai, Mikoto tells him that he must win Naori over before pursuing his stated wish to marry both sisters 136. Naori credits Mikoto with caring for her when their parents were absent, accepts Mikoto’s relationship with Mirai, and refuses to take her eyes to cure the effects of her own Mangekyō 211 218 238.
  • Mirai Uzumaki — Teammate, former academy rival, and Chidori training partner. Naori’s Sharingan awakens when she fears for his life; they later grow closer through nightly training and share a first kiss in Uzushio 45 51 67 68. She fights him seriously in the Chunin Exam final, and although he defeats her, his care for her afterward leaves her embarrassed rather than resentful 141 142 143. Their relationship becomes openly romantic after he acknowledges his feelings for her and Mikoto. Mirai rescues her from Madara, helps her understand Kamui, and transfers God Tree energy to relieve its strain on her eyes 211 214 215 230 237 238 241 242.
  • Minato Namikaze — Team 7 and Future Squad teammate. They coordinate Fire and Wind Release attacks and maintain mutual respect as fellow shinobi 33 65 129. Minato considers Naori one of the few Chunin Exam contestants who could present him with a genuinely uncertain match 115.
  • Kushina Uzumaki — Teammate and romantic rival for Mirai’s attention. Kushina has repeatedly lost direct challenges against Naori, while the two still cooperate during missions and the Chunin Exams 46 115 120. Naori defeats Kushina in the tournament but deliberately stops Chidori: Sharp Spear short of seriously injuring her 141. Their rivalry gradually becomes a more functional partnership as both remain close to Mirai 91 158 161. Kushina later encourages Mirai to spend time with Naori and anxiously welcomes Naori home after Madara’s abduction 213 239 241.
  • Jiraiya — Jonin instructor. He teaches Naori Lightning Release, observes her development, and warns her not to use incomplete Chidori recklessly 38 51.
  • Future Squad — Naori formally joins Mirai, Kushina, and Minato in the Chunin-led squad established by Mirai. She serves as its quiet, reliable Uchiha combatant and contributes practical judgment during its early covert operations 158 161. She later accompanies the squad on its journey through the Land of Rain to Iwagakure 190 193 194.
  • Yugito — A young jinchūriki whom Mirai brings from Kumogakure. Naori reassures Yugito that she will not be called a monster and offers her a place to live 168.
  • Naori’s parents — Her mother and father welcome Mirai into their home. Her mother recalls how often the formerly solitary Naori began talking about him, while her father regards him as a suitable match 218.
